I'm not quite sure what the criteria is for Machine Location modifications being accepted and posted (although it seems that if the first three answers are "Yes," that works). But I'm thinking there really needs to be an expiration date on proposed modifications. At least, I'd really like to see one. This desire comes from the history of one particular location: White Plains Bowl, White Plains, NY.

This is the second time something like this has happened: the machine wasn't working properly (in this case, the screen was tinted, making the arrows hard to read). But shortly after somebody posted a modification, the problem was fixed. Many users have voted "No" since then, but the modification is still there, waiting for more votes. (Currently, it's sitting at 15 yes, 11 no.)

What makes this situation ridiculous is the fact that the modification has probably been up for about 6 months.

So seeing as how machine condition can change on a daily basis, why don't we create an expiration date for mods, so that if they're not approved within a certain time, they automatically disappear? Is this a good idea?

That does sound like a good idea. I think we'd probably want to set a threshold on it though. Something like - "Expire the modification if it's *contested* and hasn't been resolved within a month." I've got a location in Mississippi which apparently has had the price changed, but nobody goes there often enough to relay that information here, and so the price change has been posted for months.

Maybe when the deadline hits, some sort of rule could be applied, like "two-thirds majority" or "majority." So if the time expires and you have 2 / 3 approvals, it sticks. 1 out of 1, it sticks. If the condition is not met, the mod is thrown out.

Despite the fact that this would mean one person could do a mod by themselves, I don't think the 1 out of 1 case would be a big deal. After all, if the mod looked to be fake or a joke, we'd already have had a month (or whatever the deadline is) to contest it, and the admins would have had a month to take it down.

Another thought would be to allow for temporary mods. Say, for example, a machine is going to be moved to another location for a month or so--or the screen is broken but repairs are scheduled. Why not give an option for a mod to "expire" upon a certain date, specified by the user that issued the mod?

Way too complicated, and I doubt any more than 1% of the people submitting the modifications would actually have a qualified basis to specify the time limit on the modification.

Haha, that sounds like the Sony Metreon Mall Theater Third Floor Arcade. They have been sitting at 29/46 for a long time now. The price really is $1/3 songs! Jeez. E10.gif
