Whenever I go to the forums here when using the Safari browser (Mac Exclusive browser), it unexpecticly quits on me. It happens when I'm at school and at home, both using the Safari browser. I don't know if anyone else has the same problem. _________________

It's just you (so far).
I'm running Safari 1.2.4 at home without any issues. I've also tested this site thorougly with Safari 1.0, OmniWeb 5.0, 5.5, Konqueror 3.3 and 3.2. I think that's pretty much every Webkit/KHTML based browser still in common use.
Back in the Safari beta days I'd have all sorts of issues with it not launching, crashing, or just plain messing around and I (and many others) found that deleting the safari preferences would be enough to fix the issue. To do this:
0) Quit Safari
1) Go into the library folder inside your home folder
2) Make a backup copy of the Safari Folder and toss it somewhere you can find it (like your desktop)
3) Delete the Safari folder
4) Start Safari
You might also try re-installing safari:
1) Go Download Safari
2) Quit Safari
3) Drag the safari icon from your applications folder to the trash
4) Empty the trash
5) Drag the safari icon from the disk image to your applications folder
6) Unmount and trash the DMG file
7) Start Safari
What version of safari and Mac OS X are you using? Do you have any add-ons like Saft or PithHelmet? Have you been poking around in the Safari application bundle to do things like remove the brushed-metal look? And finally: are you using any of the APE extentions for OS X like Shape Shifter? _________________

Mabey you should reinstall it. If that doesn't work, you could consider using the Mac version of www.mozilla.com _________________

How long have you been having this problem, moon_child? Has the site been working for you up until recently?
Does it only happen when you go to the forums?
How do you go to the forums? Do you type in the URL by hand, or do you go to the home page and click the link there? _________________

Hmm.
Maybe that crashing wasn't at random as i thought it was. |

Any info you can give to Cutriss would also help me in reproducing the problem when I get to work.
Does this happen only after you've been browsing for a while, or does it happen when you first launch the browser and come here? _________________

Kind of both. It just happened to me 3 times in a row while trying to write out a post. I have Random Chat pop-up atutomatically when I type in the first couple of letters for the url, so that might have something to do with it.

Sounds like a defense mechanism to me. _________________

Try using the "reset safari" option under the "safari" menu.
BEWARE: this will remove any cookies, cached files, google searchs, history, and any name/passwords for websites created by safari in your keychain. _________________

I started having problems with Safari crashing only today. I thought it might have been a malicious ad or something that doesn't work with Safari's handlers. _________________

I stopped using Safari on this place months ago. It crashed randomly everywhere. Don't ask for specifics because it's been more than half a year. |

It happens when I go to the website and it doesn't happen in the forums alone. When I try to go to the song list section, it would unexpetically quit on me 2 minutes after going into the page. It started to happen last week, I think.
I do type the URL by hand.
I'll try to do what evn suggested to me on his first post tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully it will solve the problem.
The version of Safari I'm using is 1.2.4 and the operating system is OS 10.3.7. _________________

The latest version of Safari is 1.2.4 (v125.12). It was updated in OS 10.3.7. Make sure you get the Security Update. |

It is obvious that someone made a change here that is screwing over mac users.
For several days I haven't been able to read all the way through a single post without my browser crashing.
The last time it happened, I was reading a post and out of nowhere I got a pop up window saying something about 'read my blog' and 'vgarmy', then it crashed.
It is really annoying.
Somebody fix it please.
Someone here should know what is going on. The site went down a couple times recently. I suspect that someone made an improper update to the site or it was down because it was hacked. Either way, there should be somebody here that know's what's been changed recently so therefore where to look for the cause of the problem.
Of course, if the people in control don't use macs they will probably do nothing. That seems to be the normal course of action from most places.
I have much to contibute, but I'll be damned if I have to use inferior software or hardware to access a particular site. I'd just end up sharing my knowledge somewhere else that functions properly. |

Next time it happens, why don't you take note of where it happened, and point that out to us instead of just arbitrarily lambasting us? Quoting with so many nested proved to be a mess....
1) VG Army is down. So what? I shouldn't have to get pop ups because of where some people choose to store/link files.
Turns out that one was just a coincedence today. (But it still is annoying.) That problem is across the board on other sites too.
The crashes seem mostly random. I have had several of them when I was scrolling or a thread was loading. I have also had it happen upon opening or reloading a page.
I really can't help but think that one of the recent outages is somehow related. I only started having the problem in the last week or so, but I have used the software for more than a year.
2) Can I read what?
Nowhere in the previous posts is there anything even similar to an explicit "Moderator X, who programs for the site, is reviewing the code."
There are a couple of posts of people wanting to try to reproduce the problem, but it never actually says any of them are in a position to fix it.
I only recognize a handful of user names on the site. Is it so unreasonable of me to not know a certain nickname is actually the peson in charge of the entire server?
3) Firefox? Dunno.
But I am referring to the practice of programmers favoring Explorer or other PC/Microsoft/IBM applications etc.
Generally speaking, macs are more reliable than PCs. However, this issue is more of an exception than anything, and I don't think the browser is at fault.
I have had more crashes with Safrai whilst reading posts here in the last week than I have had on my entire machine since December '03.
There is definitely something going on here. I spend hours online and browse several forums several times a day. The crash is only happening with DDRfreak.
Have there been any code updates, rebuilds, or even new advertisers added recently? There has to be an explanation and therefore some way to fix it too. |

For what it's worth. VJ Army was down, and while they were re-building it, they password protected the site, so people using their dynamically generated images from VJ Army were causing you to get password prompts.
This has since been corrected. The "Read my Blog" was Remy (VJ Army owner) telling his normal visitors to go to his blog for details.
It was entirely outside of our control. Remy did put a rule in to block all requests for images so that the password prompts didn't happen on forums (such as this one, and BemaniStyle, and many more I'm sure).
If it's an ad that's causing you problem, we need to figure out which one. We link to the ad host, and the ad host serves the content. The most we can do is 1) Let the ad host know of the problem, 2) Remove ads entirely. _________________

The prompt for a login and password was there for maybe 15 minutes at most. I apologize for the annoyance, and had forgotten to not block the sig files. _________________

Is it so unreasonable of me to not know a certain nickname is actually the peson in charge of the entire server? | My point was specifically that evn, the second poster in this thread, and one of our Moderators, primarily uses Macs (and demonstrated so in his post), and is very knowledgeable of web authoring, as that is his job. And if there was a problem specific to Mac-based web browsers, we would likely know about it by now, and we have a vested interest in making sure that it works, since some of our staff use that platform. Faded_Memories wrote: | 3) Firefox? Dunno.
But I am referring to the practice of programmers favoring Explorer or other PC/Microsoft/IBM applications etc. | Which we don't. Maybe you picked this up because (up until recently), the Version Search tool only worked in IE. I have since fixed this problem.
I'm sorry, you seem to have us confused with people who don't care, or Slashdot. We do care. Since our only income is in the form of ad banners, it is in our best interests to make sure that as many people can view and use the site as possible.
So please, keep your anti-MS vitriol to a minimum, as it is misplaced. Faded_Memories wrote: | Generally speaking, macs are more reliable than PCs. However, this issue is more of an exception than anything, and I don't think the browser is at fault.

While we do have custom modifications written to the messageboard, we haven't changed anything super-critical in the last few months, and our ad host has been getting more and more nefarious clients as of late, and thus we are looking into changing hosting providers and other options to keep the site running while making a minimal impact on our users. _________________
