All I know about SMO and getting started and such

1) Get StepMania RC1 or RC2
2) Run over to here and get the stuff you need. This, for now, is the official site for SMLAN/SMOnline, until Stepmania has a section for it (I'm guessing)
3) Instal the files, open Stepmania. Go down to options, then at the very bottom hit Network. Get that up, hit connect and type in the server's URL/IP. After doing that, it should say at the top 'Connecto to "server_name" succsesful.

**Can't connect to a server? They go down often, and try unblocking ports 8765.

As usual, please tell me if you know of any more.

Some help files can be found on the CNLohr site, and since it says not to directly link to his files, they can be found on that page.

I made a topic on DDRManiaX with a list of all the dedicated servers, and it got stickied, but since the site is down, I cant retrieve the link. Until then, the only 2 I know off the top of my head are my server (nero.servemp3.com), and dieKatze88's server (katze88.no-ip.com). Both are up 24/7.

This is excellent, great for someone starting out on SMOnline. The server I've found to have the most people is the ddruk one, smlan.multiplay.co.uk.

Oh and btw, for the first post, it's CNLohr, not lorh

I'd just like to say if my server isnt running, contact me on AIM (Nerosuferoth444) and tell me ASAP, cause the version I have of the server (rev 5) seems to close unexpectedly and random times, and i cant control that.

I've noticed that dieKatze88's server seems to crash a bit... everytime I've been on there, the reason I stopped was because the server went down

The version of the SMLAN server that me and dieKatze88 has seems to crash unexpectedly at random times, so please take that into consideration. THe devs are trying to fix that problem, along with getting SMOnline operational.

there should be an IM button under my name, in the event that my server goes down, ill put the server back up. just LET ME KNOW.

Someone (not naming names) came onto my server tonight, proceded to be a f*ckhead to the people already using the server (including myself) and then left. should this person or anyone else do this again on my server, rest assured, you will be banned.

Only server I was able to get on earlier today was Merklo.

BTW I noticed a lot of SMLAN servers are full of megapack whores. I guess its cool to play megapack a lot, but a little change is nice everynow and then. Not to mention as far as I can tell you can just change the difficulty to 1 and no-one would know the wiser when you start double AA'ing all the megapack songs (correct me if they fixed this).

That reminds me earlier today I was on Merklo and there were about 4 players kicking anyone that didn't have songs they wanted play. I have megapack but I didn't have a certain simfile they wanted to play so instead of just force_starting they decided to start kicking people.

Too bad anybody who stays on the server long enough can get admin. Leads to a lot of jerks taking over servers because their so elite because they can AA some megapack file, and anyone that can't is a N00b in their eyes.

If someone is on judge 1, at the end of the song look at their mods, TIMING will show up in all caps, that means they are not using judge 4. It's a nice feature.
