On an entirely different subject from my last couple of posts...

I noticed that when I played Starian (Hard level 6) that the ending step was a quad (UL+DL+UR+DR). Another player that I saw play another Hard level song (I forgot the song title, and I think the difficulty was a 7), their song ended with a triple (DL+middle+DR).

So, my question is this: at about what level do triples and quads start showing up in the middle of the songs, as opposed to just the ending step?

How was going from DDR to PIU your first time playing it? Did it seem totally different? Does it seem harder at first, or does it just come to you because of your DDR playing? Also, how long did it take you to get good at it (if you played DDR first and were good at that)?

I went from playing DDR to PIU a little while back. I can play 10s on DDR but I can only do like 7s or 8s on PIU.

One of the biggest challenges, at any difficulty level, is that the Freeze Arrows appear to work very differently between DDR and Pump It Up. Pump It Up's Freeze Arrows are much more harsh when missed.

DDR: Freeze arrows seem to count as one long arrow, regardless of length. Holding down a freeze arrow for its entire duration gets an OK, missing freeze arrow gets an N.G. and the arrow cannot be saved after the miss. The penalty for missing a freeze arrow appears to be one single penalty for the dance meter lifebar.

PIU: Freeze arrows seem to count for a certain number of eighth notes depending on the length of the freeze arrow. Holding down a freeze arrow for its entire length adds to an existing combo, as each eighth note within the freeze arrow causes the combo to increase during the freeze arrow. On the other hand, missing a freeze arrow counts as an initial miss for the start of the freeze arrow, and continuing to miss the freeze arrow during its length results in a Miss Combo per additional eighth note up to the entire length of the freeze arrow. As such, the penalty for misses continues as long as a freeze arrow continues to generate a Miss Combo.

As to why I'd like to know what songs not to play so that I don't offend spectators with the videos of those songs while I step to the arrows... I'm going by the idea that if someone does get offended, something like this could be a risk factor depending on exactly who is offended, if they happen to get offended:

http://www.ddrfreak.com/newpress/SignOnSanDiego_com%20%20News%20%20North%20County%20--%20Teens%20get%20mad%20over%20video%20-%20its%20removed.htm

So, I'd rather know what songs might add to that risk factor, and not play them. Also, I'd like to know that for the songs that I do happen to enjoy--musicwise and stepwise--that I can keep playing them as I want to without any obvious risk of offending anyone who choses to watch the game as I play.

This is especially important when playing in a place with a somewhat of a large group of people, such as Gameworks or Dave & Busters, where people frequently just stand and watch players who are playing, even if they aren't waiting to play next.

So basically, I don't have a whole lot of experience with previous versions of Pump It Up, so I don't know a lot of the songs from previous mixes, nor do I know all of the new songs that were introduced in Exceed 2.

There is no worry about that... the only offensive song in Exceed 2 is in French... no one will know what the guy is singing about... lol Anyhow incase that does happen - Exceed 2 has a feature to disable songs... so therefore it shouldn't be a problem.

in regard to shank's post, I have played DDR for a long time and I just went to play PIU for my 6th time the other week and I could pass 13s and a 16 footer. (Yay for I Give You All My Love!!!!!) It should come pretty much naturally if you are really good at DDR.

Uh, does anyone understand PIU Exceed2's scoring system? I sure don't. I see Internet Ranking scores of 12 million and beyond. The best I can do is just short of 3 million, and that's by playing songs with around 300-350 steps and getting probably 95-98% Perfects. Are there really songs with 1200 steps? Is there some way of earning more points that I don't know about?

