Constant Speed mods.
They scroll the arrows at a constant BPM, which is the number after the C. It ignores all pauses and slowdowns/speedups of the song's BPM. |

Hit Escape to pull up one of the menus, then pick "Edit Steps Statistics". I don't remember the exact wording on it, but it's the (if I remember right) third option down. The one you can highlight that has a number across from it, basically. For added reference, right below that, Stepmania gives you a suggested rating to consider. _________________

My friend just downloaded StepMania. However, she has a problem. When she clicks on the shortcut, the window opens, but it freezes and it shows that it's not responnding. I tried to help her, but I can't figure out what's wrong. |

^try uninstalling reinstalling. If it's windows I can't help you though, sorry.
I have a problem of my own. For some reason whenever I have a situation involving a jump freeze arrow, so two buttons are held down, then a third note is coming up, the third arrow does not register, like I can only hold down two keys at a time. Same goes for a three or four arrow jump. The strange thing is I can hold down a left-right jump and hit the up arrow, like in Delirium at the beginning, but I can not hold down an up-down jump and hit left or right. As for hitting a four arrow jump, it's just impossible, my system does not allow it at all. I'm sorry if that sounded very confusing, but any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. _________________

i have the same problem, but what i do is just take my fingers off the key and hit the one thats coming up. example, im holding an up right jump, and an down left jump is coming, i take my fingers off the freeze, hit the other jump like its a 16th note, and go back to the freeze before it dies. works every time. with three or four note jumps, its the same thing. just hit the jump like its two spererate 16th notes, and you'll get it, but it usually registers as a great. _________________

|
|
Hello,
My family and I are new stepmania users and really enjoy it. Thanks to all the developers. I am trying to make non-stop courses and running in to the following troubles:
One, I figured out how to make a non-stop course, but random in a group. However, we are all new and can only handle light mode on most songs and a few songs on standard. My questions are:
1) Is there a way to make a random sequence of songs with preset difficulties for the individual songs?
Some are too easy on light and some are still to hard for us on standard. I would be able to say song 1-light, song 2-medium, etc. BUT random within that group. I figured out how to do it with a set sequence of songs, but not random within the group with different difficulties
I thought I could make my song list and then put some kind of #random command in the list of songs, but each time I change the setting through the stepmania interface to "repeat yes, random yes" it doesn't seem to save it and only keeps the "repeat yes"
2) Is there a way to make a non-stop course with different difficulties for two players? one light and standard modes, and the other beginning and light?
Thanks! |

Consult the readme that came with Stepmania, it describes how to do exactly what you want, plus lots of other nifty stuff.
A random song:
#SONG:*: (<difficulty>|<meter range>):<modifiers>;
example: #SONG:*:MANIAC;
example: #SONG:*:8..10:1.5x,reverse; |

Thanks, but there a couple of tihngs I still dont' understand from that readme.
If I pick a random song within the group, I don't see how to tell it which songs to play on light and which ones on standard. I see a meter range (which I assume is how many 'feet' show up when you are looking at songs), but there are some songs that I can do with a higher meter than others, and if I pick a range I end up with some songs on standard mode that I can only do in light mode and the course ends when I fail. If I pick too low, I get them all on light which doesn't allow me to work on the ones I can do standard on.
That's why I made a list of songs with their modifiers (light, standard) and made a course with them. That works,however, I thought I could also make it stepmania choose the next song randomly from the list instead of always having the same order. However, that, I can't figure out.
Also, I don't see any option to allow the two players to be on different difficulty levels for the course. So, they both have to be equally matched. There is not a way to change your difficulty when the next song appears manually is there?
So, In summary
1) I don't see how to make stepmania pick a random song from a group or list of songs, WITH preselected difficulty song by song.
2) Can stepmania allow two player courses with different difficulty settings?
3) Is there a manual way to change your difficulty while doing a course song by song?
4) Finally is ther a way to make a new group of songs without copying the songs to a new directory? For example, I have ddr mix 4, mix 6, etc and i want to make a 'favorites' folder. The only way I see to do that is to make a new folder called favorites, in songs, and then copy (dupilicating the whole file) into the new directory. |

Please tone down on the smileys.
Listen. Download the latest version of SMOnline from the official forums located at http://forums.system-online.net/ , and when it's installed, run the shortcut on your desktop that starts with "SMOnline", not "StepMania" (so it will autoconnect you to the server). Then you should be set.
Also, make sure to bring your songs over to your new install, and remember to make a forum account or else you cant play. |
i went there, says there's no website. wtf?! |

I'll try and help as much as I can!
1) If you mean you want Stepmania to revert to 'X' difficulty everytime 'Y' song comes up in a random choice, I don't think it can be done like that. The closest thing would be something like:
#SONG:favorites/*:3..5;
Where it would just choose songs out of a favorites folder and put them into a difficulty between 3 and 5 feet.
UNLESS you put the songs you wanted into a favorites folder, and then went into the step files and deleted all the difficulties you didn't want to play. Then it would have no choice but to choose the appropriate level.
2) Not that I'm aware of.
3) I'm using the KatzeExtreme theme, and you can bump the difficulty of the songs up or down while selecting the course by pressing UP twice or DOWN twice. Just like you can change your difficulty while in regular song mode.
4) Copying the songs over is the only way at this point. (Again, as far as I know) |

I have a problem with SM.
I recently aquired some backround animations. I had the BGAnimations set to "Visualizations" and the visualizations are in the proper folder. However, when the song starts, I see a faint image of the animations in the backround on top of the initial backround. (EX: The Spike Balls on Max 300 are an top of the Max 300 backround.) How do I make the initial backround go away? _________________

It's showing up like that because you have your movies in the wrong folder. Everything should be moved to the "RandomMovies" (I think. I can't exactly double check it right now, but it's something like that) folder, and set the background option to "RandomMovies".
Also, thanks for giving me an idea. That sounds like it might be interesting to try later on. _________________

After you download the songs as well as their DWI, banner, and background files, make a file in the Songs folder in the Stepmania folder on your hard drive. Add the folders containing the songs into the Songs folder. |
