I think the bar gets in the way. The only time I use it is if I think it can help me on the HOLD steps because the long ones always seem to go bad, maybe I need to weight 200lbs to keep the button depressed. _________________

There was a guy in the arcade somewhere I went before saying you must be atleast 12 or older to use the bar on a machine the size of this.

What is cylindrical, sticky, worn-out and found at an arcade?
A DDR trick bar, raped to hell by fat chicks.
According to the Nintendo DS commercials, "Touching is good", or something like that.
I sexually harrass on catas and pies, but I don't like to do it. Double-hand is too restricting anyways.
Anyways, rape on.
And remember to use a condom. |

I've only played at the arcade 3 times and the rest was on Xbox. I have only caught myself using the bar if I'm losing my balance or on long freeze arrows.
At home I've used a chair as a make shift bar on hard songs (for me that's the 8-10 foot range) _________________

Now that I'm getting to the 10 foot level, I tried bar raping MaxX Unlimited and actually did worse than I do normally. It hurts my arms too much to rape the entire song...for balance, like if I'm about to smash my face into the screen, I'll hold on with my left hand but that's about it. Yeah, bar sexual harassment w00t! _________________

I NEVER use the bar when I'm (rarely) in arcades, and I jump 2 or 3" when I do a jump, because there's usually something I need to do very soon after.
Man, you guys are good, my only AAA is on Twilight Zone Light (at least it was Dark Stealth modifiers )
I have probably 6 or so Heavy AAs. |

Anyone else finding the rigors of tournament play, particularily with the increased difficulty of In the Groove, are making it essentially impossible to not use the bar? I think everyone in the top sixteen at the last ITG tournament I went to used the bar when it mattered, even on the easiest songs.
I guess when you really get good at it, and you can position your hands on body in such a way that it doesn't move you backward and affect the angle with which you hit the up arrow, it just improves your balance and fantastic attack. It doesn't seem to particularly improve your stamina, however, at least not anymore.
Ironically, though I have 145 Heavy/Oni AAA's, I didn't do any of them without the bar. Basically every other score was bar though. _________________

I just always thought the bar was used to reduce the amount of physical strain on your body, you know so it doesnt tire you out as much, then again i use the home version more, i kind of suck at arcade |

Maybe originally.
When players got very very good their gait tightened (they stepped on the inside of the arrows) to conserve energy. They also started using their heels and they found a way to use the bar such that it doesn't move them back so much.
It was found that, although it actually does improve people's scores, because using the bar stabilizes your body, it dramatically increases your consistency. Therefore tournament players began to use the bar all the time. Especially since ten footers are about the only break songs in a tournament. _________________

does it really matter. If u like to use it...use it. Who cares if some idiot doesnt like u using it. That is on them. Yasu and Take use a trick bar, nobody complains, u use the trick bar, u r forever hated on. |

Err....this is annoying me...
When I learn a song I always use the bar, my feet can only go so fast without the bar and until they learn to get faster (which they usually do) the bar is a godsend....
I mean it's a really good curve to those learning how to play, I mean I wouldn't even be in heavy now without that bar, and its not like people use it for every song....
But yes unfortunatly fat chicks make love to that bar....(reminds self to wash hands after touching) _________________

id like to take this moment to say something....
DING
thank you, that was the sexual innuendo bell
anyway, i played seriously in the arcade for the first time to day and i raped the bar so bad i need to do some time...it's tough because the bar is such a good help if you arent too quick on your feet, but at home i can do 10 footers without a makeshift bar, so i guess i only use it when i feel necessary...because i can get off the bar at the arcade when i want to |
