Hi,
I want to set a custom FPS limit for Stepmania,
but I don't know if it exists or how to enable it.
I guess it's some sort of command in the stepmania.ini.
Does anybody know how to enable it?

thx

I need a fps limit like the command in Counterstrike.
I want to limit my frames to 100 fps,
but since I'm using a TFT i can't go abe 75Hz.

just turn vsync on, it will cap your fps at 75. no point in going above that.

theres really no point to go above 60, even 30 is playable.

Believe me, there is a point in setting the framerate higher than 75 fps.
And 30 fps are "playable", but nothing more than that.

You can tell the difference with your eyes between 60 fps and 100 fps. Since Stepmania is a lot based on precise timing, you can see an amazing difference between 60 fps and 100 or 300 fps, because the arrows on the screen are updated more regularly.
It's just happening on the screen and doesn't affect gameplay,
but it affects the feeling while playing.
Just go and try a song with vsync enabled and then with vsync disabled. If you get about 200 fps you'll see the difference.

Is the fps limit based on OpenGL or does it have to be integrated in the game, too?

at a refresh rate of 75, and a framerate of 100, stepmania will look like its lagging, without actually lagging, trust me, either turn on vsync, or turn off vsync if your computers up to snuff.

uh if your refresh rate is at 75 your monitor won't display more than 75 fps. it'll just ghost if it goes above 75.

i was addressing the original poster. and you do get ghosting if you go over 75fps at 75hz refresh rate (i assume this is what you refer to when you say it lags at 100 fps)

the ghosting makes it appear to lag yes. Turn Vsync on to make sure you get the proper framerate, or turn it off and hope to get > 200

Two things:

1) If you are using a vsync that was designed for your hardware ( one that is actually what your monitor is running at and it's syncing properly ) having higher framerate will only be a bad thing from a visual point of view.

2) When you do not cap your frame rate at all, it always sucks up 100% cpu. you want to avoid this as much as you can.

If it is not capping with Vsync on and a set framerate, then it's a bug.

Okay you are right, I apologize for this stupid idea blink.gif

But now I'm having another problem:
I changed to Linux and my ATI doesn't support vsync as it should do.
Linux Support for ATI is bad, so I guess I'll have to find some workaround.

Isn't there some type of FPS Limit command for Stepmania available? I tested Chromium BSU for example and it seems to be limited to 50 FPS.
