I think it was BOYS on DDRUSA, either that or Dub-I-Dub. Both on Light. I tried BOYS on standard the same night. I failed. Horribly...

April 1999 (has it been that long ago) @ Cyberzone Arcade, Koreatown, Los Angeles, CA, USA

Wanted to check this place out because a magazine called TIPS & TRICKS (publisher is Larry Flynt, go figure!) had an article in the April 1999 edition showing a token from the nearest arcade in their area called Cyberzone Arcade. So I check the place out, and--lo and behold--they had a DDR 1.5 ver. machine out there. First song I tried was HAVE YOU EVER BEEN MELLOW on Single Easy Mode. Had no idea what the heck I was doing & failed it miserably. So I started to leave the place. If it hadn't been for a DDR player named Jenith (Bum Suk) telling me how to play the game, the I would have never been involved in the DDR/Bemani/In The Groove world. And the rest is history! Is that a trip or what? Please reply, over! Thanks!
