Yesterday I went to the mall and at one of the little kiosks, they had those games that you plug in to your TV. I saw a DDR dance mat on the floor hooked up to the tv with NES style graphics and songs. I was thinking that it couldn't be Konami licensed, then I played it.... . Man was this fu.cked up! The only good thing about it was that it had the song Butterfly, but only in GB sounding music and no lyrics. The rate that the song was going at sounded like Butterfly on 2x Rate speed on SM (without the music quality and lyrics). The song was actually pretty hard, but only because the arrows were:
instead of . Of course the graphics were crappy, but it really made me laugh when they called it Dance Championship 2004 (or something like that) when it really should have been Dance Championship 1984-1994 or DDR Retro Mix feat. crappy NES music. Anyone else seen something like this? _________________

I'll have to give the creators credit for the songlist. I think it had 60+ songs and most were pretty decent. But i'm never going to forget how retarded I looked when I was playing on a softpad in the middle of a crowded mall with people watching me screw up really badly at constant 1/4 beat notes...with the arrow screw up. _________________

I actually found a DDR game for NES that was probably similar to this if not the same. It's a ROM of a bootleg game that may have come from the plug-and-play game or maybe an actual cartridge, not sure. It's called Dance 2000 and it's completely awful. The songlist has about 60 songs, with DDR songs mainly from 1st-3rd Mix. Boom Boom Dollar is in the songlist, but when you play it, it's not Boom Boom Dollar. In fact, I have no clue what it is. o_O I'd guess there are other mislabeled songs in the game, too. The gameplay is completely pointless. The timing is screwed up to the point where I think it just judges your button presses randomly and the arrows are only sort of synced to the music at best. There's no combo counter that I've seen, because I've never managed to get more than 2 or 3 Perfects/Greats in a row. There's also a Nonstop mode in the game called "Mix" and I honestly had no idea what it was until I started playing and completed a song because entering Mix mode gives you a selection screen with options like "Mix Threedisk" and "Mix Twodisk". Finally, there are 4 other games on the ROM: Pinball, Pac Man, "Hit Mouse" and "Pin Pan" (Ping Pong?) but I don't know what they actually are as trying to select them does nothing. Horrible all around!
On a completely unrelated note: MAXANOiA, your sig is hilarious! |

Yeah it might be the same one but i'm not sure. There's so many DDR? knockoffs out there that it's too hard to keep track of all of them. _________________

Maybe a compilation of DDR GBA 1-3?
At least that's what this game sounds like. _________________

Well, what I played certainly wasn't a compilation of DDR GB 1-3. That would have been preferable to this mess. I've made some screenshots of the game. I think you'll see that this is definitely not DDR GB. Text links for those on dial-up.
The Title Screen
OWW! It hurts my eyes to look at this one.
The Mode Select Screen
Single is the main game mode, Mix is Nonstop, and Game is 4 games that don't work. o_O
The song select screen for Single mode
Note: I have no idea what the first song is supposed to be.
Page 2 of the song select screen
I recognize some of the K-Pop songs from 3rd Mix Plus, but some of the ones on here are a complete mystery.
Gameplay screen, freaky graphics abound
I'm supposed to be playing Dub-I-Dub here.
Judgment screen
12 Perfects! Yay! I think this is the best I've ever done on this game!
The song select screen for Mix/Nonstop mode in all its confusing glory.
The other page of selections contains nothing but the choice "Mix Twodisk"
The additional games they included which don't work
Pinball is the old NES game from the 80s. I discovered this when the game glitched up and started playing music from the game when I played it another emulator. I'm guessing "Pin Pan" is some Ping Pong game, but whether they mean like table tennis or the old Pong game, I dunno. There's also Pac Man, and I'm guessing "Hit Mouse" is some kind of Whack-A-Mole game, but I'll never know! |

That would have been freakin awesome in 1985.
But in 2005? IT LOOKS LIKE UTTER S**T! Kiddie ROM hackers probably could have made that. |

Dancing Stage feat Dreams Come True, one of the many specialty versions of DDR. There was also Dancing Stage feat True Kiss Destination, and Dancing Stage Disney's Rave. They are all Japanese release (not to be confused with the Dancing Stage european versions of DDR). |

The machine pictures on that page show "Dreams Come True" but the title bar of the page says "T.K.D" as in True Kiss Destination. o.o |
