i prefer the arcade over home. the home definitely has its advantages. great sound system, "home-field-advantage," not bar in the way. But at the arcade you have the metal pads, this way you know if you are hitting the arrows. the sensors are more sensitive to the feet. and how can you go wrong with the music blaring and noone to say it is too loud. thumb.gif

You get used to that after a while. I know - I hated it at first, too. But after a while, I stayed on the arrows without having to look down or anything.

Also, a Metal Pad fixes this problem if you don't feel like getting used to soft pads

Certainly for competive play this shouldn't really be a question right? The arcade has tighter timing windows and more accurate pads, of course it's going to be better.

I have never played in the arcade where I live before. I have played in North Carolina and in California but not in Tennessee. Anyways, I'm always playing at home almost everyday. I have a metal pad and I have been able to A some of my songs and B the rest. I have Konamix if you're wondering and you, from what I know, can't make above an A.

I dont think you can make abover an A my friend has it and the higest score he got was only an A now on the newer versions you can get up to AAA but you got to get a PERFECT on every step. What system do you have only a playstation you should get a PS2 if you dont have one. E15.gif

I only have a playstation and I can't get a PS2 till my birthday which is in September. I doubt I will get one then but umm.. Yeah, I played at the arcade for the first time in Tennessee yesterday. I passed Holic with an A my first try, but Holic is one of my favorite songs, and I failed one song and passed the rest with B's.. I guess it's alright but I should get better the more I play at the arcade..I do like the arcade better then the home because you where I play, people can help you and they actually know what they are talking about.

For now, arcade.

However, I've got stepmania on xbox, its on arcade timing now, and my cobaltflux is here this week. Additionally I'm building a DDR style cabinet for style.

Once thats done, home allllll the way.

The problem being even in that setup, that a cobalt flux and the conditions badly condition you to play competitively.

I prefer playing DDR at the arcade, cause I like to practice doubles on pads that don't slide. And I like the variety of music in the arcade better than the home versions. So, yeah, I like arcade DDR better.

The home version is a lot easier for me, the pads don't tire me out as much, but they are very inaccurate. It's nearly impossible to AAA a song on it. Where in the arcade, if I take it down to... say... Light mode, I can AAA a song no problem.

I like my Cobalt Flux more than anything, but who are you supposed to show off to with that?

I have a CF pad at home, and I love it, but it doesn't begin to compare to the arcade. It's like sex with a condom. Sure, it's great, but it's just not the same.

i still pefer the arcade cause if you play at home too much you will loose ur skill

I prefer home pads. I have the soft mat that came with DDR Party Collection and we've had it for nearly a year with absolutely no probs. I don't do DDR to catch a crowd or show off, its just for my own cardiovascular workout. I like getting some excercise while looking like a monkey jumping up and down ^^. at the arcade, I goof up a lot because something about people watching me makes me nervous. I'm only in Standard mode...

Bottom line, the arcade is where it's at. Not only are the pads better ( in some cases ) then most metal pads you can buy, but i also play arcade for the social experience and meeting other DDR players in my area. Not to mention girls.. E4.gif
