And just because DDR hasn't seen a Japanese arcade mix in over two years does not mean its "dead". By that logic, Midway apparently "gave up the ghost" on Mortal Kombat after MK4 when they took a break for a couple of years, later coming back with MK: Deadly Alliance and MK: Deception. The franchise is STILL ALIVE AND KICKING, PEOPLE. Its just on the home markets these days.

This is not to say that I'm harping on ITG, however. I also fall into the "no arcade machine within a 500 mile radius of my current location" category, and I am curious to see what gameplay it has to offer. I can't say its a good or a bad game without playing it. That's ignorant.

But really, all this hype and word-of-mouth is ridiculous. I'm sure it isn't BAD, but I'm also sure that it isn't the savior of the music games genre either.

El Mullet-- I love you love.gif Sums up my similar feelings so, so well.

I see both bad and good in ITG. The home version has me curious, certianly. What certianly is interesting is that this is going to be a big year for home dance games between this, Pump it Up, and although it hasn't been announced officially, I think Extreme 2 & Ultramix 3 or whatever they'll be, are givens. And lets not forget DDR with Mario and the possibility it could be a factor in the US later this year (although yes, nothing official yet... that's all half speculation half wishful thinking E1.gif )

The PS2 version DOES have an Edit mode.

Are you absolutely sure about that? You might want to ask Cutriss here on DDRFreak. As I understand it, there really hasn't been any kind of formal agreement/understanding/anything reached between Roxor and Konami concerning ItG. All Roxor did was set the default scroll on ItG to "hallway" or whatever to step around Konami's 4 scroling arrows format, though whether or not that really skirts a copyright infringement issue is up for debate, but my honest guess is no. So far, Konami has either: not noticed ItG, not cared, or not acted...yet.

I wouldn't be entirely certain that Konami would go after RedOctane if they had a problem with ItG either. RO makes some popular products that compliment Konami's games, and the loss of RO's pads on the market would likely tick off a lot of dancing game players. If Konami decideds to ever do anything, they're going for Roxor Games (the developers/creators of ItG), not RedOctane (the publisher).

Another point to consider is if ItG for the PS2 actually has SCEA's license for disdribution and use on their system. If you don't know what I'm getting at, think back to the days of the NES when companies like Tengen and Wisdom Tree/Color Dreams were peddling their games from the shadows, stores terrified of Nintendo's wrath if they dared to sell games that did not receive the "Nintendo Seal of Approval," Nintendo's proof of a license for a game to be used on their system. Sony may not be as picky as say, Nintendo, but I wouldn't be so sure that ItG is going to be as "legitimate" as a game you could pick up in EB or Gamestop versus one you have to order direct from RedOctane. I'd much rather see the game on a store shelf.

The "DDR Concept" is a US patent. Whether or not a lawsuit would go through, well, I think that would lie entirely with the judge. It's a gray area, but I have faith that Roxor has dealt with the issues they face (for now). I know that was why there was a conscious effort to keep ItG songs 1:50-2:10 in length, to differentiate from DDR songs which rarely breach 2 minutes and average around 1:30.

Anyways, yeah, it's gonna be one hell of an awesome year, I'll say! DDR, PIU:E, maybe even a new DDR... I must say, it's going to be quite the competition. But the best part is, us rhythm game fans are all winners in this! Perhaps KCET will feel the heat. Looking forward to playing In The Groove, especially since I can't get enough of the Missing Heart songs and adore some of the others.

Oh, and Foy, you are my hero for confirming Edit features, and the presence of arcade timings. :P

I find this unexpected and pretty cool. Right when I saw the announcement about Red Octane publishing games, it never crossed my mind that they'd be doing this. Heh. Also, I haven't tried In the Groove yet. There are two locations in my state that have the game but I have trouble finding the time to drive out to either of them. I've also never played Pump it Up, but unlike some frighteningly obsessed DDR players I'd like to try both. In the coming months I'll be able to play both of them at home. Only thing is I need a second job to afford them. laugh.gif

Actually, they did have to go through Sony for this one. It is an offical game, and it will be available through distribution through the regular channels.

Mad Catz released MC Groovz as an officially licensed Gamecube product, and I don't see any reason why Red Octane should have trouble getting a publishing license from Sony. Granted, Sony and Nintendo are two very different companies, but their licensing systems are basically the same. If ITG gets through Sony's QA criteria, they should get their license. Unless, of course, Konami interferes and somehow persuades Sony not to grant RO the license.

