Well if no one has any questions about DDR pads for the PS2, I have a question about a PS2 itself. I was working on my circuit, and screwed it up. Now the 8v that is available to power the dual shock function etc. that I was going to draw off of is gone. I can't find anywhere on how to fix this, and don't have the 70 BUCKS to get it fixed. I'm giving up. I'm seriously upset enough that I don't even want to build my pads anymore. If anyone knows how to fix it please let me know, otherwise I'll just cut my losses (about 160 dollars) and say screw it.

can you run a game with force feedback? if so, then its a software problem.

im not sure how you would fix it either way.

I also agree... I want more people to start building their pads and taking pics.. or even videos of them in use and posting them.

Maybe I'll do that soon.. .but I'm not very good at all... and I'd be playing StepManiaX (xbox version), because I've been hooked on it lately.

grgisme: if you can put up some info (or pm me) about how you were pulling that voltage off the ps2, i'll take a look. I don't know exactly where you were getting the power or how you intended to harness it. Pictures or links to what you're doing would be great. I've had some pretty good success with fixing messed up electronics in the past (took a chunk out of the main board on pandaran's ps2 when i was modding it and managed to jump the traces) and I'd be happy to take a look.

sounds like a plan to me! biggrin.gif It would be a real good thing for new builders to come and look at an updated FAQ other than looking at the 2 year old one and ask the same questions over and over again. It would be a good relief for us too to not need to answer em again! We could put all the new designs and questions for em on it! Now if only we could get ddrhomepad to put the new faq on the first post.......

I'm certianly for a new FAQ. Redundant questions are sure um... well... redundant. As soon as I put my back piece on my pad, I'll post pictures. I think I have a design for a bar, but it won't look exactly like the arcades. I'm just going to use metal tubing (maybe even painted pvc) and elbow joints. I'm also going to have a t-joint in the middle, so each bar has 3 vertical supports, to make it stronger. I don't know how I'm going to cover the base of the plywood supports (where the bar meets the platform) with sheet metal though... I'll think about that... and my pad design....got to get to Lowes...

Don't do that. Build your pad from scratch. It'll work better, and isn't too much more expensive. It also plays, feels, sounds, and looks exactly like the arcade.

www.angelfire.com/d20/ddrhomepad

www.2legacy.com/ddrpad

Visit the angelfire site first, it explains things better. The second site has some modifications to the design.

you might try a softpad mod

get a piece of plywood and duct tape a softpad to the top of it on top of that (make sure you stretch it out as you tape). then, wrap some vynel hardwood flooring around, and staple it to the sides or back.

if you will be on carpeting, get a roll of chait mat (with the spikes on the back) and staple that to the bottom

that is probably the best working cheap sol'n, probably 60 dollars TOPS. more than likely 20 for softpad, 20 for materials.

riptides is thicker and you can put lights in it
ddrhomepad is lighter and you can put it under a couch or something

I got some Wood last week to try the softpad mod, it was only 10 bucks for a 4x4 piece, it's like an inch thick too, good looking wood. I haven't got around to doing any modding yet though. I'm still planning to experiment a little bit, to do a new kind of mod. My plan was to get a roll of a thick rubbery kind of foam or something and cut out the foam to match the pad, then put it on top. It would surely last longer if there was some cushioning there. Not sure how the plan is going to work out though, or how i'm going to put the foam on. I might get some of that hardware floor covering stuff and then maybe glue the foam to that or something, i dunno, it's still a work in progress tongue.gif, i've had a hell of a time finding the kind of foam i'm looking for, i've been everywhere pretty much. Who knew foam would be so hard to find...oh well. I'll let's yous know how it comes out.

What pad design you use depends on your personal prefrences, and your reasons behind making it. If you're looking for a cheap pad, you can use padmakers, or ddrhomepads, with some modification. I don't know much about riptides, since the format of his plans gives me a headache. But if you want a more arcade-style pad/lighted pad, I'd reccomend his, because it's thicker, and can be equipped with lights.
ropeadope: I know home depot carries some multicolor (sort of patchwork-looking) foam that you can put under carpet, and the rubberized anti-slip material that also goes under carpets. You could put either of those under your soft pad, I don't know what density of foam you are looking for.

NOTE: No offense, but this is not a "My modded soft pad" thread.

I don't believe bluebeefman ever made his own pad, just added some great modifications to ddrhomepad and riptide's! Apparently he was the one who first tried to use corner brackets as contacts and also suggested the silicon tubing first as well. Oh wait! Now I remember! He did make his own design pad and it was a really good one too....unfortunately he left the forums like a year 1/2 ago and his sites went down with him. No one has his files on disk or on their PC's either! T_T I guess we'll never know how good it was......

I guess not, but "home built ddr pad" sort of applies to what i'm doing. Plus i'm getting some good info tongue.gif - If i made another thread about it it'd probably be closed anyways.

ok first of all the only threads that the mods close are those that ask questions that should be asked in proper stickies, and this is NOT one that fits in any of them, although maybe in a soft pads thread that cutriss made. Secondly, this is not the thread to be asking SOFT PAD mods. This sticky is for building metal pads, so I dont' know how you could relate that to soft pads. Just start your own thread and it'll save you a lot of trouble from filtering through the stuff we talk about metal pads.

Wow I didn't know you were still here ddrhomepad! Good to see you again. Yeah it would see like a little excessive to collect all the questions and designs from all 180 pages and make a FAQ from it.....I guess if no one will make it everyone will just have to take the newbies that come and answer all their questions.
