Petitioning a machine

Hey everyone, I plan to petition a theatre owner in a nearby town to get a DDR machine in the arcade in his theatre. I believe that he will go for the idea from what I've seen from him the past, but I'm not sure what the best approach would be. I already have a business card of a small company that sells the machines, but I need some good overall information about the game. Things like financial statistics (income, costs, maintenance, etc), effects on health, and things like that would be nice.

I'd say he'll go for the idea though, my two main points would be the many many people it would eventually bring into his theatre, and thus, watch movies, and become extremely thirsty/exhausted and buy lots of stuff from the lobby

I seriously dont think that a machine in a theater would be a good idea...

Cause first you have to buy a ticket to even go to the Lobby and then theres only noobs...

Generally machines in movie theater arcades get trashed pretty badly. People set drinks down on them and the drinks almost inevitably get knocked over. There was a machine in New Orleans a while back that short circuited because some jackass managed to spill his Coke into the machine.

But if you want to give it a shot...

First off, do you have to pay to get into the lobby? Some theaters make you pay to even go inside, and I don't think many people would pay $6-7 just to get in and play. If the arcade is freely accessible, though, you might want to tell him that DDR machines usually make the most money in an arcade (On an average weekend night, I'd say my local arcade gets just as much money in the DDR machine as the whole rest of the arcade). If he were really vindictive he could do like one of the casinos here and not unlock anything on the machine and set the price to a dollar. That way, any good players who wanted more difficult songs would sink a ton of money just unlocking everything.

I would say it would be a pretty good idea. Im guessing it would get thrashed though. And many of the little kids that go to movies will always be all over it and it will be hard to get some good people to actually play.
Would be a better idea to try like a small arcade like in a wal mart but i would try anyways for the theatre.

Could potentially cause noise problems, depending how insulated the theater is. A person stomping around on a heavy song can create a lot of noise, and if your theater isn't accoustically dampened, it could make quite a racket.

Depends where it is inside...there are noise levels...it'll take a beating...lots of maitenence and stuff.....if there's just an arcade near you, that'd be a better place..

Thanks for all the posts, a whole lot of good points that I didn't consider were brought up. You do have to pay to get into the lobby, so that's a negative. I happen to work in a Wal-Mart near me, but I think the noise thing would *really* become a problem, the old folks might raise hell

I think I'll give it a shot anyway, despite the low odds. I know the manager loves to spend money on stuff.

Edit: And unfortunately, there isn't an arcade around me for about 60 miles. Pretty sad little area I live in.

I can imagine the movie theatre idea only if your theatre has something like mine. Ours have a mini arcade called the Starcade. A couple of movie theatres in town have DDR in the Starcade.

DDR in theatres? Not bad idea, but i go there to see a movie, and i'm all filled up from a snack.

theres a ddr extreme machine in a movie theater near me, and its been there for about 1 year. Its in the best condition of any machine ive played on, and noobs get away asap if they see a good person playing. from what I see, there is no noise problem, and the snack bar sure gets lots of business!
