GamesAreFun.com is reporting that Konami will be featuring Dance Dance Revolution at the Consumer Electronics Show next week from January 6 - 9. Konami is sponsoring the Cardio PlayZone booth to show attendees how exercise can be both productive and fun when games like DDR are involved. If you'll be at CES this year, you can check it out in the Innovations Plus exhibit area.

If you go to the website the news is from, you'll note that there WON'T be a new version of the game. They'll simply be showcasing DDR Extreme as a way to lose weight.

I want to go and play some DDR there... I can probably show off and burn like 4 calories since I've been so lazy lately =( ! Hopefully little kids aren't around to step on the pad while you are playing because that is just too annoying!

I believe the quote "a fun way to lose weight" also implies DDR as a way to have fun.

P.S. What sickens me is when idiots don't know how to spell "lose", even when the post directly above them spelled it correctly.

WOWWWWWWW

In any case, Konami closing "there amarican arcade division" wouldn't stop a new mix from coming here. How do you think that all of the other foreign versions got here?

Since we're on the topic of Konami closing their US Arcade division, has anybody REALLY thought about the larger implications?

Konami isn't stupid. The weight loss/exercise angle is going to get their product into more homes, into schools, into gyms, et cetera. All that extra exposure due to the exercise component is resulting in increased revenue for their niche product.

It would be nuts to ignore the growing exergaming market when you have a product so perfectly suited for it. Unfortunately, the Workout Mode in Extreme is really one of the worst ever for people who want to use it on a daily basis for doing goal-based workouts, but the game itself is still functional as an exercise medium.

And yeah, I'm a bit biased. DDR helped me lose 15 pounds in the last two months. So, "skrew" me!

Yes, I have quite a bit of fun. But I think all people that play DDR do it for an element of fun. Even people who do it to work out choose DDR because it is a fun workout. If they weren't playing DDR because it was fun, there are a couple hundred thousand other exercises they could be doing that are decidedly unfun and provide a more strenuous workout.

So I guess the question would be, where are these people who force themselves to play DDR for exercise and have no fun in the process?

Well correct me if I'm wrong but it was already established that way since PA became popular with DDR players... not to mention it includes Diet/Workout mode

PA = striving for perfection at the game which is really no different from striving for the perfect body - example loosing weight... notice how all the screenshots of DDR Festival on Konami's site feature girls... perhaps this is the way Konami wants it : DDR makes girls skinny again! lol

Konami certainly isn't focusing much on the dance part of DDR... there is like one song with good steps to Freestyle to on DDR Extreme.... Ultramix 2 seems to have a lot but again diet freaks don't care... lol

Introducing Dance Dance Diet! (DDD)

To CartoonHero29:

"Skrew the fat people who play DDR to lose weight"?

I'll admit, I'm a little overweight, but DDR has lost me a lot of weight. And I don't just play DDR to lose weight. That's one of the stupidest, most inconsiderate remarks I have EVER heard. I'm not going to make any assumptions about your skill level, but I consider myself pretty good at the game, because I play it a lot, and I play it for FUN. Again, the fact that you think overweight people play DDR only to lose weight is sickening, as is your remark.

Actually, while it did say that when I posted this article, it doesn't say it anymore. Interesting, huh?

I don't think I loss a tremendous amount of weight...but then i noticed DDR has boosted up my energy compared to not playing it. Before it used to take me 9-10 minutes to run a mile, now it takes me only 6-7 minutes!

<<<< Joke??? >>>>> Workout mode...please WTF is that? do u lift weights or something... Diet Mode sounds wayyyyyyyy better because you just have to starve yourself and become an anorexic rather than straining your muscles with agonizing pain on a workout!

PS: I know what workout mode and diet mode are so don't be telling anyone in order posts after this that Diet mode is blah blah blah...
