If you're not even playing Heavy yet, why would you want to start with 8's? Start with 6's and 7's and see how it goes.

I have been doing 6s and 7s for a while now and they are getting boring in all honesty. I can do most of them with a B if not a A. Should I start doing Heavy 7s and stuff?

Hi,

What's the problem? is it stamina based, reading skills, specific songs you are getting stuck at? Are there certain arrow patterns that you have difficulty getting correctly or just fail on?

If we can get some more specifics, then we(I) would be more than glad to help you out E13.gif

Also concerning Ska A Go Go on standard. Is it better to have ghost steps almost through out the entire song (mostly the begining) or everywhere cept the streams at the end?

Hi,

Definitely. It may seem more difficult and/or tiring, but in the long run it'll help you out in many aspects. Also, you can start to play other great songs ;D, like break down E15.gif (okay, it's a 9 footer, but who's counting happy.gif). If you have any problems, just post back here and we'll see what we can do to help you out. Also, if you have broadband, I can now video record certain songs for people and show body and/or feet to help people out with specific songs E1.gif. --Just something to note

As for the ghost steps, I'd say no for either. Ghost steps aren't good no matter where they are. If it's due to a pad, I'd suggest getting a new one, or modding it (though it'd be in the best interest to get a new pad and mod that one E13.gif).

How would you have ghost steps in just the beginning or through out the entire song???

cross steps, practice practice. Songs like PARANOiA Survivor have alot of cross steps. Songs like the easier paranoia's, exotic ethnic, eotc, twinbee, freckles. the only cross step i have a problem with is in PS when it goes like. LULURURURU because in that part, im normally holding hte bar with both hands so i cant really twist that way.

Sure you can! It might feel weird but you can definitely bar-rape just about any crossover patterns (hello Oasis on ITG). Practice doing it, keeping your hands on the bar is the best way. Letting go of the bar isn't such a great idea in my experience, it's easy to mess up when you're trying to grab it again.

yeah, you can definetely bar rape/use the bar during that section of Paranoia Survivor. At the moment, that's what I do as the twists do take a lot of energy. Also, try using the bar with only one arm to allow more movement. I find it easier to use one hand myself, and it allows more of my center of balance rather than depending on the bar fully too biggrin.gif .

I found out what I was doing wrong with Paranoia Survivor at the last run. What was actually happening was that I was hitting the arrows faster than they were actually coming up. This wasn't something that I noticed until a few days ago riiight.gif . Also, I've hit a point where I'm greatly improving, and stamina is one that has much improved. I can't say too much other than I can do 3 Max runs in a row without much of a problem biggrin.gif . I do suggest to other people though who want fast improvement to try and practice between 1-4 hours when they do play. Then give 1-2 days of rest before playing again.

Well, there haven't really been that many posts lately, so I can't offer much in the way for advice frown.gif.

Just make sure to do some workouts at home. Sit ups for your stomach muscles and squats for your leg muscles help out a lot. Also, standing on your tippie toes for a long time helps out with calfs. By the way, is there anyone who is good at the song Witch Doctor? it goes... oo eee oo ah ah.. tang tang walla walla bing bang. That's a cool song to dance to, it's just you have to step very fast when you hear "walla walla bing bang".

When trying to learn hard songs... turn on handclaps and play it over and over and over for a few hours. this really helped me in Leading Cyber heavy, i was unable to tell when to step because the steps were so spread out and confusing. now when I go to the arcade I actually hear the claps in my head so i know when to step, like "Clap-clap-clap" or "Clap-clap-pause-clap-clap-clap"

Works miracles for me.

Hi, a lot of you have posted that SM helps improve the arcade game play a lot, and I couldn't agree more, but some (few) here do not agree (and I MIGHT know why). I'm not sure if anyone mention this (I did not see it mentioned in the previous few pages of posts), but I think HOW you play on SM is also a big factor to your success at the real arcade.

When I first played SM, I used 2 hands, 2 fingers on each hand for each arrow, and I could AA just about any song any difficulty, even those that have hands and quads cuz there's a finger for each arrow, but I found that that did not improve my game play at arcade AT ALL (or at least very little... only on faster Reading speed).

Now (i.e. ever since I found out 4 finger SM was no good), I use 1 finger on each hand to play SM, so 1 finger on Left hand and 1 finger on Right, and they act like how I would play each song on arcade as if they were my feet, so I would do cross-overs with my fingers even on the keyboard, that seriously got things going... and passed PS on 2nd try (1st fail was due to lack of stamina).

