Any experiences? I once challenged some girl to play, and we did. She was on light, I was standard, so I did win. Then some other guy came up and was like "I'll pay if you play". Who was I to turn that down? I was an idiot.
He wasted me and people were laughing... oh well. He's a regular at the arcade, so I know now not to mess around with him.
So have you ever played against people you didn't know? _________________

Yeah, unless you're playing a mix with battle mode types (for example, Disney Rave and inthegroove), you really shouldn't care about "versus".
Sure, you can challenge friends to see who can get less greats, but walking up to strangers and saying, "I challenge you to a DDR duel" seems really kinda lame.
You're not proving anything by beating someone in the arcade like that.
But Battle mode/Dance Magic is FUN, that's always good to play, especially when the mods pour on on really hard songs. _________________

Yes I have, actually. This one guy who had just been standing there watching us play asked if he could play me when it was my turn. I let him, and I didn't know what to expect. He was okay, did fairly decent on Paranoia Evolution Heavy. |

I think that a kind of "DDR League" would rock. People would keep track of who's beating who, who's got the most wins, losses, etc... it would be cool. |

I kinda actually wish somebody would actually challenge me. All the regulars are pretty good and are a great bunch, but I think that a real showdown would spice things up nicely.
There's a regular who's pretty good who I've been itching to challenge for a while...I think I can beat him once I master PS, since he gets AAs on just about anything but fails all 10 footers...this way I can shut him out by picking max300 and PS _________________

One thing! I am a boy just to let you know, only cuz my usernamae sounds weerd... ANYWAYS!
I play Maniac, and other people always come up to me with their group of DDR buddies behind em! Damn! I started playing DDR when I was 11 and 1/2... I learned Maniac when I was 13... ANd I can own hella people now that Im turning 14 on January 31! Wee... send me an early B-Day message okay!? Anyways... One time at this arcade, there were like 15-20 DDR maniac players right... So the dude in front(the so-called leader) tells his guys to challenge me first, hell challenge me last. So we play Furuhata's Theme, Rhythm and police, Tsugaru, Afronova. You know, the hard stuff. (i CANT beat MAX300 or any other MAX song) So yeah... I owned them all! Hella bad! So... what am I to do when the leader challenges me now, I just say,"I hope you can do any better than them cause your team has got to practice." He just dogs me and says to me,"youre gonna lose" ... MY BUTT! AHAHAHA! We played these songs( iremember them) in order: Rhythm and Police, Can't Stop Fallin In Love(Speed Mix), and then MAX300! For the first time, I beat MAX300! And I beat his butt! I sure owned him... Afterwards, I shook his hand telling him good game. Well, he told me to watch myself on DDR... Theres more to come. Does this guy have an army of DDR maniac players? This guy sets up his own tournament at the arcade or something. He brought like 30 to 40 people this time trying to beat me at DDR! Damn, they sux! Only one guy almost beat me... We got the same grade 'A'... but to see who won, we checked the total score. Shoot, I won! Yay! That was fun. Anyways, so yeah... Ever since then, more and more people began wanting to challenge me. I love being 14 right now. It's funny how 16 and 17 yeer olds cant beat me. HA! That goes out to the losers that thought they can beat me by sending a million people to bring me down! Im a one-man-army in DDR... God, that was funny. One thing: I never enetered a DDR Tournament before in my life! I never found one. I live in San Jose, California. People please help me, check if there are gonna be any events around my area... Thank you! KEEP PLAYING DDR! KEEP GOING MANIAC!

