Hey! I'm new here and I hate such a stupid topic being my first one, but I had to ask the community!

Do you think, based on what you saw, read, heard or experienced in general, that DDR is mostly an arcade game for guys or for girls?

I'm a guy and I enjoy that game, but as stupid as it may sound, my parents think it's for girls only and I have to prove em it's not or at least prove it to myself!

So just answer if it's for guys or for girls, and I'll show em they are wrong, since I think it's pretty mixed!

Thanks so much!

I think it is one of the first games in a while to be really unisex. I know a good amount of girls and guys who play it, although in my area it seems like the guys are just a lot more skilled at it then the girls. I'm thinking it is because we play more than them but that's open to debate E10.gif.

Ditto.

Video games (DDR included) are for everyone. Plus it's great when pretty girls play DDR E13.gif

I've noticed that guys mostly play competitively, while girls generally play it just for shits and giggles.

And yes, I'm aware that there are people of each gender that play for other reasons; this is just from my observation.

One problem i've experienced in the UK is that there are so many imitations of DDR (Such as Dance: UK, Pop Idol etc) which are aimed at the young female crowd, that quite a lot of people think that DDR is a girly thing. Even I thought DDR was for your stereotypical 9 year old girl who listens to cheesy pop, that was until I saw videos of guys AAA 10 footers! I'm not sure if fellow DDRers over the pond have seen UK DDR arcade machines, but 9/10 of the demo videos are songs like 5,6,7,8, and other random pop songs and the first songs you see on the song selection are the licensened ones. You have to scroll through about 40 songs down (or scroll up which people forget to riiight.gif ) before you get to the more 'blokey' songs like, Afronova/Paranoia/Max 300 etc. I've forgotten what my point is so i'm just gonna end my post there! biggrin.gif

Tell your mom that more guys play DDR than girls. Girls like to play beginner for fun and guys don't feel satisfied until they can AAA PSMO, or they just get too obsessed with halo that they forget all about DDR. HALO SUCKS!

No it doesn't.....................................................

But that's another topic for another forum...

Anyways in my experience it's pretty much unisex and I've had a chick kick my buttocks in DDR before

She was REALLLLLY good but besides that It's mainly unisex

I have seen girls play at my mall before, but they only played on light and a few on standard. I haven't seen a skilled girl play there yet, although I have seen quite a few skilled guys play there.

I've seen tons of guys that play and only a handful of girls touch it. Two friends of mine play regularly but they are at the standard heavy crosover right now. I've seen a few girls at my arcade throw down a few 10 footers like they were nothing.

Tell your parents to chill. Why get hungup on whether its for guys or girls? If you like playing it then thats all anyone really needs to know. Don't they want you to be happy, healthy, and entertained? Because that's what its all about.

That being said DDR is truly for everybody. Around by me I find it is slightly more girls that play, but the guys take it more seriously. And here in NY we have many a girl that can kick buttocks on DDR - 10's and all.

I'm a guy, and everyone thinks im homosexual....

The typical stereotype sort of mutated into "Only girls dance so guys are gay if they dance". Of course, its not true since most of the highly skilled players are guys. Most of the girls that played DDR here just bought the pad and game and only played for like 2 months and quit.
Who says guys cant dance!

Oh. and im not gay

Very few games are gender bias.... this is not one of them... if your parents think it is for girls then... well they are wrong the game is aimed at teenagers in general so your parents are well wrong
