|
|
Ok, to prevent newbs and other DDR players from making one whole thread just to ask what one word or abbreviation means, I am just going to make a thread where they can go. if i have missed some, feel free to post them. and make sure they are used a lot, dont just take a song and abbreviate it. ex: end of the century= EOTC. dont do that.
HV:AM Healing vision: angelic mix
CSFIL:SM cant stop falling in love (speed mix)
SDG: single digit great- getting all perfects and a single digit amount of greats.
Black flag - Getting all Perfects and one Great on a song
Blue flag - Getting all Perfects and one Good on a song
Pink (purple) flag - Getting all Perfects and one Boo on a song
Red flag - Getting all Perfects and one Miss on a song
Green flag - Getting all Perfects on a song, but breaking one freeze
arrow, therefore (On Extreme) not allowing you to AAA it.
True Black flag - Getting all Perfects until you get one Great on the
last step of the song
White flag - Getting a Great on the first step of a song, then getting
all the rest of the steps Perfect.
Noncombo steps - Goods, Boos, and Misses are all considered noncombo
steps, because they will stop your Combo from growing (duh).
Oni-pass - Getting less than 4 noncombo steps on a song, allowing you
to pass that song in Oni.
Bar Hugger - One who refuses to let go of the bar and puts all their
weight on the bar behind them throughout the whole song. Also known as
'bar whore' and 'bar raper'.
Catastrophic ('Cata' for short) - You'll occasionally hear players
talking about they passed, FCed, or AAed a cata. In older mixes of DDR,
there were names for all the difficulty ratings. 9 footers (the hardest
in the game until DDRMAX brought MAX300, the first 10 footer) were
called Catastrophic. Some others were Exorbitant (8 feet) and Paramount
(7 feet).
LFO - Left Foot Only. Playing a song with only your left foot.
RFO - Right Foot Only. Playing a song with only your right foot.
Basic, Trick, Maniac - In older mixes of DDR (notably 3rd, 4th, and
5th) the difficulties were Basic (Light), Trick (Standard), and Maniac
(Heavy). On USA mix, there were different difficulties altogether:
Standard (Light), Difficult (Standard), and Expert (Heavy). On some
machines, Trick is also known as Another. On 3rd mix, to play Maniac,
you had to unlock SSR mode, which would allow play on Maniac only.
S4R - A common set of modifiers that people use, uses Sudden, Shuffle,
and Flat together.
S6R - Using Shuffle, Sudden, Solo, and a speed modifier together when
playing a song.
6 option - Also known as 6-mod, this is the practice of combining 6
different modifiers together on one song. Devil0n's personal favorite,
and a good example: 1.5 Boost Hidden Shuffle Flat Reverse.
FC- full combo-means u combo the whole song.
PSMO- paranoia survivor max oni
PSM- paranoia survivor max (any other difficulty)
NG: no good- u break a freeze
O.K.!- u hold the freeze down for the duration of the freeze.
footer- the term used to rate songs for difficulty
mods- short for modifiers-modifications used to modify songs. most common ones used are speed mods, speeds up the song, spreading the arrows apart, therefore making the song easier to read.
EOTC-end of the century
EE-exotic ethnic
R&P- rhythm and police
put some more on if i missed any! _________________

not for song abbreviations, and for some flags, like true black. plus they explain it better.
plus, most newbs, dont go to the dictionary, they make a thread. with this theyll see it at the top and will hopefully stop making those threads _________________

A lot of these definitions are from the DDRFreak Dictionary though, or exactly/quite similar. _________________

I never knew what some of the flags were, or what FC was. Thanks!
But, you could add LoM (legend of max) to the list. And abbreviations for other Bemani games, like BM, GF, DM, etc. |

Well, song abberviations are just common sense. "LOM = Legend of Max, who knew?" |

EOTC = I see this one often enough to list it. End of the Century
PSMO = Paranoia Survivior Max Oni
That's all I can think of right now. _________________

If this isn't strictly DDR terminology, I have a question. What the hell is 1337? _________________

Leet-speek, also known as hacker-talk.
I think it started when people were talking about hacking in chat rooms, but they used normal typing techniques. This made it easy for chats to censor certain words, so hackers started using different methods of typing, like using numbers in place of certain letters (3's for e's, 7's for t's). Eventually, it became a fad to type like that. Now it's actually become a fad to mock it. _________________

This thread is great. IMO, it should be moved to site feedback and be changed to "Making the DDRFreak Dictionary better" and then maybe have more things pointing to the dictionary. _________________
