This is more of a curiosity for me than a complaint, but here goes...
I just got JP MAX2 on eBay, because I figured I had MAX and EX, and I should add it to my collection. I didn't look too carefully at the songlist here at DDR Freak, though. When I started playing it, I realized there are a few licensed songs missing: It's Raining Men (Almighty Mix), A Minute (Extended Mix), More Than I Needed To Know, and There You'll Be.
There You'll Be is at least available on US EX, making me wonder, is that the only Japanese arcade Dancemania song that isn't on a Japanese home mix but is on an American one? And bigger question, what happened to these four songs? I noticed Senorita is also missing from EX. I would have a bigger beef if any of these songs were songs I really liked. But why didn't these songs make it home? And what other Dancemania songs from the arcades never appeared on a home game? _________________

Completely unrelated to my earlier post:
Today I received my import 4th Mix and 2nd Mix in the mail. Neither one seems to work in my Japanese PS2; I always get the "Please insert a valid Playstation or Playstation 2 disc" message or whatever it says when it doesn't recognize the format. Anyone else know why this might be happening? I bought them used on eBay from a seller in Japan. The games look legit, they include even the flap cards or whatever it is they're called that go on the outside of the CDs when they're new. My PS2 was bought in Thailand, if that makes any difference; I don't know why it would. All Japanese PS2 games I have ever tried have worked fine; this is the first time I've tried PS1 games. (I also bought the Club Ver. Append discs, but as I understand it those won't work without 2nd Mix...) _________________

The CDs appear to be in good condition (not perfect but no giant scratches either) and the seller, gelkangelkan, has never received neutral or negative feedback in 98 responses. I have contacted him (her?) about the fact they don't work but have yet to hear back. _________________

It may not be related, but just in case...
My US PS2 is one of the original model #'s and recently it just stopped playing most PS1 games. It still plays my DDR mixes, but other games (Castlevania:SOTN and Metal Gear Solid most notably) give me the exact same message you are getting. Both discs are in pretty good shape, and have been working fine for years.
I have not had any issue with my Japanese PS2 which is a newer model #. I know this doesn't answer or fix your problem, but it could be an issue with your hardware, not the software. _________________

|
|
I just got my copy of DDRMAX JP and discovered that it has no ONI mode
Does this mode need to be unlock?
Is there a way to activate it in the options menu?
or
Was it just not included on this mix?(even though it was in the US version)
Thanx |

Open up your ps2, take a can of air, blow it out. Also try cleaning the laser with a q-tip covered in rubbing alcohol. To get to the laser: take off the cover, unscrew the cd cover (it has 4 tiny screws on it), and you will see the laser. Rub the q-tip covered in rubbing alcohol in a circular motion on the laser for about 30 seconds, then use the other end of the q-tip to dry it off. You might need another q-tip for the drying process. Reassemble everything correctly, and you shouldn't have anymore problems. _________________

Thanks boss, I will give it a shot. Though I am terrified to do it my JP PS2 due to the cost of those, but if I mess up my US one it would be a good time to get one of the slick new slim ones. As a matter of fact I might intentionally misread "q-tip" as "Screwdriver"... _________________

Hey! Sorry if this has been asked, I dont' have time to look over 22 pages of this stuff! But I have been looking into mod chips and thought maybe this one would be a good idea. http://www.modchip.com/ps2/slidecard.htm Its a slide card, so I dont' have to take apart my PS2 to play import disks? Please let me know if this is a good or bad idea! Thanks. |

You will eventually rip the shit out of your PS2's drive motor.
Fliptop lids are much better and require minimal screwdrivering.

you take the case off your PS2, put on the flip top case, screw it in. Then you get your swap disk DVD disk, put it in the PS2, wait for it to boot up, then take out the swap disk, put in your game and hit X. that's what I've heard everywhere although I dont have mine yet |

About the flip tops, make sure when you take off the power /eject button off your original ps2 case.DO NOT TAKE OFF THE WHITE TAB THAT INSERTED INSIDE THE PS2 AND IN THE POWER/ EJECT BUTTON, if you do your ps2 is now garbage. _________________

Heres a kind of trivial/ worthless question that I would like answered before I shell out $60+ for DDRMAX2 JP:
Does this game rate you for any Oni/ Nonstop courses (like how 8th Mix rates you for Pop4/More Light -ex-/Naoki neo-Standard) and are these flahed on the screen after a set of songs?
Thanks alot! |
