Cool, thanks cartoon_hero. I still want to here from Hitokirix, because there's no guarantee he has the 2" brackets, and since he's the one who wanted them I should make sure he's going to get the right graphic. But I'll go ahead and make the graphics for 2", and I'm most of the way there to having them in 1.5", so I may do that as well. I'll be getting the 2" brackets myself though. |

Lol, simma da' na'. I'll do the others, and fix this one if necessary. Like we said though, the correct graphic will depend on how large your arrow brackets are, and you were "guessing" with the 1.5in. So, go measure YOUR specific arrow brackets (if you have them -- if not, look up the demensions to the ones you KNOW you're going to buy), and post them here. I'll modify the border then and post all the final ones. I believe cartoon_hero when he says 2", but if yours are different no since in redoing these things twice. I'll fix it as soon as you let me know. I really do need exact too, in order for it to look good on your pad. Hehe, I'm going to use the border too most likely, so I'll just get brackets identical to yours, lol. I'm trying to think of a ratio that I could implementto easily modify these things, but I'm not so sure there is one. So lets make sure I have the right demensions. Again, I need NOT THE HYPOTENUSE, but the other side(s) (they'll be equal in length), that's the dimension I need.
Thanks

ok i went to the home depot site and found the stanley braces that riptide talks about in his movie. It says in the description that it's "3 inches" but doesn't say which side. I'm pretty sure it's the diagonal side though since no other side really makes sense. Anyway when you figure it out each side of the brace is get this....3 times the square root of 2 all over 2. Now I'm not gonna go over board on the decimals here but I rounded the number to about 2.1223 inches. That should be fairly precise enough....anyway like I said I think the border should be a little smaller in width like 1/2 in. If it's already that width I think it'll be fine. 1/2 in. from the edge of the graphic on all sides should be enough as well. If you dont' think it's big enough 3/4 in. works too I think. This graphic will look soo cool when it's completed..... |

Is there any specific brand of plywood or tape i should look for? I'm going to do a softpad mod. Just any kind of packing tape will do? |

duct tape is best. works on EVERYTHING!!!!! oh and try not to get the cheap plywood that like chips everywhere....but nothing extremely hard either. that makes it really heavy and stuff. |

you may want to mark on top of the duct tape where the edges of the arrows are, if you plan on covering the entire pad with duct tape. packing tape might be slipperier than duct tape, i think. _________________

I noticed how everyone tells you to put 4 pushbuttons on the pads but can anyone tell me if the madcatz control board has the start, select, triangle, and X contacts?
Also, I'm planning to use the corner bracket design to make my arrows but I don't know how loud they are. Can anyone tell me if it makes a loud metal on metal sound when the contacts hit each other? |

softpads are definitely easier to solder to. they have large copper contacts that you can drill and solder no problem. They also have contacts for every button on the ps controller save the sholder buttons. _________________

just build ur pad like a ps2 one but use the madcatz control board. If you get the right one it should have a plug for ps2 and a port for xbox cable plug-ins. that way you can play on both systems. smart eh? |

i do have mad cats dance pad so... it is the same circit board as the one used in the ps2?
so if i were to use a guide the points on the xbox circit board are identical to the ps2 points on the circit board?
i'm kinda confused at what you are getting at |

the madcatz control board is one control board that is compatible with both xbox's and ps2's. this is cuz it can plug into either system and work. got it? you need to have a certain type of madcatz pad though and i forget the certain type. |

That was my biggest fear because I'm in an apartment building. There isn't any "clanking" sound or anything... basically, go to any room in your house with a linoleum floor and start hopping around (with shoes on) like you were playing DDR... that's almost exactly how it'll sound _________________

yay!!!! that's the best kind of sound!! the sound of shoes clicking and clacking on plexiglass panels....*sigh* i love that sound.....did it just like naturally silence itself or sumthing? or did you have to mod ur pad to silence it? |

Three choices, you could make it with the xbox pad and buy a xbox - ps2 converter (if you ever play on ps2), just build it with the xbox controller, and not worry about a ps2 at all (sounds like your situation), or three (which is what I personally would do if I were you because I am going to get an xbox and have a ps2), buy one of the softpads that plugs into either system and use the controller board out of that (it will be slightly more expensive, but would end up getting more use -- if this fits your scenario).
As far as knowing where to solder it or there being a walkthrough for xbox pads, neither is available on the internet. So you'd have to figure out how to solder the controller yourself, but it shouldn't be too hard. If it comes down to it you can figure it out by using some wire to emulate the pressing of the button by connecting contacts together and figure out what contact is what button :-) (you just need to know which one is ground, which is pretty easy typically).

well my xbox is modded so i will be using stepmaniax (hence no need for the ps2)
but i think on www.xbox-scene.com i can find the mapping in where the the "left" or "right" points are on the xbox controller.
so i will probably do that
thanks though...
ironicaly my icon on xbox scene is the same one as grgisme's icon |

the contacts for an x-box softpad whould be the same as for a ps2 softpad, just that the X button would instead be B or something. but l-r-u-d are all teh same, as well as start. select is back. _________________

LoL, gotta love calvin and hobbes. As far as the modded xbox, you might actually consider building a 9 panel pad :-), if you like pump it up at all, because then stepmaniax would be able to play it (I'm presuming, since the computer can), and you'd have a console version of PUI, and you could practice at home and REALLY style at the arcade. I'm not betraying DDR... but PUI takes some skill with knowing when you have to turn around (which happens MUCH more often it seems). Anyhow, I just like them all. The know one In the Groove, by stepmania people, that has a really cool mode with "mines" where if you step on the wrong arrow you lose lots of life, its pretty cool. Anyhow, back on topic:
I finished all the arrow graphics, went fast once I had the format. I made all of them a similar size (they were too small for my liking in the original). The border is .35in thick, and .5in away from all sides and corner brackets. NOTE: THESE ARE GRAPHICS FOR PADS WITH 3 INCH CORNER BRACKETS. I'll be making graphics for the standard 2 inch corner brackets probably tommorrow. It'll go quite fast now that I know exactly how to do it and what shortcuts I can take. I'm not posting all the graphics, just East, so you can compare it with the one I already showed you. I'm providing links to the other graphics (so as to not make the post take up a whole page in the forum).

yep you gotta loove them, as for the xbox that is why i wanted a 9 step dance pad in the first place . but anyway i can pass most songs on heavy, (when i say pass i mean D ) and i can get B through AA on most standard songs. so basically i am not a n00b at DDR. and i saw PUI and i thought i could do decent. i chose a level 5 song (level 5=VERY EASY for PUI standards) and i just got by so i thought the only way to get better was practice practice practice and that is when i thought that i should take advantage of my modded xbox
EDIT: forgot to add this in.
now that i am going to get a better pad besides soft pads ( which i swear are missing steps) but anyway i can do a lot better/more often i can practive |
