This morning, I played my custom Maxx Unlimited step chart on Ultramix 2 (A little less air and a little more stream), so I got a workout, despite the fact that I B'ed it (yeah, I only B'ed my custom mix. I'm pathetic. Yeah yeah yeah...).

Anyways, afterwards, I listened to some music on my way to school and the damndest thing; it sounded slower than usual. Let me see if I can put this into a concievable context. My music is a burned mix of DDR songs, one of 'em was Era (Step Mix). All versions of Era are 180 BPM, but today it sounded more like 170 BPM.

I've had an experience like this before. Once I listened to Paranioa Survivor Max and it sounded like it was as fast as Drop Out. Beforehand, I tried to play Legend of Maxx (and sucked like a ho on a millionaire).

Thoughts?

I don't know too terribly much about this.

However, I have a somewhat similar dilemma:

Is it just me, or are some songs (like Kind Lady and Miracle, specifically, and they kinda sound a bit different as well) actually faster on home versions and StepMania than they are in the arcade? Perhaps (and also probably) it's just me, but I figured I'd ask.

Oddly enough, I've noticed pretty much the same thing myself. After sessions of DDR where I play a lot of fast, challenging songs, when I go to listen to music later, any kind of music, it sounds slower. This also happens when I'm listening to music while working out at the gym. One song I noticed in particular was the original version of Follow the Sun. The original song is supposed to be 190 BPM (I think), but when I listen to it while I'm working out, it sounds like it's at least 10 BPM slower, maybe more. I've also noticed the opposite effect when I listen to music as I'm trying to fall asleep. When I'm in a more relaxed state, music seems to play faster. o_O I have no idea could possibly cause this, though.

The opposite for me. When I listen to a high BPM song, then a lower BPM song, the lower BPM song seems faster.

I've experienced this too. The truth is that nothings really changed. This only means that your hearing has improved. Scientifically speaking, if you deal with a particular sound for long enough, you will start to notice different things, such as the rest of the notes on the piano in this song...(see my avatar) E7.gif

A 10 BPM diffrence isn't that big.I don't know, I can't say it has happend to me, but if you can tell the diffrence between 10 BPM that easily, you must be pretty gifited.

Sometimes i'll listen to a (e.g.) 200 BPM song, then i'll listen to another 200 BPM song but the second one sounds slower than 200 BPM.... now THATS wierd!

It's a psychological thing. Like when your playing a fast song, and there's a pause, and the arrows look like they're going backwards? pretty much the same thing.

Taken from another forum:

The correct BPM is determined by whoever creates the song. Sounds logical, right? But...if NAOKI set the tempo to 300 in "LOL Audio Editor" then it's 300 BPM. If he was like "i'm going to be happy.gif tonight" and set it to 37.5 BPM (which is 300 divided by 8 if you can't do math) just to make it complicated for himself then it's 37.5 BPM. Doesn't MATTER how the song sounds. You want to know the correct BPM of MAX300, go interview Naoki and ask him what he made it when he was making it.

Now if you were to logically conjecture as to what the BPM is then you'd think for about -1 seconds and you'd tell fairly easily whether it's 135 or 270. The generally accepted thing is that hyper hyper fast beat = 270 and regular dance beat = 135. Sappy slow love song = 135/2.

If I wanted to find the BPM of an ABBA song I'd go look at an ABBA sheet music book and go like "oh look at that, [quarter note] = 160, that means it's 160 BPM" even if the song sounds like it's 80 BPM because it has a slow feel. Except that if I made it 160 BPM in a DWI competition, everyone would go "DOUBLED BPM, GAME OVER" so i'd cut it in half.

No, I was talking about how songs that normally sound like 180 BPM sound like 170 BPM instead.

They feel slower because you're used to faster. Simple as that.

But then what was fast still sounds a little slower. Ex. My Paranoia Survivor Max scenario.

Perhaps marijuana is involved. That can make everything slow down.

BTW, everytime I see your sig picture, it looks like someone lying on their back with blood spurting out of their jugular.
