Your lazer is going to die anyway no matter if it's an original disc or backup. If you use good quality CD/DVD-R's your laser will last longer.
DDR_mastor1, the memory card has nothing to do with the ps2 booting a game. _________________

I'm now looking at a slimtool. I think this is what I am going to go with because it's easy to remove. I think I'm going to get an HD loader as well, but I first need to find out if they work with V12s. |

Hello,
I have swap magic and the flip-top for my PS2 to play import games. I am trying to get GuitarFreaks 4th Mix/Drummania 3rd Mix to work but it won't boot up. I keep getting a not a valid ps2 disc message. Can anyone help me out please? Thank you for your time.

Hey jedijeff, can you answer these three questions for me?
1)Did you try using both swapdiscs?
2)Are you able to boot other games?
3)Is your GF/DM disc a legit import or was it burned? _________________

1) I tried the dvd swap disc since it is a dvd game.
2) It's the only import game I have, and I don't have any backup software.
3) It's an original import, brand new.

Well the only two things I can think of are the fliptop isn't reading the disc correctly or that game isn't supported...GF3/DM2 works fine though, so I have no idea why it shouldn't work. _________________

I ordered a PS2Cover Transparent BLUE Lid & Swap Magic Set back on the 22nd of January. It's already the 11th of February and it's still not here. For anyone who has ordered a cover from them before, how long did it take to get it? I already got my imports off of play-asia.com and I can't even play them. Any replys would be appriciated.

I remember ordering the breaker pro from ps2cover, and it took a month to get it. So, you probably have to wait another week for your thing. |

Thanks for the quick reply. Guess I won't be ordering anything from PS2Cover.com ever again. I was begining to think they just charged my Visa and didn't send anything.

In that case, maybe I will just have to get an import PS2 to play J-NTSC games. Anyone know the difference between a japanese and asia model PS2? Will they both work in the US?

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me, but one big difference is the power supply the units expect. The Japanese systems are essentially compatible with the US power grid, requiring no converters to be plugged in. As I understand it, though, Asian units operate on a different voltage, and require a power converter to work in the US. I'm not sure whether there are region differences as well; hopefully someone else can speak to that issue. |

WARNING:
DMS4 E.Z.I. CHIPS ARE NOT RELIABLE. PS2S AND CHIPS ARE DYING LEFT AND RIGHT DUE TO POOR QUALITY CONNECTORS.
If you're not willing to solder in a modchip yourself or spend some extra money for an installation, there is no point in getting a modchip. There's never going to be a perfect ps2 no-solder modchip due to the construction.
And if you're wondering what I mean by poor contruction, the larger clip you put on has to fit on top of 200+ tiny pins, and if you apply the smallest bit of extra pressure your pins will either bend or come off, permanently destroying your ps2. _________________

Can anyone explain why I need a fliptop to play imports? Why can't I get the Magic Swap disc and put it in and then swap to an import? Isn't there something simple like that?
I don't want to internally mod my PS2 just to play DDR Extreme JP.
Thanks! |

When you press the eject button and insert the disc it will always be region/backup checked. You can get around that with a fliptop since you change the disc from the top instead. _________________

Awesome. Does the flip top allow me to play all imports? And are there any know problems with this? My parents keep reminding me about the time I bought a Super Dual Box and it not working (which was only like two weeks ago, I've tried to get it working for many hours, don't ask ).
One more question, whats the difference between the CD and DVD Magic Swap Disc? Which one would you use for import games and what would the other swap disc be for? Thanks!
PS~ Is this what I am looking for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11319&item=8170817291&rd=1
Yeah, it doesn't come with the MagicSwap discs, but I can get them. |