I love shirts...and I have a DDR shirt, but not a Pump it Up shirt... frown.gif that makes me sad. I can't find the Exceed/2 shirt ANYWHERE, but all the tournament vids I see, they're all wearing it, and it makes me jealous hehe. If you guys know where I can find this shirt, or maybe another, PLEASE help me out! Thanks guys. And quit doggy on which is better lol (the first 10 pages are aboue PIU vs. DDR). They're both fun as hell. The way I see it, ones a blonde, the other, a brunette, and both very beautiful. E15.gif

This is a reply to YYR. yes, there are songs that high lol. Not really, but the best you can do on a PIU song, is Nightmare. I believe the highest scored song is Canon-D Full Nightmare, and Dignity Nightmare (Nightmare being both pads, or in DDR terms, DOUBLE mode - [for the newbs]) But yeah. I believe dignity nightmare has 873 steps? or something around that area. The #1 player on the ranks did this song 4 times in a row, and has a score of around 13 mill, its pretty insane. Shoot for songs like Vook, Xtreme, and Pump me amandous (however thats spelled lol) for some-what easy scoring vs. dignity and canon-d untill you can do them. I mean, a friend of mine, and myself have been playing dance games (me - 1.5 years, my friend 3 years) and he has just been able to A dignity, and I just passed PSMO (ddr) with a B, and I cant touch canon-d, and he can barely pass it rofl. So its quite tough sir. I believe a really good site on information like this is on www.pumphaven.com and www.piugame.com. Lots of good stuff there.

I thought Burning Krypt was the only one removed from Exceed 2 because of lyrical content?

I'm way late on this, but oh well.

There were seven songs removed from Exceed 2:
Burning Krypt (the whole song's about marijuana, uses n- once or twice)
Lovething (a lyric about passionate sex/intercourse)
DJ Nightmare (uses n- once)
Can You Feel Dis Or Dat (the chorus: "Tell me who's a real b-/tell me who's a real man", etc.)
You Don't Wanna Run Up! (the worst of them all: 'cause i'm put motherf-ers on they back')
Get The Party Started (The infamous "I'll be burnin' rubber / You'll be kissin' my a-" [really lame since this is a radio song] )
Betrayer ("Even though your punany be stankin like fishes" - this is especially stupid, since it's been in the game in every mix before this)

These songs were also locked out of PREX 3(except GTPS since it was new) and Exceed, but the difference was that they could be unlocked in those. Exceed 2, they're not there at all.

Far as I know, nothing in X2 is offensive at all. BBLBR is a technicality, in my experience, no one notices the BG at all or even takes offense at it.
The new stuff's pretty clean too, unless someone thinks the In Melody chorus is saying n-, which it's not. (It's a Korean word that vaguely sounds like it.)

Oh, and if you want to get a high nightmare score without killing yourself as Canon-D and Dignity practically require, I highly recommend Solitary 2 as the #1: it's not quite THAT tough, and the end freeze arrow is worth a ridiculous 181 combo.

Essa Maneira, Pray, Eternity, Go, Extravaganza, Csiko's Post, and a few others can easily break 2,000,000 also(the top score is something to the effect of 10,xxx,xxx in the USA, I think.)
Remember, just because a song has lots of 16th notes won't necessairily get a high score. Power of Dream and Kiss Me are worth very little, since they have almost no freezes. However, get a song with a good mixture of both, or a lot of freezes(Maneira or Go for the first, Pray or Eternity for the second), and it's easy high scoring.

However, to get the highest high scores, there's no way around it, you need to play the hardcore NMs.

If you're seeing Korean Tournaments, the Korean version of the official site sells those. I think it's exclusive to Korea too.

If you're seeing American Tournaments, first off, where the freak was there ever an American Tournament?, and those(if you see jerseys) are for supporters only.

Hold steps don't neccesarily mean a higher score, the lower the BPM the less combo bonus you get for hold steps.

Hold steps still penalize the "lifebar" per missed note and generate a miss combo depending on how many notes the hold steps lasts for, right?

Yes, if you miss a freeze you get misses.

for instance, play join the party on crazy (11 footer) and if you dont think you can by yourself get a friend to help just to see the madness. there is a center freeze through the entire song. obviously, there are also 8th notes screwing you over the entire way too. in DDR you could just skip the freeze but in pump, it is literally impossible to pass it without holding the freeze arrow.

Ugh, I managed to find a Pump It Up machine at a ghetto arcade, and it was pretty crappy. The game itself was not that bad, just a little confusing.

I use both of my feet to hit the center, switching on and off of it except for certain parts, anyhow doing so makes it look like plain old dancing with the spins and what not.
