When you first started playing DDR, did it take time to learn to read heavy arrows, or did it just sorta click? Like, i was thinking about trying DDR so i was at the mall one day watching people play and all of a sudden it just clicked on how to read the arrows and i could read the arrows on heavy. Of course it took about a week of playing every day to get my feet where they needed to go. so my did this happen to anyone else?

It sort of clicked, it took me a while to master heavy and learn the steps, but I kept on practicing.

Props to you on learning so fast, not many people can do that, good job thumb.gif

i remember the first song i ever did was la copa loca on light, and i was really good i didnt need anyone to explain how to play it. If you ask me, it's a relatively easy game to play. Plain and simple.

It did for me. But reading arrows is easy as long as you know the rythmn and the sound it makes when you step on the arrows at the right time.

The first time I tried that song was when I first started doing heavy songs. My cousin had a copy of Konamix, and we tried the song and it sucked...hard. I did it on 1.5x recently and that wasn't too bad.

orion .78 ameuro is on of the first songs i learned. its wasnt that hard for me cause i started out with no speed multipliers or solo or anything so reading dense arrows was never a problem.

I had to play with a controller for maybe 2 weeks straight before i could read them. Actually learning to move my feet that quick is another story.

Heh...Orion .78 Ameuro on x1...I'm the only person locally here who can do that. Everyone else does it on x2 or x3 (mostly x3). Of course, for all my ability to do that on x1, Bag utterly terrifies me when I try to read it on x1.

As for the clicking in your head of how to read arrows, that's about the way things worked for me. I have a gift for pattern recognition in general, so it helps a lot for me. There are still a few sets of note patterns that my brain will lock up on...but just as logic would dictate...if you play something enough times, you're going to start to notice things about it that you might have taken for granted before...so yes, keep up your practice and everything will fall into its right place. I really don't read individual arrows too much anymore. I have all the common step sequences (butterfly steps and its variations, crossovers etc) memorized so I read more like phrases of arrows. However, I'm good at individual arrow reading if I have to anyway.

I love your sig.

Reading the arrows, a mi, was pretty much reading sheet music, so it came to me pretty fast.

I'm on this boat right here. The only difference is that I went to standard mode in a day, to heavy the next day, to getting AA's after another month and to actual dancing on light in three more months. Going to heavy dancing took one more month. Total learning time: four months in a row.

Currently starting this process all over for double play while skipping two controllers.

It just comes with playing easy songs first. Im sure you noticed, but heavy songs many times have steps that you would find in basic songs, except that they are linked together, or put off beat.

Doing Boom Boom Dollar on basic 1000 times on basic like I did helps eventually ;D

I remember my very first heavy(expert) song on DDR. It was PYFIM on the old school DDRUSA. I had been playing on standard for a while, and after watching the local guys play expert, I decided to give it a shot. I was relatively young at that time (I think 11 or 12) and it took me a few tries, but I eventually got the hang of reading the longer strings of notes.

I took a break for about a year after that and am currently working on passing max300 heavy beerchug.gif

I sorta disagree as I've played for 1 year now and can do a few 10's, however 2 other kids from my school can already do 8's and 9's in 2 months of ever playing. Maybe I just suck, or progress slower.

Anywayz, my skillz never really clicked although I'm real good at it now.
