I love E-Rotic. I think I have about 40 of their songs on my list to DL, and even though quite a few are a bit raunchy, they're hilarious. (And if you have annoying neighbors upstairs, blare the Nonstop Megamix at 11pm... gets them to shut up ) And a buddy of mine is based out of Germany, so I'm trying to talk him into getting me a few CDs while he's over there (and maybe a Cptn Jack). Right now, though, I have a lot of the songs offered on Machines, and 1, maybe 2, that aren't.
To my knowledge, only 2 songs aren't blatantly about sex: Cat's Eye and Who Wants To Live Forever... And I have my doubts about Gotta Get It Groovin'. It's either dancing, or sex. Hoping for the dancing. And some of the titles make you think of things that are not what the song is about. Hanky Spanky sounds cute and all, but if you pay attention to the lyrics (no rap section, I think) it's about a Sub and his Domme. *shrug* I also heard that Moonlight Shadow is by Missing Heart (or something like that) and it's not the same girl, but a sound alike. Not totally sure, though.
And if your mother comes in while you've got Temple of Love going, just say "No, Mom.. I don't know what they're talking about. I just pay attention to the beat and the steps. It's about SEX?? No, really?!? Goodness!" *innocent look*
One Question: How is T of L blasphemous? There were prostitutes in Aphrodites Temple (Hell, it's been noted that they were even in the temple in Jerusalem) and they were holy prostitutes who had sacred sex (for a price. Major fundraiser for the temples back in the day). They were most often Priestesses, as well. When it was done with the Priest, it was symbolic of the creation of the world, if I remember right, and children borne of these unions were regarded as special and trained for the priesthood, as well.*steps off pagan soapbox* _________________

I checked and E-rotic's GIMME GIMME GIMME isn't the same as Abba's. Completely unrelated songs (other then the name).
As for them covering any other Abba, I have no idea.
Any of you E-rotic experts want to answer that?
EDIT: I just read the article on E-rotic posted earlier in the thread.
Quote: | In 1997, It all changed, as E-Rotic surprised everyone with their 4th Album,
'Thank You For The Music', a tribute to swedish pop legends, Abba. |
So I guess that answers your question. hehe |
Yes, I own that E-rotic "TYFTM" CD and it's very very good! Probably up there with Erasure as the best ABBA covers of all-time.
E-rotic's CDs have always been tough to get in the US. Aside from the one mentioned above, I've got a double CD of their greatest tits... but I had to import that from Japan. Cost me about $30 but for 40 songs of pure pleasure, I think it was worth it! _________________

E-Rotic's an alright group, though a few of their songs on DDR aren't as enjoyable as their other songs....but hey, isn't that always the case with licensed artists?(ex. Captain Jack, SMiLE.dk etc...)
From them, I enjoy...
Cat's Eye
Kiss Me(KCP)
Max Don't Have Sex With Your Ex(Grandale Mix)
Turn Me On
ITHOTN
L.O.V.E.(Sex on the Beach)
And I also like Missing Heart's "Nights In Heaven, Days In Hell" and "Charlene". _________________

True that about Mike Oldfield creating the original version of Moonlight shadow. There have been many covers of that song in several different styles... most recently, Groove Coverage did one along with many remixes. However, my experience has been that Missing Heart's version is by far the most popular of all of the covers, and probably even more than the original (except for Oldfield fans of course;) _________________

Charlene is a great song for sure. Their entire CD "Mystery" is one of the best imo. Amazing that it's the only one they ever released! Another of my fav's from it is Tears in May.... simply haunting that song! _________________

I think I saw a couple posts from people who thought the the singer from E-rotic was the same as from Missing Heart. Actually, that's not quite true...
The singer for most of E-rotic's early stuff is Lyane Leigh. Originally, she was slated to be the singer for Missing Heart and actually recorded a couple of songs, but eventually she left to form her own project called Sex Appeal (their album is very good too). Therefore, Missing Heart found a true beauty named Miss Manu. They re-recorded the previous songs, along with new ones with her, so she is the one you hear singing on the DDR version of Moonlight Shadow.
After Lyane Leigh released that Sex Appeal albem, she got involved with the E-rotic folks and released a lot of great material with them. I think she finally left though around 1999 but E-rotic was able to continue releasing good stuff with several other good female vocalists.
If you want to know more about these projects and other great Eurodance artsists, check out the Eurodance Encyclopedia! It's got everything you';d ever want to know about the genre, including full discographies with pics!

Was it true that Konami couldn't afford anymore money for any more licensed DDR songs?
If so, I wouldn't find it hard to believe if some would say that Test my Best and Cat's Eye (Ventura Mix) are the last E-Rotic songs for DDR.
Also, some started a DDR trivia that goes something like:
Quote: | DDR 5th Mix is the LAST mix that included all-new songs from E-rotic. |

BeForU was easily the heart and soul of DDR, until someone in Konami thought that it's a threat to the current structure (read: Konami's blatant overfunding of IIDX/pop'n). |

Eeh, pretty much. Their revenues areen't that great right now; it's not worth it to them.
I love E-rotic. In my opinion, Dr. Dick, Mambo No. Sex, and Chico Chaco are by far the best E-rotic songs.
Ralph, Don't Make Love by Yourself is *the* dirtiest song I've ever heard, which is saying something considering I'm a Scorpio and listen to a lot of er, "interesting" music. |
