does SM slow down your computer ?

hey yall, i just got a new computer and it has like nothing on it so its pretty fast and i was wanting to d/l stepmania and i was wondering if it will slow my computer down. andybody know?

Many people seem to have this misconception that having things installed on your computer will slow down overall performance. This is true if you're loaded down and have almost no space left, but things RUNNING is what will drag performance down.

If the song has extensive video for the bg, I find it may lag the arrows a bit, but I've always been able to run AIM, Firefox, MSN, Word, etc at the same time with no problem.

i usually run my SHOUTcast radio station, a webserver, SMLAN server, AIM, and many various things at the same time with StepMania, and its not slow at all. I get a FPS of about 300-400.

As long as I turn off Firefox (which eats quite a bit of memory) it will work fine for me (a Pentium 3 might I add) even with Random Movies.