*a side note though, learning how to double step while PAing is as important as learning how to crossover.
**2nd side note, someone a couple of pages back mentioned learning crossing over on quarter notes... and mentioned that it was a bit silly. On Single, it might SEEM silly, but then on Double Play, it is merely (almost always) good practice to cross over to the Center of the stage whenever you can... So, point I'm trying to make is, playing Double can ALSO help you learn crossovers, just try not to double-step your way from one pad to the next, and when u go back to Single, it should be much easier.

Playing SM with the assist tick on is also a nice help. After you learn the beat to the steps of the song, you can then practice getting the steps right. The problem with most people playing DDR and progressing to that "peak" is that they screw up because they don't know when to hit what steps because they don't listen to both their feet AND the music, but just the music. If you listen to others' feet when they hit the pad to songs such as The legend of MAX, it sounds much different then what some would picture because all they see is arrows and not the spacing between them. THAT, however would be a speed reading thing. The two biggest pieces of advice I could give a player that's just starting on DDR or is just beginning heavy: TURN & STEP AND LISTEN would be those things. If you don't turn, you'll never get crossovers EVER. and if you don't step and listen, you'll get a horrible PA. PAing is the next subject, ALWAYS GO FOR THE PA BEFORE YOU TRY FOR THE FC. If you constantly try to FC a song and your PA is bad, you won't get it. The better your PA is, the easier a FC will come your way. Take the below picture of my LoM score that I took today playing on my metal pad:

It's taken me a while to get to that point. But the real reason I'm at that point is because I did the above. And then some....However, the only thing I have left to add to the above is, PLAY WITH SOMEONE WHO IS BETTER THAN YOU ON THE SAME DIFFICULTY. USE THEIR METHODS (IF CORRECT) AND PRACTICE WITH A HOME VERSION. Now you're thinkin' "But no one cares what I can pass at home". That's because you would benifit much from putting the judge difficulty at 6-8. Then, if you make a mistake, you won't be coming back just like that. Once you can consistantly pass that hard song on an 8 difficulty with a C, at the arcade (which usually has the difficulty set at 4) you would probably obtain a B or better if you do well. (more or less so of your home version scores).

Well, that's my 2 cents.

I need to know how to double step really fast and keep a good PA on songs like Healing Vision (Angelic mix). Also foot speed... stamina is fine, my feet just won't move fast enough. If I go into Training Mode and put the speed to 1, I can AAA MAX 300, but if I turn up the speed anywhere past 3 I can't keep up. Also the 16th notes on V (for Extreme) Oni.

I'm a heavy player, and I'm horrible at PAs, any tips to help me get more perfects? Oh, and as for your problem, I would practice songs with 16ths, but kinda slow songs, and also, try stutter-stepping in place (y'know, like, stepping left and right as fast as possible)

Ok, i'm going to have to be anal or something... but from what i'm seeing in that picture, you don't have a metal pad and you played that on the controller. I'm not trying to put you down, but i can perfectly see that you did that on the controller. How? Well, first of all, you can see that reflection of when you took it and i can clearly see a bed and you sitting on it. Not only that, but i notice a controller being held on the very left of the picture. SO, therefore, if your bed is THAT close, then there is no way that you could have fit the metal dance pad in there.

Yet, again, i'm not trying to put you down or question your abilities, but i do notice everything in a picture and etc... so, just to point something out to all the ddr players.

O yeah, that is DDR extreme that you're playing (dduuuuhhhhh!) and, well, it's the home version and not all people can afford a metal dance pad. But if you can, kudos for you thumb.gif

One last thing, if you could get a video of you doing that, then that would help. I realize it's hard to get the same results, but since you did so well, i'm sure you can get just as close, right? E13.gif

Hope to get a response from you soon E4.gif

I give him props, I suck horribly at controller ddr and stepmania. I can pass max 300 on my feet, but not with the controller laugh.gif

I bear witness to a lot of people trying for the sole persuit of AAA's as opposed to overall skill. That's not a good way to get better. AAA's are a good representation of PA with x amounts of greats, but honestly someone that has like 35 AAA's and say 200/256 AA's shouldn't be going for them. I didn't get my first AAA until I had like 165 or so AA's, and I fluked it. I've always thought that eliminating weaknesses is the best way to get better. I'm getting to the point where AAA's are just coming out and they're not as hard anymore.

Hey! Hey! Hey! I like what this guy said. Eliminating weaknesses is the only way to put your controller to rest. Now I use a controller only as a last result. Finally death to my "Controlleritis"
