Thank you for the incredibly descriptive first post sarc.gif

I've found that it made me better at reading fast arrows like Max300 2x, but it also made me a lot more confident than I should be. For example, I can SDG Max300 heavy on SM, but I'm just barely passing it in the arcades. *shrug* I just play it for fun.

We need details, or I'll just call this postwhoring. HOW does it make you worse at DDR? Wait, what am I talking about. SM is a DDR simulator, so it is in fact DDR. If you are saying "SM makes you worse than PS2 versions or arcade machines", you should elaborate.

Wow, that's strange. StepMania has helped me improve my gameplay in every way.

I played StepMania on pads, because of the slight differences in timing it helped me speed through the difficulties.

More recently, even when I play just on the keyboard, it's helped me greatly improve my timing... This shows very clearly at the arcade. I usually get a lower grade than bryon (a better DDR player), but I almost always get a higher score becuase I get less greats.

But at any rate, I hardly see how practicing at anything can be degrative to your ability unless it encourages poor habits... like if there was a ddr sim that discouraged the player from keeping their feet on the arrows after they step.

I remember first getting stepmania about 1 year ago, and I could even pass 8 footers at that time. Since then, with the combination of playing the KO's on keyboard to learn the steps, then playing on foot to play them for real, I've gotten better at reading notes and keeping up with fast tempos. But now I'm unable to use my dancepad anymore, due to personal reasons, so I use the keyboard. 1 year later, Im passing 13 footers and AAAing all the KO's. I'd say its made me better.

I'm guessing you were playing on a keyboard? If you were, that does not help or hinder your leg/eye coordination at all. What most of us do is get a pad and a usb adapter or something and use that at home for a real arcade feel. It's alot better then wasting many many quarters at the arcade just for practice.

I've actually found I'm alot better on the pad then on the keyboard due to mainly playing on the pad.
