who cares, i mean honestly, play the game you want to play it and dont worry about someone else.

also, everyone has differeent body types, size, shapes, it cant be expected that everyone can do every song (with their feet) or get AAA's on every song....also different shoes may affect score as well as the machine's working conditions....

ddr is for fingers or feet , it is just said to get the full experience to play with feet.

ok i was ranting a bit haha, i gues i'm just tired of everyone thinking that AAA'ing a song is all there is (at least in my area), also i'm really bored of extreme and that's all we have here ;(

ok, anyway enjoy DDR, and rape that bar if you want.

that bar is there for what reason, really lol usually if I have to play ddr, i fall off from the sides hahahha...not the back lol...like i know, well, have seen these guys (on videos on my computer) that use the bar for like legend of max and max 300 and stuff, and they are excellent....they get 3 greats everytime...i mean, its like being a very good light player...but like they use the bar...i think its cool and it takes a buncha weight off of yourself as you fiddle around like a maddog...but...hmmm..lol i fiddle around like a maddog...im not THAT good...i can only do so much on heavy...try like...3-5 songs...is that progress? lolol

I dont use the bar unless im tired, or doing a 10 footer other than bag or sakura. I dont use it most of the time for three reasons

1. im not very heavy so i lose freeze arrows when i use the bar

2. it screws with my mobility
(i.e. on PS heavy i have to let go of the bar during the cross over runs)

3. It's hard to use the bar if your not over six feet tall (IMO)

I also only use it on 9 foot or above

I really dont see the problem with using it, Sure it looks silly on light, but its not really any of our business.

Yeah, as someone who started playing at home on my Xbox, I never use the bar in the arcade. Sometimes, if I lose my balance, I'll touch it to stop me from falling off the pad, but I do the same thing with the monitor;)

The other day, I was waiting in line and this guy started playing. He looked like he'd be a good player, and the first song he picked was Holic - Heavy (8-footer). I thought this would be a good comparison because I had just played that song for the first couple of times the day before and got an A by my second try. Well, b4 the song started, the guy starts to lean on the bar. I thought he was just stretching or something, but he proceded to rape that thing for the entire length of the song! He ended up with an A. Part of me felt good cuz I did that well without even touching the bar. I really wanted to ask him if he could do that without bar-raping, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it... even as a tongue-in-cheek comment.

There was this girl there that day that was excellent though. She was busting out AA's on various 9-footers and bareley failed PSM. I was watching her while the guy was bar raping and she kind of had the pathetic scowl on her face... pretty funnny stuff!

What i say to everyone while i try to teach them:
"The bar is a sign of weakness!"
I try not to use the bar for any song (even the maxes, which i can do). but some people just accept that habit of using the bar. Dont worry, once they the person gets better, he/shell get off the bar eventually(...maybe)

Lol we look stupid either way when we hold the bar or not. the only time us DDR's dont look stupid is when we r freestyling

I think the worse of using the bar is not when people just hold it while playing, the worse is when sometimes I see people using the bar for some freestyle, but using it to spin themselves, or jump, or lift the body using the bar as if it was an olympic vault. frust.gif It may be visually impressive but it damages the equipment a lot. It would be better (in my opinion) if the bar was just skipped from every dance game - like in the D-Tech 3DDX.

Off-topic: For the ones who doesn´t know, the 3DDX is a dance game with 4 pads in diagonal directions and a sensor that capts your arms movements in 4 directions up right, left, down

Bar raping doesn't bother me too much, unless you learn with it. In my opinion, i think that it's better to learn without it, and only use it as you work your way up. I started playind ddr at home on my ps2 for a long time before i came to the arcade, and when i did, the bar actually screwed me up when i would try to use it. I think that is the best way to learn, just like i did (not playing at my house, just the fact of not using the bar). Anyways, i will use it from time to time if i'm sight-reading a really fast song, or if i am attempting to do a 10-footer since I can't pass any of those yet. But yeah, it does get annoying seeing people use the bar for every freakin' song.

Hmm well I think people who don't have DDR at home or only play at arcade's tend to use the bar on more easier songs...I played at arcades for about a month or so before i got DDR MAX 2 and i used the bar sometimes for songs such as Dam Dariram or Holic, but I don't personally see a problem with people using the bar, everyone plays their own way, whatever it takes for them to do their best

This question hit me a while ago, and it's really bothering me...
When you hold the bar, do you put your hands so that your thumbs are pointing away or towards the machine?
just curious E19.gif

1: Haha; I actually HAVE to use the bar BECAUSE I'm so light, to put extra pressure because the sensors are kinda whack. But I plan on asking them if I can fix the sensors myself.

2: Watch DjStunna's legend road video.

3: I'm pretty sure I'm less than six feet tall, and it's relatively easy for me... but it could be my long arms.

Although I do use the bar half the time, I try not to use it. The only reason I have to is because I'm in the process of getting out of a physical slump. erm.gif

And mtwieg: I could go either way, but I hold with my thumbs towards the machine when I don't think about it.

thumbs toward is strictly for balance, thumbs away can help my speed and mobility, because i messed with this already and this is what i found.

I would say no, but that is because I don't use the bar.

One day I was watching this guy bar rape, but he was only using one hand. So I figured,

2 hands = Bar Rape
1 hand = Sexual Harassment

laugh.gif I'm an idiot, I know.

I learned how to play on a PS2 so I don't usually bar rape, but for 10's and Cartoon Heroes, I do. I can do Bag and Sakura without it, but any other 10, I use the bar.

I live in a suburb of Chicago and I've honestly never met anyone around here that looks down on the bar.

It does make it easier, but there is a technique for it. You can't put all of your weight on it, because then you can't pivot. I can do Survivor from start to finish with the bar, it just takes practice.

It does conserve stamina and it does make quick jumps easier (I.E. Maxx or LOM)

Personally, I don't really give a damn...when I use the bar, I rape the Hell out of it, and I don't really think that's a problem...it's still the same Japanese pop music.

please don't post in all caps.

depending on the song, it can be easier, but usually the bar just makes it harder.
