soft pad, broken down arrow

hey i got a soft pad for christmas from ebay
it is quite similar to the Red Octane style

the down arrow works fine in the menu, but in gameplay it works only 1/3 or so, i looked in the other topics, searched and couldnt find anything, so please do not delete or lock this thread....i need some help

i tried putting a wood slab in, it fits perfect and doesnt help much
i also cut open the bottom and smoothed it out but nothing more...

You're probably better off just getting a new soft pad. Chances are the arrow is shot due to overuse and no amount of jerry-rigging is going to fix it.

Was this a new pad or did you buy it used?

In any event, I still wouldn't be surprised if the pad went defective even this quickly. Many 3rd-party pads besides RedOctane's tend to have limited lifespans.

nope it was brand new, and all the other arrows work perfect, the pad is nice besides the down arrow and its disfunction

hey i dont know what system your playing on but ive tried a third party ignition style pad and an actual ignition 2.0 that won't work when one foot is on the left or right arrow and your try to press the down arrow. (This is only for xbox, the ignition 2.0 worked great on PS2) I honestly have no clue what the problem is with all these companies selling the pads with all these problems, your best bet is to try to return it or try another one. If all that fails, the only thing i could tell you would be to try a metal pad even though it may seem extreme it may be the only way. (I havent tried any metal pads on the xbox, but i about /-/ <---- this close to getting one

don't bother with 3rd party soft pads. if you really want to play at home, invest in some ignition pads. with most 3rd party pads, you'd be lucky if they lasted more than a week or two.

Y'know what's wierd? The first arrow to go on my first pad was the down arrow too, it was really shot to hell.

I've had this problem with a Konami pad that I have used for several months. If I am holding down the left or right arrow, and I try to hit the down arrow, it doesn't work. Does anyone who knows how the wiring works know how this happens?

i have the same problem. i just got 2 redoctane ignition pads yesterday and the down arrow is having problems on both pads. that's pretty sad.

i don't think that i should have to take apart the product to make it work.

On most soft pads it seems like the down arrows crap out first. I've had 3 of them and the down arrow always broke. If you get a madcatz one you can keep sending them back in, there's a 5 year warranty on them.

here's a word of advice quit ordering off of the damn internet! 7/10 of the products are used and are most likely in the status of being very worn out.

So get your @ss up take the train or bus or whatever public transportation and go to your nearest game store and pick one up when i both my ddr pad the arcade version soft pad is a really good pad that will last for a loooong time which i still have and works 100% and yes if your wondering I do play it on heavy and challenge.

I concur on the solution ...

This is a known problem with the EBay pads and has been covered before. I have had to fix 4 out of 4 pads so far.

Basically, it occurs because of the internal pad wire for the Back button starts at the plastic control unit and runs right along the center spot of the pad. After a few weeks, the wire develops a small break and causes the Back button to stop working. So the fix is to run a new wire from the top to the bottom along the edge of the pad instead of right down the middle.

Here's what can be done. You will need to run a new wire from the control unit to the back pad. I've done it two ways, one is to open the control unit and carefully lift up the wire connection and place a new thin wire (Phone wire works well) under the taped on wire connector. Once connected, I ran it inside the outside edge of the pad and down to the Back button. Carefully cut open the plastic cover and carefully cut open the area around the plastic back sensor. Attach or tape the wire on the bottom of the back sensor. Tape everything up and you are good to go.

An alternative solution is to carefully cut open the pad right under the Up arrow and attach the wire to the internal wires at that point instead of opening up the control unit
