Today I called into Red Octane because my Ignition dance pad (8 months old) has developed a malfunctioning down arrow. The customer service guy at Red Octane informed me that there is nothing he can do considering that, and I quote, "The Lifetime expectancy of our pads is 6 - 12 months."

WHAT IN THE HECK IS UP WITH THIS?

How can they get away with charging so much for their pads when they expect them to crap out on thier customers in less than a year?!? This is sickening!

Please keep this in mind before buying their products! Your money will go down the drain in a matter of months! The Red Octane Executive that I spoke to confirmed this!

Yep, they're soft pads. They don't last forever.

When I played at home, I stuck to $15-20 cheap home pads and took very good care of them (i.e. never played on carpet, taped them down to the floor and made sure they didn't slide around).

If you did your research on long term life of the pads, general consensus says that they don't last very long. I got about six months to a good year out of each of my home pads, and I didn't pay much for them as long as I took good care of them.

i knew that the expectancy for ANY soft pad, whether taken good care of or not, is 6-12months. i knew that from day 1.

I'd say it's because the cheaper pads last even less time, under the same conditions.

I've almost had my 2.0 for almost a year and besides using it every other day with the occasional break of not playing, it has served well with no problems.

Consider yourself lucky. The left arrow on mine stopped working right after only TWO MONTHS.

She makes a very brilliant point. But still, why does Konami make their own softpads when they know tht we are capable of dicing them in at least 6 weeks?

Pad durability is an interesting issue. The cheapo soft pads you can buy at GameStop work perfectly well for light/standard players. Someone who's just starting the game won't want to commit to paying a huge amount of money up front just for a pad that can take a lot of abuse on heavy songs and still last, when they probably won't be playing on heavy for at least a month or three. When you've been playing long enough to want to try more advanced songs, you're going to need better hardware. By this point, you know you have a commitment to the game, and you're more willing to pay the $300 for a Cobalt Flux pad (or two, if you want to play double mode).

The pad has to take a person's full body weight stepping and jumping on it constantly. To be able to do this without breaking down is no easy task. That's why cheaper pads wear out in short order, and durable pads cost more. It seems perfectly reasonable to me for an Ignition pad to last 6-12 months, as I've gone through soft pads in as little as a month and a half.

you should do a little research before buying something that expensive... and you should take this kind of threads in the Hardware forum
