Hi!
I've seen photos of a computer connected to an Arcade cabinet running Stepmania.
I was wondering if anyone knew or could point me somewhere with info on how this is done? _________________

Nothing is as good as the original (arcade)
Thats like putting a 100 hp honda engine in a ferrari 360 spyder!
Question, why did you want to try to find it out?
If anything MGL in scottsdale arizona (pretty sure) has stepmania hooked up to a 7th mix cabinet _________________

It's a project a friend of mine and I would like to undertake, but we have no info on it. All we know is it can be done. _________________

Not yet, but we will. I'm just trying to gather as much information on this as I can ahead of time. _________________

Gather info?
Do you realize that for a cabinet shipped to you it will be about 2+ grand? And you just plan on transforming it with a simulator?
Why do you want to do this?
My suggestion for you, go to bestbuy and buy a bigscreen TV (about 900-1000) then simply get pads hooked to it, and if you prefer to use stepmania, you can get a cheap 1 ghz computer (you will need one regardless) and hook them all together for one pretty stepmania setup. Oh, and look online for a sound controled neon box to plug the neons in so it beats with the bass!
OOOOR, you can get the pads/TV and then just buy a japanese playstation 2 to get DDR Extreme!
I am only suggesting these because I feel that if you need to ask how to convert a 2,000+ dollar piece of machinery into something else, you should stay far, far away from that plan. _________________

My reasons why are not really important. It wasn't really my idea, but my help was enlisted as I'd probably be better suited for performing this operation than my friend. It isn't my hardware, so I'm not concerned about that. I am not "transforming" the arcade machine to run just Stepmania. I fully intend for it to function as an arcade machine again.
This is a temporary setup, and I've seen it done so I'm just gathering information on what is involved with this.
I'm not looking for tips on making a Stepmania setup for home use. I already have one of those. _________________

That wont be as easy as flicking a switch between "stepmania/arcade" if it is going to be for temp use.
However, you are right. Its not really my concern what you or your friends do with a machine.
Watch some of these movies, and browse the gallery on the website, theres some pictures of ddr cabinets with stepmania. http://www.stepmania.com/stepmania/movies.php
Good luck on your quest! _________________

I dont understand why anyone WOULDNT want to convert the cabinet to Stepmania...Obviously it would be nice to retain the functionality of the original machine, but say you bought a 2nd mix or something crappy like that, wouldnt you like it more if you could have all the other mix's songs on there?
And as far as jusy buying pads and hooking it up to a big TV, nothing compares to the official pads. The pads are hard to find seperate, so may as well get the cabinet, too.
I definately think someone needs to start a site on this. Info on the pad connectors, etc. Might be a nice project to actually make a switch to go between the original system board and the stepmania computer. |

I would prefer a 2nd mix arcade over a cabinet with stepmania any day. _________________

thats you though, some of us want it differently, at the arcade i work at, weve wanted stepmania on the machine for a while, we just dont know how to do it.
and one of the reasons some people would be afraid to put stepmania on a machine is its copywrite infringment _________________

Usually at least the necro-bump is to ask a question, rather than answer one which died with the thread a long time ago. |

And this "Jamma" card will actually allow you to hook up a Konami DDR Monitor to your PC? ... and pads as well? |
