Ok, I noticed something odd when listening to "321 Stars" that I ripped off my Extreme PS2 DVD. Around the middle of the song the singer sings rapidly "3-2-1" and then is a pause in the scoll and a voice says "the stars."

I listened closely, and the voice saying "the stars" seems to sound like the voice synth that Stephen Hawlking (AKA the "wheelchair physicist guy") uses! I could forsee someone using a recording of him saying something like that, this sort of thing has been done before of using things people say (like "Keep Hope Alive" by Crystal Method.)

Has anyone else noticed that or am I loosing my mind?

PS - No MC Hawlking links please.

The voice is pretty clear, although, who knows if it came from Hawking.

It might be him. After listening to Keep Talking by Pink Floyd(which also samples him), they do seem like very similar voices.

That's not Steven Hawking's voice, you dolts. Steven Hawking cannot speak, so he uses a voice synth program connected to a keyboard. Therefore, his "voice" sounds little different than, let's say, the Macintosh speech program voices.

Speaking of dolts, it's not a keyboard. He can only control a single (I think it's just one) button. The screen he has hooked to the synth scans through rows and columns of words and phrases he can say and he selects them by clicking to change the scroll.

I could tell what this thread was going to be about by the topic, and I would've laughed my buttocks off, but the misspelling of Hawking somehow totally killed the humor of it for me.

People, learn to spell crap please. The laguage gods have blessed us with a dictionary and the Internet. Use them for something useful for a change. Hit dictionary.com or type it on Google and see if google says "did you mean..." with the correct spelling.

I hope that's intentional scarcasm.....

EDIT: Plus, I don't quite see how a dictionary will help one spell Hawking, a proper name, correctly......

Its just a robotic voice. I don't think hawking will have the time to say, "The stars." For a game he can never play in his life sorry Stephen. E2.gif

It is actually not at all unlikely that it is Steven Hawking. The instance Alpha is talking about is about 62 seconds into the song and could be Hawking's synth voice. What do you think he sounds like?

Quite true, but seeing as he's a world renowned astrophysicist, i'm sure there's a clip out there somewhere of him talking about "the stars". Like Super Orange! said, he's sampled in a Pink Floyd song.

It might be him, it might not.

Karma's a bitch, ain't it? thumb.gif

Anyways, what was he saying in the Pink Floyd song?

I really think that might have been him.

Oh, and I asked not to mention this at first, but has anyone heard of MC Hawking, where these guys did rap using his synth?

*sigh*

I have such a life. An empty one.

So empty, I've recognized the voice as the speech recognition software in Mac OS.

The voice's name is Ralph. Go crazy. I've learned to detect other voices so "cleverly" made by artists when they've resorted to the good ol' Macintosh.

I guess I have less of a life because I recognized it sooner?

You can get voice synthesized Ralph from pc programs. But it sounds too rich of a voice to be Ralph so most likely they just sound edited someone voice. I bet its easier to just sound edit someone voice then record a Accessibility program.

Xp they only gave me "Microsoft Sam" but I can change him into the other voices. Some of those old names were really funny.

From what I understand, the clips in the song were actually recorded JUST for the song. Maybe I'm misunderstanding though.

Hey, good one Reenee. Heh, someone with a Mac should try and get a MP3 clip of this synth saying "The Stars" to compare it with the one in the song.
