We just got 8th style at our arcade and I am in love with IIDX. I can pass anything under 4 stars on Light 7. I think my best score yesterday was a B on War Game.

So, I got an awesome deal on a set of Beatmania games and 2 controllers. The games I recieved were 1st disc and an append disc (1st and 2nd mix I guess?) 3rd mix, 4th mix, and Gottamix. Anyway, I figured out that you have to put in the first disc and switch out to the others. Thing is, when I try to switch the screen just says it's the wrong disc and to insert a disc. It does this for all the mixes! I'm using a modded ps2 to play my games, it plays all my other import stuff. Any idea where I'm going wrong?

That has something to do with modded playstations and their crankiness about wanting to append/swap discs. My old PSX wouldn't append (it just spun and did nothing), but the PS1 I got would append. Try a PS1 instead of a PS2.

Ok, so here's my problem. I've always been an avid DDR player, but Spring Break, I injured myself which led to surgery and me being crippled for the entire summer. This means I can't play DDR till school starts up again. I remember playing this once in the Arcade, and I love it from first sight. I'm ready to buy a Controller and 7th Style (due to the amount of DDR songs on it), but I have a question that my parents won't let me forget: Is it really worth the ~$175?

It is, especially if you like music. I'd say also go for 6th, if you have the money. There are a lot of DDR songs (more specifically from UM 2) like the R trilogy (3, 5, 10K), route 80's (W/O the BPM doubling spurts), 19 November, VJ Army, Something Wonderful, Love is Dreaminess, fly through the night, and G2. Beware as some of these songs are hard (G2 especially.)

It's not Beatmania IIDX, pal, its Beatmania. Just Beatmania. I don't see a "IIDX" anywhere in "Beatmania". I see an "i", the only common letter, and only one of them. It IS NOT BEATMANIA IIDX, its BEATMANIA. Get your facts straight. I don't care if it has 7 keys play, that doesn't make it Beatmania IIDX. If DDR had 7 panel play, that wouldn't make it Beatmania IIDX. If Guitar Freaks had 7 button play, that wouldn't make it Beatmania IIDX. If Pong had 7 joystick play, that wouldn't make it Beatmania IIDX. If my DVD player remote had 7 buttons, that wouldn't make it Beatmania IIDX. If my oven had 7 burners, that would not make it Beatmania IIDX. In short, even though it has 7 key play, that doesn't make it Beatmania IIDX. It may have Beatmania IIDX songs (and DDR did too), but its not Beatmania IIDX. Certainly not with the scoring system the game seems to have (I've heard nasty things about the ease of it on DDR:UK and VJ Army).

Anyways, I am seriously looking forward to the Beatmania US release. This will be another shot at the series in the USA (anyone remember HipHopMania in the arcades?), and hopefully Konami won't blow it. I'm certainly not hoping for songs like War Game, No Doubt Get Loud, Schlagwerk, and Injection of Love due to lyrical content, but I'd like to see some new Denjin J/Strong Jaeger songs (yeah, I know about JAEGER FINAL ATTACK!! in 9th), and maybe another TaQ trance song, cuz Traces rocks. Looks like everyone with half-decent timing will be LISU now E10.gif Matters not to me, I am looking forward to it, and hopefully a PAL release in the future for the European guys across the pond. I know some of the guys that hang around the DDR:UK Beatmania Games/Popn Music forum and live in the UK really would like another Beatmania.

I see IIDX songs. I see 9th style interface. I see 7 little stars lined up. It's IIDX for all intensive purposes.

Well fine, bitch at the name, may as well. Everyone's already complaining about the nerfed star ratings, the lax gradings, the uber-easy timings, the n00b-easy licenced songs, the scrawny songlist, which is real good, considering they've played the game first hand, and aren't making asinine comments based off an early build and heresay.

...wait a minute....

Alright I've had this urge for beatmania on and off and this time I think I want to get it. So my question is which deal should I get a Lik Sang one where it includes: the IIDX 9th style and the konami IIDX control. Or get a pre owned version of 3rd Style IIDX and the IIDX control from Play Asia.

Is this a joke?

If 7 Keys mode doesn't make IIDX IIDX... what does? Putting "IIDX" in the title? Come on.

The E3 build's ratings, scoring system, etc., were all for the E3 version only. The final game will be much different - I'm guessing that they'll end up being the same as in the import versions.

Beatmania = released first. 5 keys.
Beatmania II = released second. 7 keys. Opposite-side turntables on left and right side.
Beatmania IIDX = an upgraded version of Beatmania II (which was eventually discontinued in favor of Beatmania IIDX), with a fancier cabinet, a seven-speaker setup, and a bass shaker platform.
Beatmania III = released third. 5 keys and a pedal.

It's not "eye eye dee ecks," it's "two deluxe." IIDX has seven keys, Beatmania has five. So this release is a combination of Beatmania and Beatmania IIDX, despite its name (which was chosen for simplicity). Get your facts straight before you go off on a rant and make yourself look like an idiot.

Europe's getting Beatmania too! Well, again... Beatmania got a PSone release there that was really hard, I understand.

Why 9th Style interface and STARS!? They dropped the bloody stars ages ago (6 whole AC styles, counting the soon release of Happy Sky) for neater looking shapes (at least IMO). I hope 5 Key play can choose between columns or on-the-lines for the upper row. And I hope the controller I bought with my first 3 import versions (a KOC) will work with the US release, but I haven't heard anything about that.

The release will have me sold with: One More Lovely, 1st Samurai, and AA.
