modding my soft pad

hey guys i wanted to know what i should do to mod my soft plastic pad, i want as much of the arcade experience as possible without buying another pad (im broke and my dad won't spend even 50 bucks on a new pad)

what can i do

and btw i didn't post this in the respective pads thread because there's to much discussion about other things going on in there and it would be easier this way

any tips????

Considering the above thread is a locked thread. ill post my soft pad mod question here. Do these materials sound suitable for the plywood mod.

the total for materials to mod 2 pads is roughly $40. I will probably complete this mod this coming weekend on this pad

If your dad won't spend 50 bucks for a new pad, then how is he gonna spend 40 bucks for the mods. I was able to buy ignition knock offs on Ebay and real red octane foam for only $77 dollars for two pads.

It seems a lot of work and money going into modding some cheapo soft pads, when there are much better alternatives available in ignition type pads.

Hey, to each his own. But if you are dead set on modding a cheapo soft pad, my suggestion would be to go to redoctane and buy some of their foam at $10.00 a piece, (plus 4.50 shipping),(total bill $24.50) and then either duct tape the soft pad to the foam, (easy way), or carefully slice open the very bottom of the pad as close to the edge as possible, smooth out the sensor layer as much as possible, and place the RO foam on that.

Then place the very bottom layer to cover as much as the foam as possible, and use duct tape to fill in the gaps.

This is definitely cheaper than plywood and plastic, and will probably work just as well. I have done this with an existing gamestop pad, and while it does not work nearly as well as a "true" ignition pad, it does eliminate a lot of the bunching and slipping associated with thin soft pads.

I like Tommy's idea of using phone cords to outline the 9 different boxes. Has anyone done this? If you put telephone cord between the ddrmat and the hardwood floor covering, would your feet be able to feel it?

Another idea that I thought of is to put a thin square of clear plexiglass over the center square of the pad (but under the floor covering). That would raise the center square, kind of like the metal pads in the arcades, but should still allow me to slide. Has anyone tried that?