FOnewearl - now i feel like "challenging" you seeing i'm in canada, that won't happen anytime soon. you are a true sportsman. i would never have shook hands with that person you played against. i'd be also afraid in case his gang bashes you in out of jealous rage or somethin'.
i have a silly story to share too...
i play maniac/heavy and i saw this kid play light. for some reason, he comes up to me and says "i want to play you." i really didn't know how to react. people around where i live seem to love running their mouths for some reason.
so whatever. i tell him to pick first, and he picks jet world - light. crushed him. 15 greats FC to 60-70 plus assorted non-combos. and to add insult to injury, i played on the "bad" pads. i should have done better, but oh well.
so i pick my best 7+ song, door of magic. i put it on heavy, and i tell him to do the same. he's confused. i mean wtf! people always ask each other "can i play along with you?", "can i shadow you?", friendly non-threatening stuff and i have no problem with that. people who are good (at least where i live) are nice people. but when you say stuff like what FOnewearl and I described, it's on baby!
at this point, i felt like i had nothing left to prove. so i tried out pseudo-S4R for fun (and essentially let him "win"). d'oh, i put it on stealth instead of sudden and i give up right away. then La Bamba, which i only played once on World Tour, came up on Random i fail the song. next time, i'm picking an oni only song
the kid shakes my hand and says "thank you (blahblahblah)", and i'm like "whatever". some adult even high-fived the kid for "beating" me. idiots, i tell you. lesson for the day kiddies, don't challenge a person on your local scoreboard unless you can remotely close to their score. |

I play versus a lot with my friends or people that are in my team for practice, but that's all really; I rarely accept challenges at RTA as most of the people there are n00bs or tourists that are quite new to the game. _________________

That thing he did was funny. But! .. What I didnt mention was it took me the whole day! And I mean th ENTIRE day just to beat them, cuz of course I got hungry. Yum yum! Munchees! So yeah, and sometimes I would almost lose, and how? Becuase, I got tired a lot and that dumb guy(the leader of the Noobie Bunch) kept sending people to challenge me.
(thanks for reminding about page breaks John bono) (sry bout other post)
One after another that dork just kept calling em to chalenge me! Course I got pissed off after a while. My stomache was hurting for an hour before he let me eat. And damn! I felt just a lil sick. But I wanna challenge him again, even though hes not that good... I wanna see if hes improved. hahaha
I got one complaint to say about this mini tournament that dork held up just defeat me:
No one was around with a camera! I wanted to be filmed beating 40 players' butts! Cuz I wuz kicking wanna-be maniac azz!
Well, you guys, please dont challenge. Im not saying Im better than you, Im saying I lvie too far from you. LOL
So there ya have it... Thats the details I didnt get to mention in my other post. Send me a message on AIM, Yahoo!, or just PM. Oh, and I DO check my email... so go on and email me.
Keep paying DDR Maniac!
My Advice: Only, and only challenge someone when youre almost a good as they are... _________________

I've never had to "challenge" anyone. I had a reputation for my level of skill at the places I played at so I let the noobs do the talking if some people who I didn't know walked in.
So if I played with anyone then it was with people that actually had skill. Simply put.

If some guy came up to me and said "H3yY d00dz I CaLl3Ng eYoU!" I would just fall on the floor laughing, then I'd waste him in a round of DDR.
Every time I "play against" some one I am either the only one playing heavy, or I just "win."
I know not to play the two people I know are good. One can AA every Max (including TLoM), the other I've seen A PSMO. I had to play the second guy once because he was next in line. He played PSMO, I got killed, didn't even pass. |

The people in my arcades are different. I don't know how to explain it, maybe I would say layback? Then stead of saying I challenge you, you damn noob. We ask a question. Like, "Want to verse me?". When people fail in a verses battle. Nobody says anything, nothing bad atleast.
Nonetheless I have versed people during my time of playing DDR. I say 99% of the time are pretty pleasurable. _________________

DDR at my arcade is so simple and unformal. Myself and a couple other regulars just play and take turns. There isn't any "I challenge you" or stuff like that. It's more like "Are you going to play next?" or "Wanna dance with me?"
I was just thinking of the little kid that matthew talked about. At the arcade, some little kid playing beginner kept on playing over and over with like 5 people behind him, including myself, and he would just put more and more money in because he never failed. So I finally just step up behind the pad and I pushed the down arrow enough to put him in heavy. Instant death! HAHAHA! Then he gets of and says to everybody "I guess that one was a little too fast for me." WTF!? Little kids are weird. I just felt like sharing. |

That's exactly how my arcade is. We usually just play for fun, not to "challenge" eachother. The only time we competitivly play is when theres tournaments there. _________________
