It's not better in every way imaginable, dukcw0rm.
1. It doesn't have more genres than DDR. If anything, it has different genres, because some key genres are under/unrepresented. (For example, needs more house!)
2. Steps are good sometimes, but some of the steps are ass on Hard difficulty, and occasionally on Expert too. Disconnected (Ex), the 1/16ths feel totally dumb and excessive. July (H), there's all sorts of great rhythms going on, and the song is almost nothing but 1/8th notes. Euphoria has all sorts of beautiful rhythms, and it could easily be the So Deep of ItG on (H), but its steps are pretty crappy. etc
And a few more sidenotes, but those are the big problems.
However, I'll still take ItG over DDR 9 days out of 10. More challenge makes it more interesting for me, since DDR 9s are easy and DDR 10s are frustrating. A bridge between those difficulties is well-appreciated. Additionally, I don't much care for battle, but Marathon mode is the best thing ever. _________________

1) And there aren't any DDR songs with useless feeling steps? I think not.
2) Okay, I'll say that ITG has more ACCURATELY REPRESENTED genres than DDR. There can be no dispute there. Find a hiphop song in DDR that is actual hip hop. Same goes for DnB and trance. And not just cheese System F style euro trash "trance". Real trance. Real DnB. Real hiphop. Real rock. Real hardcore (DDR has no hardcore). I could even go as far as saying the happy hardcore is more true to the genre in ITG than in DDR. Simply, ITG pwns DDR in the accuracy department of the genres. You say it "needs more house"? That's not to say ITG doesn't have any house because it does. :::Aaaahhhh, house, the evolution of disco, how good you are to me :::
3) I could see where less experienced players would have a hard time getting through the mods during battle play, therefore not liking it
4) btw, have you played Oasis yet? |

I will say it here for the record now and i bet plenty of people will agree with me. Do You Love Me expert has quite possibly some of the weirdest and unfitting steps EVER. _________________

dukcw0rm wrote: | 1) And there aren't any DDR songs with useless feeling steps? I think not. | Of course there are, but past 5th mix, I don't think I've seen a song that had prominent rhythms and totally ignored them in favor of 1/8th note runs. Most of the songs with really dull steps in DDR are because they have nothing in the music to follow... and I don't have a problem with that. What bothers me are songs that have great musical potential for a RHYTHM GAME that's totally underused. dukcw0rm wrote: | 2) Okay, I'll say that ITG has more ACCURATELY REPRESENTED genres than DDR. There can be no dispute there. Find a hiphop song in DDR that is actual hip hop. | Maybe I'm just dumb, but I'd say Hysteria sounds like a whole hell of a lot of hip-hop I've heard. Am I somehow incorrect in calling it hip-hop?Healing Vision and a few of the Trip MachinesSo Deep, hello?Eh... here I kind of agree with you. Some of the 2MB stuff comes close (La Senorita Virtual, anyone?), but that's about it dukcw0rm wrote: | That's not to say ITG doesn't have any house because it does. | Well yes. It has DJ Party, though that's locked, and Changes, and...
...uh...
...yeah. dukcw0rm wrote: | 3) I could see where less experienced players would have a hard time getting through the mods during battle play, therefore not liking it | Oh, the mods are easy. I read fade in fade out (best mod combo EVER) pretty easily... hell, I read 90% of the mod menu like nothing. I'm working on FCing Hardcore Galore intense, Trance normal and Caddywhompus normal. Don't imply that I don't like mods. > I just don't really like Battle mode because of the random mods rather than scripted, and the fact that it's specifically pitting you against the other player/computer. And the fact that you have to play on left or right. dukcw0rm wrote: | 4) btw, have you played Oasis yet? | Yeah, the hard steps are quite fun. This song had a lot of potential to be one of several songs that totally pissed me off, but I like the steps. I'm still working on getting the expert steps down, though. I can do crazy turns like that, but I get screwed up with the jumps mixed in. _________________

alright...here's my opinion on this game...I like this game because it's something new...as soon as I become more comfortable with my DDR accomplishments, then I think I'll be taking some stabs at ITG...but hey, RVGL may never get an ITG cabinet.... _________________

This is sickening... I'm getting tired of all the whiny "It's not DDR" posts... of course it's not DDR... thats why the banner doesn't say DDR.
For people un willing to try new or other dance game series :
1-if you hate it shut up and stay stuck in the past with DDR Extreme
2-if you haven't played the crap out of DDR EX yet... something is wrong with you (that or you don't have a DDR machine near you like me)
3-You obviously can't handle the difficulty of the newer dance games out now... so just give up and stay with DDR... and get out of the ITG topic!
And thats all I have to say about that... |

