Great! So where can I find the patches, and some instructions telling me what I need and how to do it? |

Go to this site http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_patches_d.shtml
They have patches for 3rd and 5th Mix |

I got a 5th Mix from MESDDR above and I put it in and it comes up as..."SOFTWARE TERMINATED. YOUR CONSOLE MAY HAVE BEEN MODIFIED. PLEASE CALL ##########" I called the number but it was out of service...Do I burn the patch to a disc and put the disc in before the PSX-X-Changer and the actual game or what? _________________

I have the slim ps2 model. I found that you can eliminate the need for a flip top by opening up your ps2 and putting tape on a sensor from this page (scroll to the bottom), and I am very skeptical of that method. Has anyone tried this/has evidence to back it up? Thanks. _________________

The thing with this one is that it might get the job done as a replacement for the Magic Switch "C" tool, since that is the one that holds the lid back from closing, but if you don't feel like you don't wanna mess around with the insides of your system, I have something better that you could try. Since you have a slim PS2 and you have doubts about opening your system, have you tried the using the Slim Tool (a.k.a. PSTwo Fix), since that allows you to close the lid while the thing is in place (no huge protruding piece of plastic for the "C" piece), and best of all, you won't have to worry about going under the console to make it permanent since the "C" piece and the other parts in particular can be easily taped down without interfering with the DVD spinning. _________________

I have a very good question to ask....does pump it up for ps2 work with the flip top and the new swap magic discs? Also, if I decide to import ddrmax, will the newer swap magic cd version work with it, because last time the older cd version didn't work for me ...

I'm pretty sure it does, though I can't test it because my flip-topped V4 died. Also I am not planning on getting the Korean Version of Exceed because the American version (as far as I had heard) is more or less like the Korean Version (give and take a couple of songs), unlike the US iterations of DDR (No offence to Konami).
I am getting a premod from Modchip Network, so once I get it (either on friday or monday as I am getting it via priority mail and it shipped yesterday) I will test out to see if it works not only for PS2 games (no duh there) but also if it will accept anti-mod PSX games (The matrix infinity website does say that it does defeat the anti-mod games, but only on model versions 9-slim. If you do contact them remember to put your email at the end (or somewhere in) of the message. I thought they were giving me the silent treatment but in actuality they've been repeating the first 2 letters of my address (like [email protected] instead of [email protected])*. So once I get the premod I will review both Modchip Network's installation on my premod as well as the Matrix Infinity chip (complete review of the chip after I get BM Best Hits and BM 6th + CORE).
Oh and the version that is premodded is the PSTWO
Xmodds is having a sale on premods. The premods with the latest magic chip go for $245. Premods with either DMS4Lite, Crystal Chip, or Matrix Infinity goes for $260. Premods with DMS4PRO go for $275. Add 20 bucks for shipping, and expect to pay more if you want the case to be a different color (but in the realm of a DDR Home game for the price).
Here is the website for Xmodds: http://www.xmodds.com

So where do i get one with decent shipping? B/c a place near here sells Extreme Jp, so i'm set on that.
Also, do i need to get a power converter? if so what voltage. Or give me an item name, and i'll go into radio shack.
Thanks guys.

Is this really considered legal even if he does have a Japanese PS2? The title screen on Extreme JP says " For Japan only / You will face severe penalties" Is owning a NTSC/J PS really "any more legal" than modding? I'm asking this in kind of a hypothetical sense... |

Thanks a ton, zaku! I bought the slim tool, and it works great! I highly recommend it to anyone with a slim PS2 who is interested in playing imports. _________________

I have a question reguarding flip tops. I don't own one yet but I'm wondering can I use the swap disk WITHOUT the cover? as in just waiting for the splash screen, ejecting, then putting in the game and putting it back in? I don't wanna void my warrentee if I can and I don't see how it wouldn't work. |

You can use a slide card. Fair warning, I have heard that it can eventually kill the tray motor. As far as I know the slide tools are only for the non-slim models. There are flip tops available for the slim, too. I am guessing you have a non-slim PS2, right?
Modchip Network does have some flaws in its system, but it is a good place to get a modchip or premod. Premods run for as low as $ 215 before shipping (which is a slim PS2 modded with the latest magic chip). Also they have laser fixes available and cases, too (but no PS2 original cases). Just a fair warning (that is not on the site) the orders are on (at least for me) 10 days back order, meaning that you will have to wait 10 days before you get your tracking number. The site uses PayPal for payments.
Here is a limited review of the Matrix Infinity chip. Currently as far I have run it most of the features on the chip's site do work. I haven't tested the V9-SLIM antimod PS1 defeating feature or the multidisc support (and I don't want to spend 10+ hours beating the first disc on Final Fantasy 7-9 or relearn Metal Gear Solid, so I am waiting for my beatmania Keydiscs and Append discs to come in). I did finally get to watch IIDX Visual Emotions 2 (I am loving the movie for DoLL, No Doubt Get Loud, and Leading Cyber), but that's almost an entirely different subject (other than the fact that MI does support (at least) Japnese DVDs. I also haven't had any problems with the chip yet, too.
Limited Grade: A
Chip's homepage: http://www.infinitymod.com
Where to get: http://www.xmodd.com http://www.modchipnetwork.com
Remember, the grade of the chip might change due to the results of the Anti Mod PS1 and Multidisc tests.

Once I get the 2 other tests done, I am going to PM the topic poster about updating the first post with the Matrix info (wow, it's going to be updated the first time for over a year.) and where to buy Premods (I see neither topic in the first post.) _________________

why can't I just eject the swap magic CD and put in my game? I could just do the flip top like I planned but when I get my PS2 fixed I get a new warranty when I could really use if it craps out again.
Edit: also I'd like to know more about the slide card deallie, can I just make a home made one and not have to buy ANYthing except swapdisks? I really wanna keep my warranty when I get it |

Problem is when you press the Eject button, it triggers a firmware check inside the PS2 that checks the region coding of the next disc to be inserted. The purpose of the slide card and flip-top mods is to allow you to change discs without pressing Eject, which means the region checking code is not executed.
As for making a home slide card, you can; there are templates out there somewhere so you can cut one out of an old credit card. Be warned, though, that it is going to put a lot of additional strain on your drive's motor, and may well cause it to die much earlier than it otherwise would have, and if the repair techs have a suspicion that the damage was caused by usage outside what's in the manual (read: using a slide card) they may well decline to repair the unit under warranty. |

Does the PSX-Change work just like the swap magic disks? If not, do you need some other kind of fliptop or something? I have the slim tool for the slim PS2. _________________

Hey I don't have time to read through all 70 pages. I bought a new slim PS2 verson 7000, and I have DDR reMIX 2 and Ap. Remix vol. 2. I have swap magic 3.6 DVD and disk versons, but neither of them will actuallu play the game. Does anyone know what I'm going wrong? Please help! |

Should I return this and just get a japanese ps2 or what? I didn't think it would be such a hassel. The swap disks WILL play all ps2 versons of DDR, though, right??? |

Is Breaker Pro the best boot disk to play 3rd, 4th and 5th mix on the slim ps2?
Also, what site has the best price for PSTwo-Fix? |
