Ok, what's the deal with Freestyle getting better prizes than PA? More people enter PA tourneys and it takes a lot more effort (sometimes not true) to get better at PA. So far, almost every semi-big tournament has decent prizes, but they're freestyle prize is almost always better than the PA prize. I seriously think that if PA prizes were better than Freestyle prizes a lot more people would practice and try to win other than creating routines to try and win a better prize, or just not go at all.
Think about it this way. There's 60 entrants for PA, and 30 for freestyle (just a random guess-timate average). PA will get a modded ps2 w/ beatmania IIDX games + controller, Panasonic DVD/nintendo Gamecube, and 40% prize money. Freestyle wins a Max2 machine.
That would mean about $1,000 for PA and $4,000-$5,000 for Freestyle. Does this seem right? I mean, yes there is some entertainment and difficulty in Freestyle, but enough to totally bypass everyone who practices almost everyday to get better opposed to someone who practices once in a while until he thinks he should make a routine?
Just wondering what you all think about this.
(Note: And yes I know some freestyle players play a lot, sometimes even more than some of the best PA'ers) |

I know that I worked my butt off for three months to try to win a Max2 machine in a big tournament. And that's the thing. (we hope that) Freestylers put a lot of effort to perform for the crowd. PAers can get practice in whenever (which I've seen one person not play for a month and still place in the top 3 in a competition), but performers have to remember the steps, techniques and moves which requires constant practice.
And not all tournaments have the FS prize as a better prize. If you look at the big 64 person tournaments, the winner walks off with $350-$400, compared to the FS competition where the winner goes home with just $40 or $50. _________________

Quite frankly I have never heard of Freestylers getting the better prize in a tournament. PA people always get the better prizes.
Where are these tournaments? _________________

He was talking about the CyberBeat Nation(CBN) tourny in socal not too long ago. Bruce Leroy won that Max2 machine for his mikeneko rock FS routine.
Tigger won the PA prize. _________________

The freestyle vs PA prizes during normal "locals" style tournaments usually have PA prizes larger than freestyle, but what I'm saying is that whenever there's a large scale tournament (that has both freestyle and PA), people tend to put up a better prize for freestyle. It's not that I think that Freestylers don't deserve a good prize for taking all the time memorizing and creating a good routine, but it's kind of a let down when you see 3 good freestyles and 10 great PA players. This is just an example so don't get all pissed from me saying this :b, but it's kinda like the Sports. PA players would be the Basketball, Football, Soccer, Track, etc style, while freestylers would be the gymnastics, cheerleading, Ice skating, etc style. Basically what I see is that the look of playing is considered harder than the technical score by the difference in prize. Please don't take this the wrong way, but it's like cheerleaders getting paid more than the athletes. |

It does, in a sense, depend on where you're from. Where I live, I have to make the PA prize bigger because there's more competitiors that PA (actually everyone PAs), the FS prize would be just cash or GCs to some restaurant. Other cities have a huge FS following, so the prize has to be bigger than the PA. And some cities are even.
Plus, you can have a PA tournament at any time with any amount of people. You can't do the same with a performance tournament unless it's improv. It's the culmination of a month or more of work, and that's likely the reason why they get the better prizes. _________________

well thats cuz youre comparing one cool thing vs one sucky thing...excuse my vocabulary.
I would honestly rather see freestyle than Perfect Attack because Perfect Attack is just watching people step on the arrows right nice. Freestyle is waching people step on arrows right nice while pulling off fancy moves. So basically, PA requires you to able to step on the arrow on time, FS requires you to actually know "dance" moves or others and sometimes memorize steps.
Seriously, I would rather see ANY routine than see Yasu PA MAX 300. Now that I think about it, he could pull off a pretty sweet routine to that. He's already set since he has the damn song memorized. And then the ultimate move is the fact that he leaves the song AAA'ed. _________________
