This happened on Pump It Up (no DDR machine in my area). A group of people with a ~9-year-old kid came in. None of them had played before, but wanted to try it. I somehow ended up playing with the kid.
Now, on Pump It Up, both players are always on the same difficulty while playing versus, so we're playing ridiculously easy songs to give him a chance at keeping up. The kid realizes that while I'm playing, he can't fail, and gets 3 songs in a row per credit. After one set, I'm quite bored and want to go on to something more advanced, but for some reason he couldn't understand when I tried to tell him, and insisted on both of us continuing to play 1-2 foot songs. Eventually, I gave up on trying to communicate with him, and just walked away.
It was a bit sad, though, because even though he played about 15 songs, he failed every single one of them. |

pet peeves? Lemme see..
I haven't been playing for very long, so my stamina isn't quite where I'd like it to be. Because of this, I'll have to grab the lovely bar behind me sometimes. And of course, every time I go for it, the same kid is practically sitting on it. I have asked him numerous times to not lean on it, because he might get whacked, and I don't wish for him to get hurt. But he still does.
Little weenie.
However, that's just a minor annoyance compared to what my friends and I get to deal with every week. See, at a local restaraunt with an arcade attached, they have a free videogame night every Wednesday. So of course they're going to have a lot more kids there. That's a given. I don't mind playing with them, for the most part, they're okay. But there's always one or two kids who refuse to listen to us when we say there are three songs to a round, and run to their parents to tell them that we're cutting them in line. Upon hearing this, the parents go biotch to the manager, and we get spazzed at. The manager comes up yelling at my friend while he's doing Max300, telling him to get off the machine and to let the little kids play. Whereas in fact, we DO let them play. When it's their turn, at least. We follow the line procedures just like any other person would. Five of us, including one of our mothers, attempt to explain this to the manager, but she just flat out won't hear it. From what I've gathered, one person has gotten seemingly banned from the place, as we haven't seen him in weeks. All because the managers' little girl said he cut her in line, which he would never do. This kid has let me take his turn a few times, back when I was still learning the game. He's a good one.
We're all ready to stop going to this place. Even though it's free game night, they still make a buttload of money because all the kids will pay for their overpriced food. And they REALLY need to fix one of their arrows. You have to stomp it in order for it to activate. (We have indeed alerted them of this..) |

Yeah... it really bugs me when people pick the same song 3 times in a row. At a local hangout one time a group of teenage girls picked "When the Saints go marching" no less than 20 times. Even worse they played on beginner/light and had no concept of a coin line or taking turns. |

*Thinks*...
The thing that just pisses the hell out of me is when people from here, or have been here use DDR terms just to show off. Now, don't get me wrong, I'll use DDR lingo when talking to someone from here, but cmon, USE ENGLISH PEOPLE! _________________

"Can I shadow you?" I've gotten that from one person, than after finishing one song that person jumps off and another jumps on asking "can I shadow you?". I don't see why they have to shadow me on the opposing ddr panels... but that's not really a problem. Another buggy thing is when a kid chooses the same song 3 times in a row. But that's not really that buggy. But the same kid who did this also mistimed his steps on beginner and ended up beating the panels to death. I just kind of felt sorry for him when he missed the arrows after trying so hard in beginner's mode.
Another buggy thing is when people leave their cards on the machine to stake their place in "line" but then the people next in line who did not place cards down are wondering if the person will ever stake his place and start playing. Then in the midst of that, some other group of people just take his place.. it's like the guy totally forgot about his card and his place in line. And the people next in line had to waste time pondering who was next, when whoever it was wasn't even around. |

Hmm...things that irk me that people do when playing DDR...
- People who don't wear shoes while playing...this gets compounded when they complain that I do wear shoes while playing...BLARGH?!
- People who get up on the adjoining panel and begin shadowing you when you're not expecting it. Maybe it doesn't bother some people, but it unnerves me.
- Stomping on the pad. By the gods, the sensors aren't broken....or at least, they weren't until you came along!
- Standing too close to me or leaning on the bar. Unlike nicer people, I'm not so forgiving though. I warn them, and if they do so while I'm playing, that's fair game to me.
And more than anything...people who think they're gods at the game and try to point it out whenever possible. By people, I'm specifically referring to this one guy in particular. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he posts on here. This guy comes in, has a set agenda of three or four songs that he cycles through, all of which are heavy. He'll do Cowgirl on x3, Reverse, Hidden I believe...Can't Stop Falling In Love on x2, Orion .78 on x2 or x3, and something else I can't quite remember. Regardless, he does the same little simple dances for each of those songs...it's like a freestyling nightmare. When I say "same little dances", I cite Orion .78, where he simply dances the song until the long stream of down (?) notes comes up and he just spins around with his leg over the bar while he does it. Yeah, it's not the simplest thing in the world, but you're not a god because you can do it. I know he can do other songs on Heavy really well...I asked him to do Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) sometime back before I had gotten fairly decent at the game, and he threw a multiplier mod on there and did great. Anyhow, this guy always refers to the machine as "his machine" and asks why we're on it. I called him out the other day when he showed up. Asked him to show us how awesome he was by doing So Deep with no modifiers at all. He said that he was going to just show off to his girlfriend and do something easier, so he did Can't Stop Falling In Love (Speed Mix) again. Whoop-de-doo.
Egh.../end rant |

-When people offer me tokens to finish my round. I payed to play, if i want you to finish off my game, i'll let you know. Otherwise put a token up and wait your turn.
-When people ask if they can play before me if i'm next in line. If i want you to go next, i'll friggin suggest it. Otherwise put a token up and wait your turn.
-People who that think since they are better at the game than you are your turn doesn't matter. I see alot of kids sort of looking down on others for their current DDR ability, i mean, everyone here has probably picked on a beginner at some time, and playing around is obviously something that everyone does, but being stuck up towards people because you know you are better is pretty childish.
-People who walk by and make fun of DDR but couldn't do it if they tried. One of the last times i was at the arcade some kids were laughing at a few of my friends for playing. About 15 minutes later i see the same kids getting really interested in how the game works and making their first attempt at beginner.
-Disrespecting the token line. If there are alot of people wanting to play, put a damn token up to secure your spot in line.
-When the manager at the arcade pulls the plug on games 5 minutes before closing time. I was so pissed when this happened to me. The guy cuts off power to the DDR machine 3/4 of the way through my 3rd song..
-Machine hogs. Play your game, finish the hell up and get off the platform, it's time for whoever was next to play.
probably some more i forgot.. |

People who kick over/sit next to and knock my drink over when I'm playing at a Muvico arcade...and the people working the concession stand think I'm just trying to get a free drink. There's ice and soda all over the carpet now, and they don't believe me. I think that's two gripes in one.
Oh yeah, I forgot about families who places each of their four children on an arrow, and encourages them to jump up and down, really hard. It's so cute to them...but there's very few times I've wanted to punch someone for being a parent, and this was one of them. |

People who take pictures of their scores, I'm fine with writing them down, but the flash really screws up your eyes... _________________
