Sorry about the original post, I didn't notice this forum until after I posted and couldn't delete it.

I've been playing DDR for about two weeks now, and about 4 or 5 days ago my MadCatz flat pad started presenting problems (the down arrow stopped working at random times), so I returned it for a number of other pads, each of which have been unresponsive by 1/8 of a second, throwing off all my steps.

I've tried:
- Intec Wireless Pad
- Madcatz Beatpad Pro (has split input for PS2 and Xbox)
- Madcatz MC Groovz Beatpad Pro (split input for PS2, Xbox, GCN)

Based on this information, can anyone tell me potentially what my problem is? I'm sure at least one of you have run into this problem before. The guy at the EBGames I bought it from said it might have something to do with the controller pins, but I don't know. I'm sure you guys would know better than I would.

Please help, it's no fun at all when your highest possible score goes from AA to B. E2.gif

I actually bought this pad on a whim at EB Games here in Canada. It's like an Ignition pad imitation, with the raised arrows, foam inserts etc. I was actually quite pissed off about this pad at first because there was a lag when you step on it. You can even notice it when you're going through menu options. If you step down really fast and bring your foot up quickly, you'll notice that you can raise your foot before it even responds on the screen.

Anyways, I found that if you go into Options>Sound menu in DDR, and adjust Timing to +9, it'll sync up a lot better. You might want to experiment with different values. I found that I get the most Perfects using +9.

The trouble with this pad is that if you have another pad that's perfect and doesn't need timing adjustment, you can't use the MadCatz pad with it because the timing adjustment will affect both pads, making one pad off-sync and the other one ok. I've already got 2 softpads that are perfect, and I got this third just to try it out and I like it, but can't use it at the same time as another pad because of this timing issue.

I've never used a RO Ignition pad, but this Beat Pad Pro (with the foam inserts and raised arrow buttons) seems like an ok replacement for the price (I paid $60 CDN). I do find that the pad isn't as responsive or sensitive as I'd like -- I have to stomp down with more pressure or put my body weight into every step for it to register... I'm used to just tapping with my foot on my other soft pads (Intec wired pad bought from Future Shop) and it just took a few days to get used to it.

Are RO Ignition pads the same way? Do you have to stomp down? Or maybe break them in before they respond better? Can you just tap lightly with your foot?

God bless you, Flowbee. The timing adjustment fixed everything, and I just AA'd a couple of stages I never could before. I'm so ecstatic. riiight.gif

It's no problem about other mats, I only use this one in the privacy of my own home; I use others' when I go out.

Thanks a lot, Flowbee. I'm forever in your debt. E4.gif

Actually, I've already returned and exchanged all the other ones. The one I have now is the last one they'd let me exchange for, which I'm happy about because I could have had a flat pad when I got Flowbee's helpful hint. E1.gif

Maybe an Ignition down the line, though.
