Have you ever considered issuing suspensions from the board for a certain period of time (1-2 weeks, for example) for certain offenses when warning points really wouldn't do much good? _________________

I thought we had that on the old boards, or I could be thinking of somewhere else. Either way it's from long before I became a moderator.
First was "private warning", then "public warning" then a couple of suspensions (day, month, week?) then a ban. _________________

I think it might be a worthwhile tool. Maybe an idea is that a suspension could only be administered by a member of the site staff or administration and not just by a mod. (More of a check-and-balances thing.) |

We used to do it, and got rid of it with the warning system. It wasn't very effective. _________________

Could you restrict them so they could only view specific forums?
One other site I went to had that. If you got so many points, you were sent to a rehibilition (sp) forum that continusely looped the Banana Phone song, and were taught how to not be a idiot.
I just like the Banana Phone song, is all. |

Well, that's certainly a unique idea... |

Wait... you listened to a loop of Banana Phone to learn how NOT to be an idiot? Someone had some strange logic... |
No, I wasn't sent there. The site is www.offtopic.com.
I quit going there because you got bitched at for not having an avatar. You had to buy the right to have an avatar, and it was $6. So I said no, and let my account expire, then came back to the warmth and loving kindness that is DDRFreak. |

I remember being at Off Topic for awhile. If you weren't reloading every 10 seconds most threads would fall off the page.
I was actually there before that avatar thing. But then they closed registration and made you have to apply for membership. Then for some reason my account was disabled (I had still been posting/logging in enough) and I never had any desire to go back. _________________

Suspensions probably wouldn't be very effective; people would just come back and spam/flame/etc. some more. I doubt that many would get the point. The warning points system isn't perfect, but it's probably the closest to effectiveness we can get.
What about if the person's posting privileges were restricted? Like the posting limitations applied to beginner members would be applied as a punishment for a certain period of time? |

that sounds interesting, at least to me
maybe we could have people with 8 points having a restriction on x posts per day
dunno what the others admins and mods would think about it, though _________________

If they're at 8 points and they still can't control themselves? They probably deserve to be banned anyway. There is a LOT of leeway in our current system for people to screw up, and it definitely takes some trying to get banned. _________________