Rancidfish wrote: | Maybe I'm just dumb, but I'd say Hysteria sounds like a whole hell of a lot of hip-hop I've heard. Am I somehow incorrect in calling it hip-hop? | Absolutely incorrect. You see, if you're an elitist in several musical genres including hip hop, you'd most definitely know that Hysteria is NOT hip hop and because some people think it is, it's giving a bad name to hip hop Rancidfish wrote: | Healing Vision and a few of the Trip Machines | You're semi right here. Yes, Healing Vision and a couple Trips COULD be called Melodic DnB, they are very misrepresenting. The ratio of DnB to Melodic DnB in real life is probably around 30:1. Again, showing people that all DnB is happy sounding, melody driven music. Which it isn't. Rancidfish wrote: | So Deep, hello? | Yes...So Deep...the one true trance track in all of DDR... Rancidfish wrote: | Eh... here I kind of agree with you. Some of the 2MB stuff comes close (La Senorita Virtual, anyone?), but that's about it | Negatory on the 2MB. Have you heard real hardcore? I will say I've been out of the Hardcore loop for over a year now but last I czeched, real hardcore comes from peeps like Omar Santana, Quaternion, Scrumblehead, Dj Sonik and the like. I never once played La SeƱorita Virtual and thought it even remotely sounded like hardcore. And when I think back, it could be called a few things but hardcore is definitely not one of them. Rancidfish wrote: | I just don't really like Battle mode because of the random mods rather than scripted, and the fact that it's specifically pitting you against the other player/computer. Perhaps you don't like competition? Rancidfish wrote: | Yeah, the hard steps are quite fun. Tight steps and looks sick as all crap when you do get them down smoothly though. |

ITG2 beta machines are out and about. Check the locator at www.itgfreak.com. Hopefully there's one near you. If they release all the mixes this quickly, HOT DANG. We'll have hundreds of songs in no time flat. |

IN THE GROOVE TRULY ROCKS! And this comes from a preson who's played DDR since April 1999, when the DDR 1.5 mix machine came into Cyberzone Arcade in Koreatown, LA. I was about to give out on DDR when ITG came into the picture. Now I'm getting into ITG in severl places like:
Pro Swap Meet, San Bernardino
Family Fun Arcade, Granada Hills
James Games, Upland
Arcade World @ Stonewood Center Mall, Downey
All Amusement Fun Center, Van Nuys
Sherman Oaks Castle Park, Sherman Oaks
Zero Gravity @ Glendale Galleria, Glendale and
Linbrook Bowling Center, Anaheim
Is that a trip or what? Please reply, over! Thanks!

Sorry, but ITG2 is NOT out at any arcades right now, when you look at the machine locator, you are seeing what version of ITG1 they have (beta, 1 final, etc). ITG2 is still in production and there hasn't been any info (as far as I've heard from many places) on when it is being released. _________________

I finally got to play ITG over at Milpitas Golfland, and it's pretty neat. The steps are mostly fun (expert mode makes me cry ;.;) and the songlist is nice. A lot more... well... different then DDR. I don't know exactly how to describe it, i guess more widespread in it's genre is a good way to put it.
Still, i don't think i'd go out of my way just to play ITG, it's just a nice little bonus on 10$ Thursdays. :D _________________

I could be wrong, but in the drop down menu in the locator, doesn't it say Vol1 beta, Vol1 Final and Vol2 beta? |

Yes, if all goes as planned, it should, eventually be released on home console(s). I know PIU is on PC. Not sure if it's on any home consoles though. |

Yeah, I mostly rock the Family Fun Arcade ITG. There's also one in the Glendale Galleria now. If the All Amusement Fun Center in Van Nuys got it, I bet I could convince the one here in Burbank to scoop it as well. Splendiforous. |

Okay people, I've played it in a small arcade in Merced CA, It's freaken sweet but some of the steps are killer. I love the longer songs but the rock needs to go or they need to get licensed songs. also they need to, at least, triple the song count. This really has potential to take over DDRs throne but they need to be smart. I think if they just expand on what they have they willhave the greatest game ever I am itching for a home version. (PS2 if any powers that be are reading this) One last thing
ROM-eo and Juli8 and that folk song are the effing jam! _________________

lol... I dunno, this game looks so amateurish, and I really don't think it will do well at all unless they come up with some really awesome ideas... I mean, the scoring has killer and chill in it...that's so frick gay lol.
Also, stuff like "Rome-e0 and Juli8" ... do they actually think that people think that is a cool way to spell it...this game is a gigantic stereotype of what they think people think is cool...when really is it just really really really retarted.
If they wanted to do something right, and they were the SM guys, they should just make stepmania cabinets where you can plug a USB storage device in and load your own steps... then they wouldn't have legal trouble with Konami, and they would get about 800000 times more money, because that idea, unlike the one they have right now, is a good one. |
would you stop crying over the fact that they use ddr cabinets?!?! WHO CARES you play ddr for the music not because it's a "ddr cabinet" and who cares how they spell the song (it's ROM not rome btw) that there "gay spelling" song happens to be a damn good song, so unless you actually play the game, keep your mouth shut before you go on dissing it. For all you FS'ers out there this game's got some nice songs that are 100% fs'able, only thing i hate now is having land of the rising sun stuck in my head....
LAND HO' that's my rant..
(also any plans on releasing an OST?) _________________

Damn, that was a little out of hand there don't you think?
Oh and I heard from the ITGFreak Forums that they are going to create one if enough interest is put in to one, but the people at ITGFreak have that taken care of. _________________

well they have my interest. I'd honestly like to see konami put out a
konamix 2 then step of the scene for a while. What i liked about in the grooove, is that the songs don't all sound like what Naoki likes to listen to, because honestly he has some weir prefrences.
And the stepmania cabnet with a flash herddrive that you could load your own songs on to is about as legal as what napster was doing a couple years ago. A buisness can not use a song without the artists permission. A person can not hold a recording of a song without the artists permission. The onl time a person can use a song with out the artists permission is for school projects and home enjoyment. technically, downloading the sm files w/ mp3s is illeagal, but so are all the DDR arcade machines. _________________
