I have seen the Fry's Electronics store in Fremont carry a few RO metal pads, but that was right before Christmas 04. They retailed $200. Don't know if they have them anymore. |

My local Fry's also sells some old model RO metal pads, but they looked pretty beat up. _________________

My local Fry's carries metal pads as well, TX-1000s or something very similar to those IIRC. They used to have on out of the box on display so you could see what it looked like, but not anymore. They still sell 'em, though. There's a stack of them sitting near the DDR demo area. $200 a piece when I saw them, I think. Fry's online store, Outpost.com, also sells them. |

Those aren't official RO pads. |

Why?
If you want one, you'll probably pay the same amount in gas to drive out and pick it up that you will for shipping. _________________

Fry's is only 20 miles from my home. I have a diesel bug, I get 42 miles to the gallon. Gas costs 2.66$ per galon. So I am spending rougly 2.66$ to
travel to Fry's and back.
Washington State Tax. 8.8%. Roughly 17.60$ on a 200$ afterburner.
Total: 20.26$
Having my afterburner shipped to my home... costs 48.79$. No tax charges.
Savings of buying it in a store vs shipping: 28.53$
But, I am not sure Frys would carry the afterburner. So I'm having it shipped anyway... I don't trust Frys very much.... plus you don't get the 90 day extended warranty if you buy it from Frys. |

Wow, apparently I'm wrong. Apparently Fry's only sells crappy or old metal pads, so it's not worth my time I suppose.
How long is their warranty anyways? _________________

From what I've seen, Fry's probably wouldn't carry the Afterburner. They have their own line of dance pads they sell, which are just more expensive rebrands of someone else's pads. They have 3 soft pads of varying quality under a label called "HVG2" and the metal pad is made by Cyphergames, and that's it. They don't sell RedOctane pads at all. Heck, I don't even recall them having the DDR bundles with the official Konami soft pad. |

The metal pads they sell come with the label "BlueSpark," which I think is a TX-1000. I just read the thread, and they get a lot of mixed reviews. People love or absolutely hate them. Overall consensus was that if you're going to buy one, be prepared to buy replacement control boxes and arrows, and to do some minor modifications.
I think I'm going to go ahead and buy one, since my friend's heading to Portland and offered to pick one up tax-free. I'll tell you all how it is. |

In Spokane at the northtown mall, software etc. (associated to GameStop) sell their new metal pads for about 80 bucks (includes a finger pad too).
Also, check www.lik-sang.com or www.ddrgame.com for some deals.
