I've noticed that on the Japanese (PAL) version of DDRExtreme, there are FAR more songs than there are on the U.S.A. (NSTC) version both being for PS2. Correct me if I'm wrong though. On our USA Extremes do we have Healing Vision, MAX. (period), Witch Doctor, Bag, Or Paranoia Survivor Max? No I don't THINK we do. Only in the arcades. However, the Japanese version is far more arcade based and has a wider variety of Challenge courses, Nonstop Courses, Songs, and even dancing characters. I'm sorry to 8!+C# about it and whine like a two year old, but I believe this is very unfair. Why does our version have less songs than the Japenese version? Is this fair?

First up, Japan uses NTSC, not PAL.

Second, you'll want to check out the Extreme thread where you'll see that lots of people feel the same way as you while lots of others will readily counter with "But this isn't Japan!"

The games are really two very different beasts, so the difference in song totals is neither fair nor unfair. It just is. It is, however, unfortunate that Konami decided to use the Extreme moniker for both the JP and US releases. Had they named them differently, they could have avoided hundreds of posts on this matter.

If you want those songs so bad, then buy the Japanese Extreme, but I agree, it is a little unfair that they get all those good songs, and we get stuck with Make it Better disgust.gif

Yes, it's not fair.

But it can't be changed either.

Your options are to get a modded ps2 (something I don't want to do) and get the jap version, or live with the US version.

The good news is the Ultramixes - the xbox games - have the more songs than any ps2 mix when you add in the downloadable content. Ultramix3 will start with 65 in game songs, 60 downloadable songs, with assuming about 6 more download packages over the course of a year (that's a total guess though), for 30 more downloads... for a grand total of 155 songs in a single mix.

Pretty sweet, eh?

One day I'll mod my ps2. I'm just loathe to do it soley for DDR.

It's how they make money. laugh.gif

Japan released us DDR MAX, MAX2, and extreme for PS2, so be happy for that. disturb.gif

Konami wants us to buy from THEM, so they only release a few games.
Someday, they'll release DrumMania or BeatMania, etc. but not Extreme, because we already have Extreme here.

The only reason that the Japanese has more of what we have is that, there is a high population of people playing these types of video games than in the U.S. I mean think about, if you were to create a music game, wouldn't you give more of what it is here than over there.

I see where you're coming from, but no. I would most definitely make the copies identical to the original, but I would have the game read in Japanese for Japs and read English for Americans.

I always thought america used NTSC and Japan/Europe PAL. Mod your ps2. I know a few ways and a google search can return more ways.

Japan uses NTSC, but in a differant way, that why you still need a mod.

The simply answer is that Extreme JP is based off the arcade extreme, the US version is konami's next cycle in home DDR releases to coincide with fesitval Jp and fusion PAL, its not connected to any arcade in anyway, unless its a bootleg US extreme.

Wow, no. Japan's NTSC is the same as NTSC in the US. The reason you need a mod is because of the use of region locking for PS2 games. It has nothing to do with the display standard.
