The "EDITS" function for Stepmania

I'm trying to figure out how to make an EDIT for songs in stepmania without actually editing the .dwi files of the songs. In this, I found that there's a directory located at StepMania\Data\MachineProfile\Edits and am assuming that this is the means by which I need to make the edit.

However, I don't know the syntax to use. Can somebody help me with this? I've looked for online documentation and could not find it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Well I suggest go to edit and sync menu thing and make a new diffulcty but make it an edit...Thats all I know....

If you mean to make EDIT steps for a song... you are out of luck becuase to make edit steps you have to change the DWI... not sure becuase I use the song sync/edit thing in stepmania.

If you absolutely have to avoid changing the dwi file, make a backup of everything.

Why would the below directory exist if you couldn't create non-invasive edits?

StepMania\Data\MachineProfile\Edits

And I know it s something new, because it wasn't there much before RC2. I've used Alpha21 before this, and it wasn't there.
