hey i got a soft pad for christmas from ebay
it is quite similar to the Red Octane style
the down arrow works fine in the menu, but in gameplay it works only 1/3 or so, i looked in the other topics, searched and couldnt find anything, so please do not delete or lock this thread....i need some help
i tried putting a wood slab in, it fits perfect and doesnt help much
i also cut open the bottom and smoothed it out but nothing more...
thanks anyone who can help _________________

You're probably better off just getting a new soft pad. Chances are the arrow is shot due to overuse and no amount of jerry-rigging is going to fix it. _________________

Was this a new pad or did you buy it used?
In any event, I still wouldn't be surprised if the pad went defective even this quickly. Many 3rd-party pads besides RedOctane's tend to have limited lifespans. _________________

hey i dont know what system your playing on but ive tried a third party ignition style pad and an actual ignition 2.0 that won't work when one foot is on the left or right arrow and your try to press the down arrow. (This is only for xbox, the ignition 2.0 worked great on PS2) I honestly have no clue what the problem is with all these companies selling the pads with all these problems, your best bet is to try to return it or try another one. If all that fails, the only thing i could tell you would be to try a metal pad even though it may seem extreme it may be the only way. (I havent tried any metal pads on the xbox, but i about /-/ <---- this close to getting one |

don't bother with 3rd party soft pads. if you really want to play at home, invest in some ignition pads. with most 3rd party pads, you'd be lucky if they lasted more than a week or two. _________________

Sure no problem, you'll have to mod the pad after yo fix it but mine works better now. I was fixing a Konami pad so everthing i am going to tell you is bassed on that. ok first off you need a wire with some kind of insulation around it, i used some scrap wire my dad had in the garage, I don't really know what it is exactly but anything will work you have to pull the pad apart into layers, really simple just pull the edge off, on the Konami the edge is green. You will find two layers of sensors with a flimsey piece of foam through the middle of them the layer of sensors that has all the buttons conected is the ground and that layer isn't important, on the konami this is the top layer, the bottom layer is the problem. You have to unscrew the black part at the top of the pad and unscrew the circut board too, don't loose the screws because replacements aren't easy to find, trust me, in the konami pads the circut baord is labled for what sensors conect to which buttons. strip about an inch of the insulation off both ends of the wire tape one end to the circutbaord and the other to the broken arrow sensor, the only problem is you will have to do this for all the buttons on that side of the circut or they will respond slow. after you do that screw the black box at the top back together and test BEFORE you put it all back together, just use duct tape to hold the layer together, it if it doesn't work take it apart and try again. after it works ( it only took two tries for me) you could sew the edge back up with the old foam in it or you could replace it with half inch foam with bigger holes then you could sew it up or you could use black duct tape to tape it to a piece of 34"x38" piece of 1/4" tempered hardboard the you can get for $5 at the home depot and they will cut it for free. it's a bit of work but it was well worth it for me, the pad actually works better and it only cost like $10 for the foam and hard board wich beats payin even $20 for a new crappy soft pad, oh by the way use ductape to tape the wires to the sensors and circutboard it is the only thing that will stay. oh btw i store mine behind the couch when im not playing.
well hope this helps,
if it doesn't work let me know and maybe I can help _________________

I've had this problem with a Konami pad that I have used for several months. If I am holding down the left or right arrow, and I try to hit the down arrow, it doesn't work. Does anyone who knows how the wiring works know how this happens? |

Yeah if you takepart the black box at the top the circutry is labeled, if you look at my message a few posts up I explain how to fix the pad, I had the exact same problem you did, the problem for me was that the sensors just didn't have a good conection, Hope his helps! Let me know if I can do anything else! _________________

i have the same problem. i just got 2 redoctane ignition pads yesterday and the down arrow is having problems on both pads. that's pretty sad.
i don't think that i should have to take apart the product to make it work. |

On most soft pads it seems like the down arrows crap out first. I've had 3 of them and the down arrow always broke. If you get a madcatz one you can keep sending them back in, there's a 5 year warranty on them. |

here's a word of advice quit ordering off of the damn internet! 7/10 of the products are used and are most likely in the status of being very worn out.
So get your @ss up take the train or bus or whatever public transportation and go to your nearest game store and pick one up when i both my ddr pad the arcade version soft pad is a really good pad that will last for a loooong time which i still have and works 100% and yes if your wondering I do play it on heavy and challenge. _________________

I concur on the solution ...
This is a known problem with the EBay pads and has been covered before. I have had to fix 4 out of 4 pads so far.
Basically, it occurs because of the internal pad wire for the Back button starts at the plastic control unit and runs right along the center spot of the pad. After a few weeks, the wire develops a small break and causes the Back button to stop working. So the fix is to run a new wire from the top to the bottom along the edge of the pad instead of right down the middle.
Here's what can be done. You will need to run a new wire from the control unit to the back pad. I've done it two ways, one is to open the control unit and carefully lift up the wire connection and place a new thin wire (Phone wire works well) under the taped on wire connector. Once connected, I ran it inside the outside edge of the pad and down to the Back button. Carefully cut open the plastic cover and carefully cut open the area around the plastic back sensor. Attach or tape the wire on the bottom of the back sensor. Tape everything up and you are good to go.
An alternative solution is to carefully cut open the pad right under the Up arrow and attach the wire to the internal wires at that point instead of opening up the control unit |
