|
|
This topic was originally posted on DDRUK by NMK. NMK and I came up with this contest. The basic purpose is to promote the creation of quality simfiles, and further encourage it in times to come. I and NMK are looking forward to some quality simfiles and good participation. Good luck!
The original topic has been lost due to issues with the DDRUK server.
Please post your interest here. Thanks!
-----------------------------------------------------------
First off, let me make this perfectly clear.
There will NOT be ANY KIND of prizes for this contest. The basic purpose I'm putting through here is to get your best work out to other people so we don't have to wade through files that are just plain homicidal to the eyes. I have faith in a lot of filemakers out there and they're not being recognized. So...If you're okay with that, read on. ^^
The theme here is songs that are 16-bit or below. So...This means what to you? Basically, anything from systems like Super Nintendo, Genesis, etc. OR NES, Gameboy, even old arcade games.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Rules (Subject to change):
1 ) No remixes. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. I'm only going to bother playing the original versions. Any others will be disqualified.
2 ) Light, Standard, and Heavy charts are required. These MUST be paddable. Keep in mind that I'm going to be playin' these on a pad. If you want to, you CAN add a Challenge chart. This can be keyboard or pad.
3 ) You MUST include graphics. A still background and banner are all that are required. If you wish, though, you can include other graphics for BG changes. No AVI or other video files, please. They just take up too much room, and I doubt they'd make it through the E-Mail alive.
4 ) All submissions must be under 10MB, because most are anyway. 10MB is way too big for one file.
5 ) All music files must be in MP3 format, and NOT below a 96kbps bitrate. Anything lower is too poor of quality and basically destroys the song. Please do NOT use songs over 3 minutes long. Most old game songs don't run that long anyway.
6 ) All graphics files must be PNG format.
7 ) Stepfiles must be in either SM or DWI format.
8 ) Files that are ridiculously stupid will not be judged. For example, if I see unreasonably high BPM...Like 1865107465 or something...No, that's just bad.
9 ) You may submit up to 2 files. We will only count the better of the two.
10 ) File compression is not required, but if you decide to compress, only ZIP files will be taken.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Judging:
Judging is going to be done in StepMania rc2. Keep that in mind, as there are differences between simulators and versions. There will be two judges, so nobody will be at the mercy of just one.
1) Steps - 40 Points Each - This includes synchronization, the actual steps, BPM changes, BPM stops, AND feel. For example, don't take a 110 BPM song and crank it to 330 just for the heck of it. Challenge charts will be judged out of 20 points.
2) Graphics - 30 Points - For the most part, if they're there, you get all 30 points. If they're complete crap, though, you're definitely going to lose points. BG changes will be awarded up to 10 extra points.
3) Proper Titling - 5 Points - All I'm asking here is that you label what SONG it is and give proper credit to the artist/company that originally did it. Nothing hard.
-----------------------------------------------------------
All submissions must be in by February 14, 2005. Judging will be done by March 1, 2005. Results will be posted here and the top three simfiles will be uploaded soon after.
PLEASE SEND ALL SUBMISSIONS TO EITHER:
[email protected] (Submissions under 2MB)
[email protected] (Submissions under 10MB)
Include your DDRFREAK board name in the E-Mail, and type "Nearly=16 Simfile Contest (DDRFREAK)" as the subject please!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Good luck to everyone who enters. Hopefully we'll have a nice turnout and some great files. Any questions, feel free to ask here, or E-Mail us. ^^ Thanks!
-----------------------------------------------------------
LOOK HERE FOR UPDATED CONTEST NEWS!!
Just to clarify, NMK and I will be judging files independently. Final scores are determined by the final total of our scoring.
We will not reveal individual scoring points for each area, but may release final points for each individual simfile at the end of the contest. It depends on participation and what we decide during the judging stages. We have yet to determine if we will do this, and if we will or will not reveal the names of those who submit their simfiles (unless they are a winner, of course). Things will be finalized in time to come.
Be sure to contact us with any questions you may have.
Contest progress:
1 simfile submitted by 1 user.
1 out of 1 files given a final rating.
Average score (out of 370): To be posted, when 10 files receive a final rating.
As of January 15, 2005, thirty- one days are left in the contest.
Final submission day is February 14th, 2005. _________________

It sounds good except for this part:
"The theme here is songs that are 16-bit or below. So...This means what to you? Basically, anything from systems like Super Nintendo, Genesis, etc. OR NES, Gameboy, even old arcade games. "
Are there that many people who want to dance to stuff like that? |

Well, themes such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda are very danceable, as well as remixes of Still More Fighting and B4U. I enjoy them, and many other people do to.
NOTE: There is still no remixes allowed. _________________

I might have entered it if it wasn't so rediculously clause-whored. |

Well, everything in there is necessary to make it run smoothly. If you want to take the time to read it and enter, be my guest. If not, it doesn't matter. I never said you had to. _________________

If you could supply us with some songs or give an example of songs that we could use in this and that would be great. |

So remixes are not allowed. Are simple edits ok?
For example if at the end of the song, I want to paste a previous section of the song for the finish instead of fading out the song, is that acceptable? _________________

No. You can in no way alter the song.
Simple examples are the Super Mario Bros. Theme, Sonic & Knuckles Death Egg, Super Paperboy 2 Obstacle Course music, whatever! As long as it comes from a system that registers as a 16-bit system or less, i.e. NES, Game Boy, Genesis, Turbografx-16, you can use it. _________________
