Just curious
Since SM isn't really being gone after legally because it makes no money, is it illegal for a website to charge you for membership to download songs for it? I only ask this because I found a SM sim/dwi site that is basically charging people for its downloadable content. There IS a way to get it without paying but it is next to impossible. And by paying for a membership; you get INSTANT access.
Your input would be appreciated. _________________

Not in the least.
They could even make some mods and charge you money for StepMania. StepMania is under the MIT license, so you can do just about anything you want with it, including butchering it and selling it.
Even more legal is selling content for it (Look at PopnKo).
You are allowed to sell material that goes into StepMania if you are the owner of the material you are selling.
If they are selling copyrighted material that is not theirs to sell, (like the song or something) that is a serious.
If they are selling a song that is not theirs to sell, you may want to rat them out because of how immoral it is. |

Consider them ratted then.
I shall do this. Because every other site that has user contributed content I have been to it is availible for free.
Thanx for your input. _________________

By rat them out, I didn't mean to stepmania, I meant to the owners of the music that are in the files they are distributing.
StepMania has no control at all over how the software is used.
Like report them to record labels... Napster was free that's why they were so hard to shut down. This is not.
If they are using copyrighted material, it's a VERY serious offense. |
