You are playing an NTSC(usa and japan region) game on a PAL(europe+much of the world region) ps2. From your symptoms I can see that your TV supports NTSC but since you're playing it on a PAL ps2 the signal is off. The only way to fix that is getting a modchip or a usa/japanese ps2 or ps1.

Actually, your games are likely NOT playing correctly. The signals will be off with all the games. PAL runs at 25 (50) fps while NTCS runs at 30 (60) fps. So all of your NTSC games on your modded PS are running at the wrong speed visually (either slightly slower or slightly faster than normal, it's too late at night to figure out which right now). However, the difference is slight for most games so you probably don't notice. For a game like DDR where the synchronization of the visuals and the sounds is fundamental to the gameplay, it makes a huge difference that is easy to spot.

ok, i was surfing, looking for the best prices on swap magic disks, and i came across this site that offered the swap magic dvd only, i thought nothing of it at the time, but i realize now, that the dvd is all i want, if anyone knows of this link, it would be extremely helpful if you posted it

if you don't like how theres no matching cd tray frontal casing, then wait a little bit since they are proposing to start production of those and the drive bezels.

again, the super clear ones are made out of cd case material, don't buy those because they can break really easily. ex. splitting in half when you're screwing it together

I was wondering. Does the anti-modchip programming in 4th Mix and 5th Mix interfere with trying to play the game using a flip-top or a slide card?

It doesn't although I don't believe the PS1 boot disc can play 5th mix. 4th mix runs fine however.

My PS-X-Change Version 2 disc plays 5th mix just fine, I use it fairly often, I just need to find my PSOne again.

Okay, I just installed my fliptop, but I've encountered a few problems.

-> When I load up any disc, you can hear the motor quite loudly, and you can hear the disc spin really fast. After a few seconds, this weird noise comes out of the PS2, so of course... I turn it off.
-> At first I thought I broke my PS2 somehow, but I replaced the white magnet disc in the original tray cover and put it back on, and the discs loaded up fine.
-> I transfered the white disc back into the fliptop, and same thing. Weird noises, and it didn't load.

Any clues as to what's wrong? In case the distributor has anything to do with it, I got my cover from consolesource.com.

Edit: Okay, I think the problem is that the flip cover isn't heavy enough. I have to push down on it for any discs to load. I got a backup working, but the success rate so far has been 2 out of 10 times. Wow, people made the fliptop sound so easy... Anyone know of a solution so I don't have to push down or why the boot rate sucks?

I ordered my flip top so long ago i cant even remember when. I got it from ps2cover.com. Has anyone else gotten anything from that site and if you did, did it take FOREVER to come. My CF comes on friday (hopefully) and if that comes before the flip top thats just sad.

I'll answer the past three posts:

PSX-Change doesn't work with ps2. can someone confirm this?

Try tightening the screws in the disc tray area, that fixed it for me. Don't do it super tight though.

PS2Cover stuff takes a while to come but it's a legit site, as i've stated quite a few times. been using their fliptop for over a year now and my ps2 is still good as new.

Making Backups... How?

I would really like to make backups of all of my Japanese DDR games (and American for that matter) because I host a DDR club at school and people are less than careful with the game discs. I was wondering what software I would need to burn a backup copy of these games. Also, what DVD recording brand works best? I have a fliptop with swapmagic 3 so supposedly I can play backups/burns/imports.

Another question...
Can I play Ps1 JAP games (such as 1st mix) on my American PS2 with swapmagic 3? Some tell me you can while some say no.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You will need a DVD-burner and some blank DVD-Rs (+Rs work for some of the newer PS2 models). For the CD games, a CD burner will also work, and of course... you need CD-Rs. It's better to go for the higher quality discs (ex. Taiyo Yuden, TDK, Verbatim), since the PS2 has a hard time reading the low-quality ones and it's no fun having freezes while you're playing.

I think Max2 and Extreme are DVD games, and Max and Party Collection are CD games. You may want to double check since I'm not sure.

From what I've tested, the way that's worked the best for me for DVD games is:
1) Download DVD Decrypter and Alcohol 120%.
2) Insert the PS2 DVD game, run DVD Decrypter.
3) Change destination to where you want the disc image.
4) Click the Decrypt button.
5) When that's done, take out your game and put in the DVD-R (blank). Run Alcohol 120% and click "Burn an image file" or something like that.
6) Find your the ISO of the game and burn at the lowest speed possible.
7) It SHOULD work. If not, try a higher quality media.

I'm not so sure about the CD games, but you could probably do a direct copy with Alcohol 120%. I think selecting "Skip Reading Errors" is a good idea.

About the PSX games, you technically can, but you will need a PSX boot disc, such as a Gameshark Lite or the PSX disc for a GS2 or AR2. If you don't have any of those, then there is no way to play them.

DVD+R is just a different DVD format from -R. -R has the highest compatability, and the older PS2 models cannot read +R. So for these reasons I would advise you to get DVD-R discs.
