peepsluvr, looks like an interesting start. Did you use someone else's plans, or are these your own design? Either way, got a more detailed link? E1.gif

I am using ddrhomepad's design. And what do you mean by more detailed link? A clearer picture?

Hey, since I was bored I made new arrow graphics...

No just kidding, I'm not that much of a ddrfreak. I made these monochromatic graphics for my pads, because I'm using UV lights to make the white glow purple... it looks cool in the dark, I'll put up pics soon. At any rate, take a look, they're yours to use if you want. Two different sets, one set is all white with black arrows and a border, (same graphic just flipped and rotated to get the look I was going for), and the second set is all black with white arrows (again same graphic just flipped, mirrored, etc.). I like the all black with white arrows, my dad likes the other, so it's probably a personal bit. I'll eventually make some like these with the semi circles that I've recently noticed on the official graphics. NOTE: The graphics are 10.5x10.5 I got mine printed at Staples on 11x17in. paper. The graphics are smaller because my pad is smaller... because Lowes can't cut and I had to fix they're job by cutting smaller. LoL.Should work in most of ya'll pads though. Manipulate them all you want, they're fair game.

First, here's what my pads look like (unlit) with the arrow graphics... it's a drawing clearly. I'll get pics when I'm bored and have time.

It didn't look like ddrhomepad's because I thought you had to build the stationary platform first and then the arrow pads to fit. Thought maybe it was of a different design. As far as a detailed link, I just wondered if there were more pics of what you had done. Good luck with it, I'm probably gonna start my own pad soon.

Well, I bought all of the other materials first because the metal is so expensive. I am going to start making the frame now, but it will be wood. I'll get more pics soon.

I really hope you're accurate with a table saw peepsluvr. Since you did the arrows first, you're probably going to have to mess with your corner brackets and the sizes of the panels to make it all fit.

So I'm almost done with my arrows (need to do some sanding to get them to fit perfect... but I was wondering.... do you guys glue the arrow decals to the bottom of the plexiglass, then glues that to the wood arrow panel? or do you leave like a little space around the border of the decal so that you can glue plexiglass to wood?

Yesterday my dad got my arrows printed for me. He works at a commercial printing company, so he got them for free! I'll probably start makeing the frame this weekend. Hopefully the arrows will fit into it...

you dont have to glue the arrows to anything if you dont want to, but if youre going to, leave a space around so you can put the plexi right to the wood.

is there a microswitch that is recommended. I'm not really against the metal, but I read complaints about noise and thought a microswitch might solve some of that?

Do Not Use Microswitches

Patster tried using them a long time ago. Microswitches make an annoying clicking sound and they kept breaking because they aren't durable enough for a DDR pad.

Thanks for the input, ddrhomepad. BTW, your pad looks pretty nice and it was very nice of you to post all the directions to help us newbies out! E1.gif

I thought I saw somebody with the 6 panel corner graphics as well. And one with more authentic looking arcade graphics. Anybody know where these are?

I was able to try out microswitches because I was able to get a lot of them for free. Otherwise, they are probably too expensive to be practical.
It was difficult to get the switches adjusted to the right height to give me the right sensitivity for each arrow. Each switch gives out a fairly loud "click" sound when they are depressed, so when you step on a square, you could hear up to 4 rapid clicks! This gets annoying after a while. The fun part is when the microswitches start failing.
It's best to keep it simple and use indestructible contacts like ddrhomepad's sheetmetal contacts or my adjustable screw w/ metal contact design.

bamn! I'm back!!! yay!!! *dances around* I just got back into DDR at the Asian Culture Day two days ago when a bunch of people asked me to bring my DDR pad to school to raise money and I brought back my love for the crowds....riiight.gif of course the DDR was fun too!

anyway i don't know what you've been listening to but the official arcade pads DO NOT have corner arrows. they have three buttons below the screen to select songs. But if you just want regular arrow graphics, I believe Sinistar has his own customizable arrow site. It's very nice. He separated all the parts of the arrow graphic so that you can choose how you want it your way! I haven't seen him around though....

Grgisme!! thanks again for the help on those riptide graphics. they are awesome...too bad I can't use em. disgust.gif just when I was about to start on my pad, my old one suddenly decided to get back in shape and work! so now I'm using my old CG pad. hopefully it'll last for another year or so. That way I can squeaze all my money's worth out of it!

anyway have you already created a lighting system that is able to work by drawing off the controller power? If so, please post it! I would love to see it when you got it working and i'm sure lots of others would too.

ookay!

For riptide's design again,
Theres nothing wrong about using a "shorter" wood than a 2x4, right? (i've got some nice looking 1x4s..)

Also, Would it work right to use 2x2's for the side boards in the base, so it dosn't extend into the arrows so much?

I know that!

I'm just making sure i'm not goofing over the design completly.

Let me retry - If i were to build the base with shorter wood, it wouldn't interfere with it's ability to work properly, would it?

:-D