Maybe ITG will become the craze like DDR did in Japan back in 1998. Just imagine......

-10 or so arcade mixes
-around 5 or 6 arcade ports and a few originals
-Japan will get only 3 different versions, and whore out stolen imported arcade/console versions

It's glorious.

Well, that's good news for ItG fans. I'm not one, admittedly. The music hasn't impressed me much. I don't see the variety some people talk about. It all sounds the same to me, kind of like a lot of what Naoki does on DDR. The steps...I think are on the order of UM1 song packs or worse. Yeah, that's just my opinion, but that's the way I see it. I especially have gripes with some of the Expert difficulty stepcharts, though I know they're for godly players who want more challenge, it's still servicing a tiny portion of the fanbase and probably alienating a much larger portion. There is no need to have such rediculously hard step patterns for songs in the 120-150 BPM range. Honestly, how many beginner or even intermediate players aren't turned off by the air of elitism that ItG puts on? I believe it is for similar reasons that Konami hasn't really tried to push their most popular rhythm game here in the states, Beatmania (II DX). The learning curve is amazingly steep on that game; it's very daunting to get into. I'm not so sure ItG will have the mass appeal of DDR or even PUI on the home market. PUI is still beating ItG on arcade distribution. Actually, as far as competition goes, I'm much more excited about trying out the upcoming US home version of PUI. Is it going to have any delicious Korean pop or will it be largely Americanized?

Oh, and I know I'm kind of raining on the parade, but I'm sure you ItG loyalists have a thick enough skin to put up with this, right? E1.gif

ok, i must say this sounds unbelievably amazing. i love ITG (though i completely suck on expert mode...hard i can handle np, thank you DDR). but do we have any signs of a release date yet? i'm going to reserve this one. thanks

Awesome! When I read the announcement yesterday about RO publishing a game, I expected another MCGroovz-esque game to whore out more of their peripherals. It will be nice to play the true game, and not the stepmania edits on pc/xbox. I'm anxious to see what Konami does, now that the burner has been cranked up a notch by Roxor and Andamiro have kicked it up a notch. And to all those anti-ITG types: at least it wasn't EZ2DANCER!

Dang, I can't wait for this game! This game is simply going to rock! I'm going to be so freaking poor after getting my iPod Photo 30 gig with all that stuff, Pump it Up: Exceed, and then In The Groove!

If Roxor was smart, they'd also keep the same arcade layout and port most - if not all - of the songs to console. Foy confirmed an exact arcade conversion of the timing windows, which was definitly a step in the right direction.

These guys know what CS players want, and we can only hope they're going to deliver on it all.

I still haven't played ITG yet, but now there are machines closer than 8otB. There's one in a movie theatre in Hadley, MA for example. ITGF has a machine locator if anyone wants to go check it out.

I think I'm gonna buy this one when it comes out. Even though I haven't actually played ITG yet I've been following it with screenshots, movies, and in forums since before the first game was released. And from what I've seen, the ITG team has actually done some original things with their game. Unlike a certain other non-DDR non-ITG dance game. So I'm going to be buying this pretty much to see if I like ITG or not. "So this game had better not suck." E13.gif (I say that to myself before every purchase.)

As for legal issues that Konami might raise....has anyone actually tried to read the patents that KoJ got back in 1999? Go check them out people. But good luck reading all the legalese. laugh.gif

Then consider the fact that PIU and now ITG are coming out for the PS2. If Konami was going to do something to block the distribution of ITG and other dance games via a lawsuit, Konami doesn't have much time to act.

Finally...Well, hey, to those who hate ITG, don't buy it. Don't play it. This is exactly like people complaining when they heard that King of Fighters was coming out with YET ANOTHER INSTALLMENT, or that it was coming over to the PS2 so that their shrine to Capcom might be sullied. Or those who hate Virtua Fighter (Tekken) because Tekken (Virtua Fighter) is so much better.

In short, silly banter on an Internet forum.

Glad to see foyboy posting on DDR Freak answering easy questions on ITG's port to the PS2.

One big thing ITG has going for it is that the staff are imbedded in the community and play many music games (not just DDR, PiU, IIDX). Because of this we can react to what you want and what you don't want.

To those of you who don't like things, want differant things (music, steps, mods, modes, whatever) PM me or make a thread about these things.

I do listen and have changed things in the past. My work is for all of us to have more fun.

This thread is not the place for this, so again, PM, or make a new thread with any suggestions that would make the game more enjoyable for you.

Now back to our regurlar schedualed topic.
