It depends on what you mean by "started." A few of my friends in highschool were familiar with it and I played maybe.. twice a year, when I was presented with a situation where their home pads were available for playing on. It was my friends Alex and Mike in Waterloo that got me really started on DDR, though. And in the course of two-three months I went from a 3-4 foot player to a fairly consistent 9 foot player.

My friends were having a DDR party, and I was like, "ddr?" Then I went over and the first song I played was End of the Century, light mode(hardest thing I've ever done, failed in the process). Now here I am.

I walked into an arcade in Edgewood, Maryland. I didn't really know about DDR at the time. I walked around and saw a kid on a DDR machine going crazy on some song, probably on heavy. So I tried it.

When I went to FanimeCon, I saw the insane people playing there, and noticed that RedOctane had discounted pads... so there you have it.

I have a really big competition with my brother that extends from everything and anything. One time he went on a school trip to Los Angeles so he picked up a PlayStation and a couple of DDR games with mats home. He already knew how to play so he was quite good at it and challenged me to play.

I got better and now I'm better than him. biggrin.gif

Haha, the first song I played was 1-2-3-4, 007 on Basic. Man, that song ROCKS.

"One, two, three, four - oh, oh, seven! All the good times fly away..."
xD

Summer of 2001.
Sony Metreon in San Fran, CA.
DDR 3rd mix and USA. I played a few songs and liked it. My dad and I ended up buying DDR for PS1 and a crappy Naki soft pad for my mom as a practical joke bday present, and when she opened it. I basically comandeered it and played until it was broken. Then I started going to the arcade, and bought a couple ignition 2's, haven't replaced those since I just play arcade now.

You have to understand that there is no hope in hell of a new US available arcade version.

I would have to say my freinds probably, cuz one of my friends got the ps2 package with ddr extreme and then my other friend got the same thing, then they could of course waste me at it but i got totally hooked and well now i am better than both of them, since i play in heavy on a lot of songs and they still play on standard or light, but ya it is kind of funny...cuz i have been playing since the first of jan and they have been playing since early december.

I was at my friend Catherine's house with another friend Amy and they pulled out the mats. I've always wanted to play but never thought I could do it so I refused to do it with them. They forced me on the mat and made sure I got through AT LEAST lesson mode. Was hooked so badly that when Amy was staying over we played for 4 DAYS with little sleep or eating.

I am now better than Amy and on par with Catherine. Figures. biggrin.gif

I saw people playing in the arcade but I was afraid to try it. My friend got DDRMAX2 for ps2 and I played it at her house and I became addicted. I just bought a ps2 so I could get the game.
