Sorry if it's already been suggested.

Other forums do allow these "Forum Games" (things like the Person Above Me Game), and I was curious if you mods here have considered making a separate forum just for people who want to play these (admittedly mindless, but still something to do) games.

If necessary and possible (I'd suggest it), prevent post counts from going up in that forum (in order to prevent posting just for straight postwhoring reasons). I'm...pretty sure you guys have that kind of capacity, although I wouldn't know how much trouble you'd have to go through to implement it.

And I'm pretty sure some members have qualms with each other; I'd like to suggest a forum for such things, specifically to let off steam/insult people within some manner of reason (I hate to reference examples, but, like GameWinners.com's "Thunderdome" forum). This would prevent flaming in other threads, as it would give it a designated place to go.

Perhaps you have/could/would/should consider(ed) these? For one, I'd be a little happier if these two things were implemented into our forums.

We've considered a forum game forum, including the removal of postcount++ in that forum.

But it would still encourage rampant postwhoring, which would be a hit to the ol' bandwidth.

No, it would not. It would be like the old flame forum we had, where it worked at first but then spilled everywhere.

I'm happy to see that you didn't just jump on me and say "no," but rather understood that I haven't been here forever and explained why. You used good reasoning, too (as I should, of course, expect from a forum admin).

This is why I love the mods here so much. They don't murder people (they just tell people to read the FAQ; if ignored again, then they murder people).

So, uh...nevermind then. This thread can now just slowly make its way down and never be seen again, or get locked. Whichever is better for the health of the forum.

Do tell these stories. I love hearing stories about how stupid people are.

Ooh, I have lots of those. (I teach math at the freshman level at a university.)

I think it would be a cool idea if you just took off the postcount++, because then there would really be no point. As for the bandwidth, couldn't you just delete topics every now and then since it's all pointless chatter? Like have a rule saying "If a topic has reached x amount of pages and has no apparent reason or future, it will be locked and soon deleted." The deletion would work, say once it hit the 3rd page. Since there would be all locked topics from there on, every month or something you could delete the last 50 or something.

*shrug* My too sense.

That wouldn't remove the bandwidth issue at all. If 500 people read a thread and then it's deleted, they still accessed it. If we had an entire forum for postwhoring forum games, let it run for a month and then deleted it, that bandwidth was still used.

if its that big a deal, go to invisionfree.com and register to get a free forums and then put your thingamajig there. much like my sig. this way, it wont hurt the ppl behind this site. but then again it would have to be an "official" ddr freak thing or else no one would go.

Oh. I guess someone needs to learn a little more about how the internet works ponder.gif

Was that sarcasm? Because my BS meter is off the charts here.

I don't think that was sarcasm... I think GeeForce272 was referring to himself by saying "someone"... unless I'm wrong.

All I know is that hax0rs sometimes steal my megahertz. I should buy more RAM to counteract that.

Yeah, even if the posts were deleted after a while, that doesn't solve the problem that people are posting in that forum and using that area. The only problem it would solve is the issue of hard space.

A separate board's been suggested (Maxx 999), but I doubt you mods would feel it'd be right to get an entire new board just for one forum. blink.gif

Point is, it'd be a nice feature, but it'd be costly (in more ways than one) to implement. There're always other forums to play these Forum Games in anyway.
