I've had my RedOctane for almost 7 months now and it has no problems at all. I did not mod the pad at all, I play on heavy, I slide quite a bit on some songs, and still absolutely no problems at all.. No cuts, very responsive, no ghost stepping, nothing at all is wrong with mine.. Maybe I'm just lucky. _________________

I think it has something to do with the fact that you have the earlier RO model. The thing is that their production quality seems to have decreased since the time you bought yours. |

It's simple get a roll of grip strip, (latex-ish peg board like material) you can find it at any hardware store with their contact paper for shelving. I got a 12in by 5ft roll for $2.64. cut the roll in half so you have two 2.5 ft strips. open your pad up, take out the foam. Lay the strips so you cover towards the edges of the inside oft he bottom of the pad, replace the foam, MAKE SURE THE FOAM AND THE PAD ARE FLAT!!! Zip it back up and you have a new sturdy pad.
I did this today with my RO ignition pad, the up arrow kept being stuck on. Now it performs better than when I got it new. It's more responsive feels better and barely moves around at all. I played for three and a half hours no problems at all. |
So does that mean that the problem with the up and down arrows is that the foam is too soft? |

I have the red octane ignition 2.0 and it works fine in PS2 mode, but when I hook it to my X-Box the down and right arrows don't work at all. Based on the rave reviews I've been seeing I'm guessing mine isn't a normal situation, but would anyone know of an easy fix/problem source? |

mr_zelda: it's not that the foam is too soft it just moves independent of the rest of the pad. when the foam hits the back of the pad it causes it to bunch up making a gap in the back or front and causing a hit arrow on the other side. I would add to the mod using duct tape on the top half of the foam to make the foam one piece if you have the puzzle piece foam.
I say the top half byecause making the bottom slicker might make the griop strip not work as well. _________________

Strange, I've been noticing the same thing, though only when I go on Xbox Live with Ultramix 1. The pad works fine in normal game mode, but more often than not I go online and I start getting tons of misses. One night, everything was missing so I unplugged the pad, at which point the game suddenly registered 3 perfects and a couple of greats with no pad attached. Tonight I went on Xbox live, and the down arrow started missing, and the other arrows seemed sluggish as well, even when I went offline. I immediately plugged it up to the PS2 and tried it on Max2, and it worked fine. Not sure what causes it, but it has to be some sort of software conflict with Xbox Live. |

Something that's been bugging me about the RO Ignition 2.0: Sometimes I'd be playing and I notice staples poking out of the pad in various places. I'd have to get a pair of tweezers and yank em out. While it hasn't happened to me recently I had to do it on two different occasions. Anyone else encounter this strange phenomenon?

Staples? That's very odd, and kind of disturbing. I have two Vortz Ignition style pads that I bought off eBay, which as far as I can tell are pretty much identical to RO Ignitions except for having an additional two buttons, and I haven't had that problem... yet. I've only had them for about a week so it's quite possible problems could arise later. |

Yeah, its really weird. I haven't experienced that problem recently so I think I'm in the clear but I posted to see if anyone else has ever had that problem??

I can understand that. Like I said, I'll see if I have any such problems in the future and if the thread's still relevant, I'll say something about it if I do. I wonder where the staples would be coming from in the first place. o_o It makes me kind of curious to cut open one of the Vortz pads and see if there are staples in there. |

I've had my RO ignition since Christmas, and just recently encountered an easily fixible problem. The plastic on the inside near the back arrow was ripped, i threw some duct tape on it and it is still working fine. The pad has very good response, and I love it. |

I've had 4 of the RO Ignition pads now and have had failures on 3 of the 4.
I bought all of them from eBgames for $99.95 each so now feel totally ripped off.
Ironically the one pad that hasn't had any problems was the first one purchased about 6 months ago.
The last pad I just got 3 days ago and started having problems with the down arrow the day after I got it. This is the same failure as the other 2 pads.
One of the pads ripped inside from use. It was very odd. Looked like a slice.
Perhaps my 220 lbs is too much for these pads.
Regardless, a 75% failure rate is extremely high and I would avoid these for anyone of heavy stature.
I just pumped out another $414 for a couple of metal pads. Hopefully the TX-3000's will be better than these. |

This happened to my Ignition... I got it from playing faster heavy songs on it and moving faster. It was really weird... _________________

What's really strange is that the down arrow is now completely dead on my RO, but only on the Xbox. Last night I played for a bit on PS2, it worked fine, then I plugged it up to my Xbox, and it missed every single time for the down arrows. I hooked it back up to my PS2, and everything worked fine. I have Max and Max2, so I do have plenty of songs to play, but it's frustrating that it won't work on Ultramix anymore.
I bought the one year warranty at EB, so I suppose I could take it back, but I'd rather not waste the warranty until it doesn't work on any of my consoles. |

The 3 failures with the down arrows on my pads were all intermittent.
If I was on a left or right arrow when I tried to hit the down arrow it would either not see it or it would be late.
However, if I'm in the center or even on an up arrow, the down arrow works fine. I'm not sure what the cause of this could be. I've seen other posts that indicate the wires go through the center and can break over time but this isn't caused by that.
I don't have a playstation to try it out with but it's interesting to hear that it sometimes on affects one console. |

I have a question to anybody that encountered the "phantom steps on extreme" problem. Were you aware that the X, O, Triange and Square buttons give off a step if stepped on and there is no way on Extreme to turn off the problem (though in Max and Max2 you can turn it off), and if so, does the problem persist with the pad malfunctioning? I'm concerned about this because I'm buying an ignition pad on friday from EB and I don't want it to not work (though they offer a 5 dollar warrenty for the whole year).
To anyone who encounters the phantom step problem, download the save file from this site (through songlists) that turns off the other buttons like X and O (its the only way to shut it off) during a song and see if the problem continues. |

My Red Octane Ignition 2.0 just broke. The first one I had I got way back in 2004. It lasted quite awhile and the down arrow stopped working. So I took it back to the store and lied saying I just bought it. After arguing with the manager of Best Buy for a good ten minutes they took it back. I said I lost my receipt. I think he finally gave in because Iâm 6' 8" and weigh a good 300 pounds, and scared the hell out of him. Then this one stopped working after just a month. Thankfully I got my tax returns and ordered a Cobalt Flux last week. Long story short don't buy this piece. They use to be good then recentaly they must have changed something in the design, because now they suck.

Does weight really impact the life of these pads? I'm only about 145 pounds, so do you think this will last if I got it? Another thing, are any of you guys wearing shoes on these things? |

I weight a solid 265. I had my Red Octane for a year now and I have experienced no problems. I believe that if u take really good care of the pad and put it up when its not in use then u shouldnt have a problem.
If not then ur gonna have an unresponsive and arrows that stick. Trust me my cuzin had those problems. |
